I'm getting really tired of black people.
and that is exactly what the ones pulling the strings are hoping for. though in this case, I think not. otherwise they would have made her eyes spaced really far apart or something.
pretty sure it's just one obsessive who has been told pizza = fat and cannot get past a character eating pizza and not being fat. he needs her to be fat so his addled brain can rest.
There were fat Daria threads anyway, but eventually someone "transcribed" some quote from some episode of the Nostalgia Critic where he complains that they don't have the bodies of girls that eat pizza every day. It's not really important whether or not he ever actually said that, and certainly isn't worth watching his videos to confirm or deny it; in either case, it's a fun ritualpost you can throw into a thread to get tourists to argue with a shitpost.
NC is such an ignorant dumbnuts sometimes. Nobody his age should be this clueless, and so assured of attitudes that were either created recently, or discredited decades ago. I stopped giving any shits when he started saying it was eewy for the sailor moon girls to be hot and wear skirts.
The Doug Walker joke started quite a bit earlier(I think just cause Daria is his favourite show)., but then people discovered his wife blew up to 300 pounds and Tamera got fat working with him and he commissioned some fat art from LWB and THEN the Sleepy Hollow vid came out where he used the same phrasing and the same image
>he commissioned some fat art from LWB
this story has just gotten.. what is the gossips say, juicy?
good thing i'm not a gossip myself... anyway good for LWB getting such a high-profile commission. That guy is going to be a pro someday.
I think most fans of Daria will agree the quality of the show did not drop but went up till the very end of it's half life. The very end of the series left me yearning for a continuation in some form or another but Daria in college seemed like it would had been boring because college is usually when you finally have it figured out and it is not until you finish and find out the world is not all that simply and resting on your principles is not a luxury given to most adults. Principles are a biproduct of innocence and freedom from responsibilities along with no sense of obligations to anyone but yourself.
Wellll the Tom stuff was definitely a lull, but it remained a good show. and yeah, Daria in college wouldn't work that well. Not unless something happened and last-minute she had to go to community college. and I don't want that to happen to her. Naw, she went to a bigwig smartpeople college. so her life presumably became great. >the rest of this post
oh shit, I mean you are half right but i feel like you and me fundamentally disagree on most of this. don't confuse liberal college knowitallism with being a good person and standing up for fundamentals. that's almost the opposite.
>don't confuse liberal college knowitallism with being a good person and standing up for fundamentals. that's almost the opposite
That is not really what I was getting at but not being a douche meaning taking advantage of the ignorant, innocent, and well-meaning is a trait fostered by the capitalistic system. That is what I am getting at. We see time and time again that douche bags, and straight up c**ts win or get ahead in society with little to no legal or social recourse unless it is to be made example of.
Principles I speak of is being against slave or low-wage labor but still being consumer or a patron in frivolous things we don't need or really desire. It is like the whataboutisms on having a smart phone and still complaining when you could easily buy an old flip phone to take care of all your needs to stay connected. You may even avoided the smartphone until it finally breaks in half on you and your provider store does not carry anymore flip phones and gang presses you into converting into a smart phone plan because you have doctors appointments, and financial responsibilities that must be met that prevents you from waiting 2+ weeks from having on delivered to the store.
Don't let no one tell you otherwise. The corporate hands forces the little guy to convert through simple use of fabricated unaccusable resource scarcity simply to steer the market as such. No one really needs a smart phone, but the social engagement is the desired corporate mandate to keep people consumer and taking away your privacy to sell away your wants and desires to the highest bidder to be targeted.

ditto, you couldn't have put it better if I was making a parodic single-panel comic about you.
I used to love Daria back in the day and rewatching it now I'm surprised at how dry it is. Yeah, I never thought the show was hilarious or anything, but I'm surprised it made me laugh at all when I was an obnoxious hyperactive child.
I’ve never actually gotten around to watching a single episode, as an adult. My teenage aunt, back then, seemed to have enjoyed it whenever she was home around the time it would air on MTV, but I was a little too young to understand what made it funny and I never cared enough to check it out as I got older.
As far as ehat qualifies for a cartoon show, Daria is a pretty decent show. It has aged though. Daria is upper middle class which is non existence anymore, while still being less than "the rich"
Jodie was nobody's favorite character. I guess it's par for the course since Daria was kind of a nobody in Beevis and Butthead. But like...even in that show I feel like Daria had more prominence in that show than Jodie ever did. Jodie was mostly just a straightman to Daria and Jane's Cynicism.
I thought they abandonded the stupid Jodie idea wtf. Just endend a recent series rewatch and she is only good as a foil to Daria and secondary character, how fricking boring will it be to have goodie two shoes normie as the mc?
This show could only work if she came from a mostly inner city school full of mostly black, and hispanic student body. Where being white, asian, or arabic was the minority. Then she would have a real world perspective of being in an all white school being a minority herself now. Making her relative to any audience.
There, I made the premise for you MTV. Give me a job now, k, thanks.
I do think with all the minority-pandering, it is kinda annoying they don't ever try mixing the formula up. it's the same ol 'white vs nonwhite' shit that was already tiring in the 19th century. why not give us native americans clashing with mexicans? THAT would be some interesting shit. watching them work it out
I'm reminded frequently these days of that surprisingly good Sandler movie 'you don't mess with the zohan' (title aside). where they made a pretty nice story about israeli and palestinian americans trying to get along because frickit we're americans now.
It is more tiresome when media portays all whites as some kind of unified culture of guilt for things that are in control by the few who are wealthy and in power. It is often the privilege college educated whites who feel the need to play keep playing the pearl clutch soap box speakers thinking they are moral authority figures to the average blue collar worker who has no pull or say beyond voting for a representative who is always moving political goals for the lobbying groups who dont care about what the common person needs.
this, jodie and mack were terrible characters. they had nothing going for them other than being the token blacks. if they were removed from the show nothing would change
I think Mack's gimmick was being labeled as the hip black friend. Which Mack himself hated. It is not much of a persona, and Jodie was just a positive role model for all the other black students. Like the two or three that attended Lawndale.

