I really don't. There are some older things I would be potentially interested in (I don't even think about current woke crap) but I still mostly think about how much time it would take me to watch them and I wonder whether this time could be spent better.
Should I just leave it at the moment and do other things instead.

I've seen a few this year, and I don't regret watching them.

The last show I watched was The Last of Us. I watch shows even less than movies.

Forever. I'll always love video games. Pic related specifically, but I dabble in phone games.
and I want to say that if you don't enjoy any of these things, you should go do something else. I'm guessing you don't have anything to do if you're posting on Cinemaphile, but posting on Cinemaphile is also doing something. That means there's at least one thing you enjoy.
>I'm guessing you don't have anything to do
I have a lot, I'm just not doing it.
>That means there's at least one thing you enjoy.
I like posting here for threads like this.

Disgusting.
my dad sits for ages playing some weird game called Toy Blast on his phone. He's been doing it for years now, I bet he has hundreds if not thousands of hours on it. It's pretty funny considering his childhood was sitting all day on the Atari 2600 and C64.
>my dad sits for ages playing some weird game called Toy Blast on his phone
I've seen old people playing phone games in public, but I didn't mean those phone games. I meant gachas (the RPGs specifically), because I played those types of games all my life. I think it's cool being able to play them on your phone.
old homie is nearly 56 now. just makes me kek when I go over for dinner and he's zoned in on what looks like a kid's game. I'm 29 now and whilst I still play video games, I end up playing on moron difficulty so I can speedrun them.
follow your heart
I feel that for series, but films are still enjoyable.
>and I wonder whether this time could be spent better.
The question is
>WILL IT BE SPENT BETTER?
or will you just waste your time on something else instead? Once, I've stopped playing video games for a year, and instead of doing something I've just started watching series for the first time in my life.
Also, if you feel bad about wasting time, just go for classics. Even if you don't enjoy them, you can always say that you've watched them if somebody ever asks you they never do
Same.
>or will you just waste your time on something else instead
That's my biggest problem. Pretty much stopped watching series/gaming but I waste more time on the Internet instead.
>That's my biggest problem. Pretty much stopped watching series/gaming but I waste more time on the Internet instead.
Where's the problem, exactly? It kind of sounds like you have a problem with modern society, and the truth is everyone does. There's nothing to do, and so people do stuff to pass the time. The trick is to find something you enjoy. It's very hard, but I'm sure you have to time to search. It's like me installing 50 different phone games to find one I like.
>It kind of sounds like you have a problem with modern society
Well, duh. I would take a Tedpill but I don't have money to do so.
>There's nothing to do
There are thousands of things, I just lack the motivation or money.
>There are thousands of things, I just lack the motivation or money.
So... you're like everyone else. I do the same thing every day because I'm poor. If you don't like your situation then attempt to change it, or you can accept it like everyone else has.
I get lucky sometimes. Most things are bad, it's always been that way.
>Most things are bad, it's always been that way.
How old are you? If you're a Millennial, then you'll know things weren't always bad. In the past, most things were good. It's just female and non-white influence that ruins modern media.
moronic take. I've been watching movies for 40 years and it's always been 90% trend-chasing shit. You're not special enough to witness the fall of western media, sorry.
I feel like every time I watch a movie I just grit my teeth and go, "that was good, I guess..." It's been a long time since I watched something that truly sparked any passion in me.
>I feel like every time I watch a movie I just grit my teeth and go, "that was good, I guess..."
Why don't you just stop watching and wait for something you think looks good; That's what I do.
Try these anon, maybe you'll feel something. These aren't usual recs nor obvious picks, but still they are some of my favourites.
>Django (the original)
>The Deluge (1974)
>Runaway Train
>I'm a Cyborg, But That's OK
movies experientially just come and go. there's no novelty factor with them. that's why there's hardly anything to say about them.
I haven't felt anything post-LOTR
Start reading and writing. It's funny that random people on this board can shitpost better stories than Hollywood.
You're just jaded with media. Pick up a hobby or become an alcoholic to fill the emptiness inside
I haven't been able to muster the motivation to watch a film or show in perhaps six months. Last few things I watched I didn't enjoy, including rewatches of films I like. These days I'm mostly just reading instead. Finished One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest two days ago (read it, it's fantastic) and started Sometimes a Great Notion right after, which is well written but I'm several hours in and I can't seem to get into it.
While I'm here anyone wanna rec me some books that films are based on that are particularly decent? I figured Cuckoo's Nest would be better than the film as that's usually the case but it really exceeded my expectations.
Do you know there's a board for books called Cinemaphile? If your interest is reading then you should go there.
Cinemaphile has better banter. Also, ironically, better recs for just about everything than dedicated boards.
>Cinemaphile has better banter
Is that right? It must be good, if you're sharing a thread with a guy who spends all day filtering threads. I'm the banter master.
Anyway, I don't read, so I can't help you. I remember reading a little, and then I came back to Cinemaphile to discuss what I read and the thread had died.
I also picked up reading more recently in the past year and loved Cuckoo's nest. 1984 is another classic that I really got into. hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy is a fun read but it's pretty silly/comedic.
