To be fair, the Marines aren't much better. >all the colonists have vanished fighting against this alien species that uses humans as incubation hosts >their beacons show up clustered in a basement >clearly they are waiting to be rescued, let's send a dozen light infantry (which is basically all our forces) into an area of sharp corners and poor visibility with no evacuation plan if things go sideways
Why are you ignoring that the company kept them in the dark about the aliens? They didnt believe Ripley at all. They were sent in as an experiment, they were never going to succeed at the mission.
Stop making up headcanon. The company didn't know any more than they did and Ripley told them all she knew. They would have stomped the xenos if the nest hadn't been right next to the cooling units. Gorman fricked it up by taking away their guns and continuing to send them in instead of pulling out and reassessing.
This and the lapse in operational security, where after the marines retreat from the processor, the dropship crashed because it’s‘ crew were leaving the fricking ramp open when parking.
>Gorman fricked it up by taking away their guns
He really should have told them WHY they couldn't shoot. I mean sure, that's his prerogative, but from a practical standpoint "hey guys, careful you don't pop a coolant line and nuke the colony (not from orbit)" is a lot more likely to be followed than "hey guys go into the spooky basement and no fair defending yourselves :)". Also, Burke definitely didn't share everything with the marines since he was only thinking about the money of capturing a xeno. I think it's also implied he didn't want the best of the best marines, just a random cannon fodder platoon. It's repeatedly made clear they think Ripley is nuts and believe aliens are fake and gay.

As much as I love apone a lot of blame lies with him. He should have fallen back and reassessed the situation in light of being told not to use anything but flamethrowers. At that point they knew the aliens were real and a credible threat.

>He really should have told them WHY they couldn't shoot.
This was really one of those movie moments where Character A could easily solve the situation with a brief one or two sentence explanation to Character B, but they don't, because it is a plot point. I guess the excuse Cameron can use is that Gorman was inexperienced and was in panic mode.

lol
The marines themselves weren't incompetent, but their commander was (that was a pretty clear point they made in the movie, he had only been on two missions before, both of them in virtual reality).
>The marines themselves weren't incompetent, but their commander was
No he wasn't. He gave clear orders and even ordered a tactical retreat using the flamethrowers as suppressive fire. The jarheads didn't follow orders cause they were freaking out and got killed as a result. Rewatch the scene.
He took away their guns and continued the entry, which was a stupid decision. Then all orders went through Apone and Apone gets taken out early, so the marines have no leadership and can't even hear Gorman. Gorman then continues to say orders and do nothing else until Ripley has to grab him and yell that "they're cut off!" before taking it into her own hands to drive the apc to rescue them.
Gorman panicked and his orders were clearly not heard/acknowledged. He should have realized the breakdown of communications instead of panikcing and figured out another way to save his squad
Aliens
It was a fun bit of SF.
I might watch it again tonight.
Comfy. Was key teenage viewing in the 90s for me
Couldn't give a shit about the pretentious wank that came later
>Do you prefer the beginning or end of a story?
Well, I like the whole story, anon. A beginning without an end is a cliffhanger. And an ending without a beginning can be confusing.
Aliens. In my opinion, it does everything that Alien does, better than Alien, and then some. I find it much scarier than Alien, more exciting, better shot, better special effects (an understatement, really. the special effects in Aliens are un-fricking-believable), has more memorable characters, is just a smarter, better film in general. That's not to say that Alien is bad, it's not at all, but Aliens blows it out of the water and is easily one of the best movies ever made.
Side note. Irl the girl who played Newt became an elementary grade school teacher somewhere in California and never acted in another movie again. She and S. Weaver are still in contact with each other.
No.
Alien is good but amateurish compared to Aliens. Scott was a TV commercial director and the only ting that saved Alien was the British crew that knew what they were doing and saved Ridley's ass.
Yeah I liked that. Just wish they did more with it. Like if we got to see more rooms in the ship with crazier stuff that lead to more mystery and questions. ... before whats his name fricked it up with Prometheus and bob.
Alien is a nearly perfect film. Aliens is a Jim Cameron joint with shrill child acting. I still like it, but the first is just fantastic through and through.
>ah yes out of the million movies out there let me make a thread about the one with an underage nude scene and use that girl for the thread pic
Why do you guys participate in obvious pedo dog whistle threads
Aliens
Prometheus
Based-
God I want her to step on my balls until the pop like tadpoles

I prefer Alien. I like my slow Hitchwienerian buildups. Aliens is cool too, but it's a totally different kind of mood. Both are essential.

Well, I like the whole story, anon. A beginning without an end is a cliffhanger. And an ending without a beginning can be confusing.
>movie looking good
>a kid appears
Hell yeah isn't it great.
Alien should have ended with Ripley, the alien, the cat and the leftover of the android floating away in the infinite space in complete silence .

Both are very different but both are great.
I can totally understand why an autistic child-like weeb gay like yourself would think that. See:
That's nice. Go back to rebbit.
Japs make everything better.
A stellar post
I'm always impressed by Alien
I love the practical effects
The fact those poor actors were smothered in real offal for multiple takes during the "birth" and getting sick just makes my fricking day
Fricking effects icon up there with The Thing
ALien was kino, saw 3 times. Never even saw Aliens second time.
Both, and Fincher kino Alien 3 too.
>roight, 'tis Chewsday, innit?
He cute.
Alien is a classic kino.
Aliens is a kids film.
can't wait for the next Alien film
It's going to be woke nonsense
Prometheus.
Covenant
Aliens3

Wholesome. Siggy is a class act.
You just know
would btw

Bro she's like an 8
Aliens is a more rewatchable film. I found Alien boring nowadays.
Correct
No.
Alien is good but amateurish compared to Aliens. Scott was a TV commercial director and the only ting that saved Alien was the British crew that knew what they were doing and saved Ridley's ass.
Cameron knocked it out of the park with Aliens.
Alien. Aliens feels too much like an action movie
Alien is the only one.
Alien > Alien Isolation > Aliens > Prometheus > Alien Covenant > Alien vs Predator > Alien 3 > Alien Resurrection > Aliens vs Predator Requiem
They're coming to my house for their daily insemination.
Aliens but, I feel it needed a scene in the derelict ship or something.
The directors cut had extra scenes of Newt's family discovering the alien wreckage but nothing visually tying into Alien 1 (as I recall)
Yeah I liked that. Just wish they did more with it. Like if we got to see more rooms in the ship with crazier stuff that lead to more mystery and questions. ... before whats his name fricked it up with Prometheus and bob.
Bob?
Alien by far
like, not even close
Alien was a bit slow
>zoomerbrain can't handle proper storytelling
okay
Alien.
Far superior cinematic experience.
Alien is a nearly perfect film. Aliens is a Jim Cameron joint with shrill child acting. I still like it, but the first is just fantastic through and through.
Depends what kind of mood I'm in.
Both are amazing. Why do i feel like old man that feels nothing good is made anymore? i'm not even 40 yet.
