Do you still genuinely enjoy movies, series, vidya?

I really don't. There are some older things I would be potentially interested in (I don't even think about current woke crap) but I still mostly think about how much time it would take me to watch them and I wonder whether this time could be spent better.
Should I just leave it at the moment and do other things instead.

and I want to say that if you don't enjoy any of these things, you should go do something else. I'm guessing you don't have anything to do if you're posting on Cinemaphile, but posting on Cinemaphile is also doing something. That means there's at least one thing you enjoy.

my dad sits for ages playing some weird game called Toy Blast on his phone. He's been doing it for years now, I bet he has hundreds if not thousands of hours on it. It's pretty funny considering his childhood was sitting all day on the Atari 2600 and C64.

I've seen old people playing phone games in public, but I didn't mean those phone games. I meant gachas (the RPGs specifically), because I played those types of games all my life. I think it's cool being able to play them on your phone.

or will you just waste your time on something else instead? Once, I've stopped playing video games for a year, and instead of doing something I've just started watching series for the first time in my life.
Also, if you feel bad about wasting time, just go for classics. Even if you don't enjoy them, you can always say that you've watched them if somebody ever asks you they never do

Where's the problem, exactly? It kind of sounds like you have a problem with modern society, and the truth is everyone does. There's nothing to do, and so people do stuff to pass the time. The trick is to find something you enjoy. It's very hard, but I'm sure you have to time to search. It's like me installing 50 different phone games to find one I like.

I haven't been able to muster the motivation to watch a film or show in perhaps six months. Last few things I watched I didn't enjoy, including rewatches of films I like. These days I'm mostly just reading instead. Finished One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest two days ago (read it, it's fantastic) and started Sometimes a Great Notion right after, which is well written but I'm several hours in and I can't seem to get into it.

While I'm here anyone wanna rec me some books that films are based on that are particularly decent? I figured Cuckoo's Nest would be better than the film as that's usually the case but it really exceeded my expectations.

Hellraisers is the last book I read. I normally stick to fiction but this one's about some of the iconic alkie actors like Oliver Reed and Peter O'Toole. Lots of funny anecdotes in it and looks at some of the darker sides of their lives in and out of showbiz. I'd not read anything for ages prior but it looked good because it combines some of my favourite things: alcohol, debauchery, films and the actors themselves.

  10. 4 months ago

It's not getting old or depression: media, at least the popular big bugdet one, has gotten worse.

Every time I watch older movies I feel something: the actors are well cast and charismatic and have great chemistry with each other. Everything from the dialogue to the pacing to the cinematography feels deliberate and well crafted. SFX are actually practical and not CGI. Film gives the movie a soulful look.

New movies even if I might enjoy them I forget about them instantly. The actors feel randomly picked and not to fit the role. They just do their acting but it doesn't feel organic because they have no charisma and chemistry. The cinematography is by the numbers and only concerned with showing you what's going on and seemingly no more purpose beyond that. Digital just looks sterile.

Yeah, and it's a great example because I have a feeling lots of people will kneejerk hate it because of the name attached. >I haven't been able to enjoy video games in 15 years or so
The last video game I enjoyed was Baldur's Gate 3, because I've always loved RPGs. I did say it would probably be the last new game I played, so we're the same now.
You should try phone games, because you don't have to play them for long. I think people grow out of video games because they take too much time.

I have 125 hours in Baldur's Gate 3, for example. Think about how many movies that is. A lot. If I watch like 5 movies in a year, that's like 10 hours versus 125. They're kind of a big commitment, and that's why I suggest games you can play on your phone, because they're designed to be played for brief periods. It's like watching a Youtube video instead of a movie.

Think about what Cinemaphile is; Cinemaphile is just like sitting a bar with your friends. I used to do stuff like that, and it's a nice change of pace from being at home. Why can't you be the one who makes everyone go do something?
I was always dragged places, but that means someone always brought up the idea. You just have to be that person, or no one is.

I like to go shooting as well, I'll just go sit at the range on my own with a flask of tea for a few hours. It's pretty easy normally to find ways to occupy myself but if all you do is sit around playing vidya and watching TV then I'd understand getting bored of them. I fricked my foot up about a month ago and haven't been able to walk properly since and sitting inside almost 24/7 has resulted in me necking a box of wine most nights to fast forward the boredom.

It's weird how boredom is actually something you feel, if you spend enough time inside. I've spent most of my life inside, so I know all about it. Everyone deals with it in different ways. I used to drink, but I don't like the feeling of being drunk, and so I smoke cigarettes. I'm not sure why, but it actually helps.

It does make you feel like shit, but only if you smoke too much. If you feel like shit then just stop. I have nicotine gum in arms reach if I don't want to smoke any more.
I think tobacco just chills you out, to the point where you can just sit and think. It's really useful in that regard. My whole life has been waiting for it to be over, so I need it.

I'll say again that if you want to stop, you need the gum. I have nicorette that I can chew if I don't want to smoke. It's really good.

I feel like I don't create nostalgia anymore. Like anything that happened 5 years ago, that I watched or played, I don't feel any urge to look at again. It all feels so recent. Although I think this is normal? Point is, I feel frick all. Sometimes when I drink I might feel a buzz and enjoy shooting the shit, but that doesn't mean anything. Most times I watch stuff these days I really have to do so in a checklist kind of way, like going through chores. I have to force myself to watch a movie even though I enjoy them in retrospect.

If I watch a movie I haven't seen or completed a vidya I haven't done before I actually feel a pathetic, minuscule notion that I did something productive instead of wasting my day on my phone or on the chan or YouTube all day. That's how bad it is. I don't even have that feeling you do that I should be doing better things instead, these ARE the better things. I tried going to gym and learning a language, but it doesn't do frick and never sticks. I've tried forcing it but it doesn't help. Gay ass constant apathy. It's actually my birthday today and I fricking forgot. Thanks for reading my blog anons.