Hellraisers is the last book I read. I normally stick to fiction but this one's about some of the iconic alkie actors like Oliver Reed and Peter O'Toole. Lots of funny anecdotes in it and looks at some of the darker sides of their lives in and out of showbiz. I'd not read anything for ages prior but it looked good because it combines some of my favourite things: alcohol, debauchery, films and the actors themselves.
It's not getting old or depression: media, at least the popular big bugdet one, has gotten worse.
Every time I watch older movies I feel something: the actors are well cast and charismatic and have great chemistry with each other. Everything from the dialogue to the pacing to the cinematography feels deliberate and well crafted. SFX are actually practical and not CGI. Film gives the movie a soulful look.
New movies even if I might enjoy them I forget about them instantly. The actors feel randomly picked and not to fit the role. They just do their acting but it doesn't feel organic because they have no charisma and chemistry. The cinematography is by the numbers and only concerned with showing you what's going on and seemingly no more purpose beyond that. Digital just looks sterile.
Yeah I do, but I usually always have a couple of drinks before partaking in them.
Yeah, and it's a great example because I have a feeling lots of people will kneejerk hate it because of the name attached. I just started watching Joss Whedon's Firefly for the first time and it's great. He puts a fresh spin on concepts that feel like they should come across as mashed together or generic and makes them feel genuine.
>I just started watching Joss Whedon's Firefly for the first time and it's great
It is, but it's an example of the past being good. Also, there's only one season. Firefly fans were lucky enough to get a movie.
I loved The Orville as a more recent example, which is what made me watch Firefly. I'm trying to decide what 00's sci-fi thing to watch next. Maybe Battlestar.
>I'm trying to decide what 00's sci-fi thing to watch next
Farscape all day, bbe boy.
I haven't been able to enjoy video games in 15 years or so. The only ones that I somewhat like are old arcade style games and shit like solitaire now. Doom II used to be so fun.
>I haven't been able to enjoy video games in 15 years or so
The last video game I enjoyed was Baldur's Gate 3, because I've always loved RPGs. I did say it would probably be the last new game I played, so we're the same now.
You should try phone games, because you don't have to play them for long. I think people grow out of video games because they take too much time.
>because they take too much time
this
I have 125 hours in Baldur's Gate 3, for example. Think about how many movies that is. A lot. If I watch like 5 movies in a year, that's like 10 hours versus 125. They're kind of a big commitment, and that's why I suggest games you can play on your phone, because they're designed to be played for brief periods. It's like watching a Youtube video instead of a movie.
>It's like watching a Youtube video instead of a movie
Lol, I probably spend 10 times more hours on YT than on movies.
That says more about the quality of movies. Youtube has videos on anything you want, and that's why it replaced TV.
>Hi, I'm Depressed, Are You Guys Depressed Too?
The Thread
I dont "Genuinely" enjoy anything. once I hit 23 just stopped getting excited about anything like a switch was turned off in my head.
Okay, but you used to enjoy things, right? I think you will again one day, when we're done being in this horrible place.
don't waste this crucial opportunity for growth, lean into that uncomfortableness and drive away from escapism. most threads like these are dopamine deprived deadenders trying to supplant life with media and being bummed out it stops working post early 20s. You are on a different path and the door is already open
What are you doing on this board if you're anti-escapism? Let's hear your garbage excuse. I'll be here filtering threads full of people of your IQ level while you give the reason. I suspect that's why you posted here.
and for gods sake don't just substitute them with gaming, at the least turn to books if you must but seek outward expression, socialization and activity
I do enjoy media and the discussion elsewhere is too tepid and unrelatable npc dross
>I do enjoy media
So you enjoy media but nobody else should? I knew it was going to be fricking stupid. Every thread on this board is unrelatable NPC dross. Now frick off or reply after the hide while I go look at the five threads on the board because I fricking manually removed everything else.
>So you enjoy media but nobody else should?
is that what you took from OPs lament?
I would enjoy those things if there was anything worth fricking enjoying, but still I soldier on and keep consooming in the hope of finding media that still gets me excited
Yeah all the time
I've been watching this series lately and it's just been pure joy from start to finish
Also been watching the original All Creatures Great and Small television adaptation and it's extremely interesting and I love the character dynamics
Recently I watched Pearl and I was smiling and crying the entire way through
I rewatched Casino Royale for the first time in a decade and damn is that film fricking good
But what other things would you do?
Yeah, exactly. This is the important part. There is nothing else, unless you're like wealthy or something. By wealthy I mean middle class or better, because I'm not even middle class. I go to the city and I see happy people chatting in bars, restaurants, hanging out and shopping.
I can't afford to do any of that, so it's film, tv and vidya.
>bars, restaurants, hanging out and shopping
Yeah but that stuff is only fun if you're with fun people. I have friends but they suck and rarely want to go out.
>that stuff is only fun if you're with fun people
I used to be a fun person with fun people. Try being the fun person and saying you guys should all go do something. Think about what Cinemaphile is; Cinemaphile is just like sitting a bar with your friends. I used to do stuff like that, and it's a nice change of pace from being at home. Why can't you be the one who makes everyone go do something?
