but it's equally possible there'll be a throwaway line explaining why everyone kept the letters unread for no reason at all, and we'll get treated to montages of a large number of chracters reading while Sadie does a classic mediocre Duffer monologue in voiceover, either this or next season.
the best option would be for Max to realize she's being a depressed drama queen and have actual character development where she starts telling people what she thinks for once but who knows. I can't believe I was actually invested in Lucas-Max after the snow ball, it's very likely it's going to come to nothing in particular whether she lives or not.
the letter-reading montage concept is so saccharine and tearjerky that they might actually do it, but I hope I'm wrong.

the idea of Joyce getting back from Russia only to be told that Will is dead would definitely be intense, but it feels too much for this show. more likely the human season 1/2 macguffin that is Will will continue to waste screentime despite contributing nothing in particular even in-universe.
I think they will kill off Steve just because he and Nancy are getting to close. It would be a lot more convenient and easy to just kill the romance rival instead of writing a plausible explanation for why they don't get together in the end

at first she was depressed, but when she learned she was in danger, we can see appearing disinterested is really her personality. we can't really infer her feelings because she's a timid person and shuns off people if they get too close.

the thing that annoys me about the show is that they could really do anything if they justified it properly. instead we generally get a couple of really cute and effective catchup episodes about teen problems at the start of a season, but they then don't pay off because the Duffers can't combine beating demons with character development to save their lives.
I'm still amazed how little actually changed about Max's character from her escaping Vecna. it barely even worked as a lesson about the power of friendship.

the thing that annoys me about the show is that they could really do anything if they justified it properly. instead we generally get a couple of really cute and effective catchup episodes about teen problems at the start of a season, but they then don't pay off because the Duffers can't combine beating demons with character development to save their lives.