I was always dragged places, but that means someone always brought up the idea. You just have to be that person, or no one is.
I used to study and have friends. Why can't you say to your friend
>we should go do something
and if they say
>i don't want to
you can be like
>but i want to. it'll be fun.
If they're really your friends then they'll be able to convince you, like my friends convinced me. How could someone who isn't a normalgay end up in clubs? It happened to me, because fun people (who I liked) wanted to do those things. Try to convince one person and the rest will probably follow.
sometimes im depressed
sometimes im not
but i dont whine about it like a weepy homosexual
its simply a fact of life
You aren't depressed then moron
i quit heroin cold turkey. i know more about despair than you ever will and im telling you that youre being a weepy homosexual
all still things I enjoy in the right dosage but I still like to get out whether that's just going for food or a beer with someone to break things up. I like to go shooting as well, I'll just go sit at the range on my own with a flask of tea for a few hours. It's pretty easy normally to find ways to occupy myself but if all you do is sit around playing vidya and watching TV then I'd understand getting bored of them. I fricked my foot up about a month ago and haven't been able to walk properly since and sitting inside almost 24/7 has resulted in me necking a box of wine most nights to fast forward the boredom.
>I fricked my foot up about a month ago and haven't been able to walk properly since and sitting inside almost 24/7 has resulted in me necking a box of wine most nights to fast forward the boredom.
It's weird how boredom is actually something you feel, if you spend enough time inside. I've spent most of my life inside, so I know all about it. Everyone deals with it in different ways. I used to drink, but I don't like the feeling of being drunk, and so I smoke cigarettes. I'm not sure why, but it actually helps.
you are literally me
sometimes ill just be chain smoking and 20 minutes will go by without me really even feeling it. i do wish i could quit tho, because it does ultimately make me feel like shit
>sometimes ill just be chain smoking and 20 minutes will go by without me really even feeling it
It does make you feel like shit, but only if you smoke too much. If you feel like shit then just stop. I have nicotine gum in arms reach if I don't want to smoke any more.
I think tobacco just chills you out, to the point where you can just sit and think. It's really useful in that regard. My whole life has been waiting for it to be over, so I need it.
i cant do moderation. im an all or nothing kind of guy. for the past year ive just cycling back and forth between smoking, trying to quit for like a week, finally feeling better because i stopped smoking, so then ill smoke again to celebrate. its moronic but i cant help myself. if i could go back i never wouldve tried it in the first place
>if i could go back i never wouldve tried it in the first place
Naw, I regret nothing. I took up smoking because my friends did it. It reminds me of the good times in my life. Being at a casino with my mates and having a cigarette in the smoking area; The beautiful city scenery at night.
I'll say again that if you want to stop, you need the gum. I have nicorette that I can chew if I don't want to smoke. It's really good.
does the gum give you acid reflux at all? i tried switching to zyns but they started fricking up my gums and i was burping up acid constantly, so i had to stop
>does the gum give you acid reflux at all?
Not me, but you should try it and see how you feel. You get like 50% the feeling of a cigarette with the extra strength stuff. Really easy to quit smoking if you have it.
eh ill probably try it out i guess. i really do like smoking tho...
Here's my workstation. I promise you the gum helps if you want to quit smoking.
Oh great, it's upside down.
Feeling lonely, are we, Gadonposter? It makes sense that you showed up in the Depression general. It's a shame that you're like the worst person to talk to on the board.
By the way, I replied 14 minutes after he posted and got no reply. That means he posted and then left the thread. I'm done with Gadonposter. I'm going to filter every single post he ever makes. He thinks he's the most autistic anon on Cinemaphile, but he's not.
She looks like a fricking rat
you look like a doo doo xDD
Do you think so? I think she's israeli, but he denies it. It would explain why she gets roles despite having no talent.
I just saw Wonka and enjoyed it. It was like a slightly worse Paddington
No but I like watching whatever mediocre goyslop with my mom because I like spending time with her and that's what she likes
I feel like I don't create nostalgia anymore. Like anything that happened 5 years ago, that I watched or played, I don't feel any urge to look at again. It all feels so recent. Although I think this is normal? Point is, I feel frick all. Sometimes when I drink I might feel a buzz and enjoy shooting the shit, but that doesn't mean anything. Most times I watch stuff these days I really have to do so in a checklist kind of way, like going through chores. I have to force myself to watch a movie even though I enjoy them in retrospect.
If I watch a movie I haven't seen or completed a vidya I haven't done before I actually feel a pathetic, minuscule notion that I did something productive instead of wasting my day on my phone or on the chan or YouTube all day. That's how bad it is. I don't even have that feeling you do that I should be doing better things instead, these ARE the better things. I tried going to gym and learning a language, but it doesn't do frick and never sticks. I've tried forcing it but it doesn't help. Gay ass constant apathy. It's actually my birthday today and I fricking forgot. Thanks for reading my blog anons.
I enjoy everything starring beloved and acclaimed Canadian actress Sarah Gadon.
I love Sarah Gadon