Mack was basically there to give Kevin someone else to be stupid at.
Right? They were kinda like the weird title-page or ancillary cover art you'd get with manga.
like here's goku and friends dressed in some cool indian garb or whatever, driving in a big jeep, because toriyama felt like drawing it. not related to any story or needing to be in-character for them.
pizza is bread and tomatoes and cheese, anon. i know what jamie oliver and chelly obammy tried to drill into you, but it's not made of poison. Just food. It's pretty calorie-dense, but it's also complete nutrition. Just don't eat more than you are hungry for (say, due to stress), and don't totally lack energy (say, due to stress), and you won't be fat

That is how I feel about """"the prequels"""". For all the things wrong with those movies, they were sure as hell full of original material that fans grasp to. Anything that is """"new"""" in Star Wars is just repackaging the old safe stuff while still trying to disassociate the EU material that fans love but Disney cannot profit solely from..

well, that's a funny thing, because I see that more as people just following the crowd. the crowd one day said to hate the prequels, so people did. now the crowd says to give them a chance and hate the sequels. well, episodes 7 and 8 were okay in my book, it's only 9 that ruins them. I'll take 7 and 8 anyday over the prequels, but that's just me. >can't profit solely from
it is so weird, people call them 'greedy' and say they only care about money, but they clearly hate money. they don't want anyone else making any, even if they would make more. and would rather make none.

The crowd of casuals are not the same as the crowd of fans who are patrons of the media they like. You can only gauge honest opinions from people who spend time and money on things in their hobby-sphere. The Prequels gave us great video games, extended media, and community inspired lore bits (Extended Universe). Episode 7 was just rehashed garbage imo but was safe enough to bring in new fans and make old fans satisfied that they might be good. Episode 8 although proved the contrary with no actual direction and subverted expectations so badly they made no one happy and had to do a soft reboot in the 9th movie that no one liked.
Disney not only dropped the ball but passed it off to directors who gave no fricks about the franchise. The first mistake when trying to revive a long standing franchise. Just like how the new Star Trek material is pretty much underwhelming trash that dont really respect old fans in the slightest.

Fair enough but that's because they poured tons of money into making prequel related stuff, because it was their big moneypush thing. it didn't matter whether it was liked or not.
But yeah you are basically right. alls I know is, the best star wars shit came out of the period between original and prequels, all that shadows of the empire stuff, the kyle katarn games, a push to make lastingly popular media not connected to any movies or shows, just part of the universe.

Pretty much the entire marketing of TFA was about how it TOTALLY wasn't the prequels. LOOK AN X-WING! LOOK AT US USING REAL SETS! It just ended up being ironic that while the Naboo starfighter while not being as iconic as the X-wing at least had it's own identity and thus personality and also it turns out that the overuse of CGI in a vacuum was not the sole problems facing the PT. And this is off the cuff hearsay but I remember reading somewhere that TFA actually had, pound for pound, for CGI than phantom menace did. And honestly I think this, if nowhere else, is where the PT sort of shines. It's a broad and vague enough time span, especially if you want to get into the old republic era that bordered on similarity to the OT while having it's own vibe. If that vibe was good or not is a wholly different discussion but I digress.
The ST not only stuck too close to the OT but went out of the way to shit over it every chance it got. It didn't take the brand into a new era to market and explore and if anything basically broke all the toys out of spite. There is nothing you can do with the brand going forward.
>the awkward chubby camp girl
fantastic taste, anon. I would gf her in five seconds.
like jesus, Daria, she's a -teenager.- you should have a higher threshold for awkward teen shit, and be in more of a guidance mode than your usual judgmental shit. This isn't a bully messing with you, she's just slightly less good at the whole snarky rebel thing.
I suppose if she had a better relationship with her mother and sister, she would have handled it better.
moreso than ever before, going by the last thread
you have the usual types who think daria was wrong and weirdos deserve what they get, but not nearly as many as in Cinemaphile days past.
I love Daria and I want to marry her.
well they seem to be against self pitying sorts, they don't understand that a lot of us really have had it rough and it's their fault.
like we're not looking for apology here, but at least understanding. you didn't earn your normietude, you were either born into it or you gave in to it. it's not an accomplishment.
that too.
I can't say I never treat anyone that way, but the (few) people whom I believe are SO wrong that I won't even give them a place? I don't try to argue their values with them. The discussion ended.
It is more tiresome when media portays all whites as some kind of unified culture of guilt for things that are in control by the few who are wealthy and in power. It is often the privilege college educated whites who feel the need to play keep playing the pearl clutch soap box speakers thinking they are moral authority figures to the average blue collar worker who has no pull or say beyond voting for a representative who is always moving political goals for the lobbying groups who dont care about what the common person needs.
indeed. if we could only expose and spread the very correct idea that all this stuff is "a white thing" it would implode under its own weight.
but anyway this is why I enjoy watching Daria. yeah they touch on issues from time to time, but it's mild, it's not hopeless, and it's got a 90s attitude to it.
It's just not something you'd see today. 'Course, you wouldn't see any cartoons aimed at teens these days - the absence of which is probably why today's teens are much more into anime, as it's providing what the west isn't providing. not that i'm complaining.
>at this point there really isn't anything targeted at anyone except the tiniest kids and the oldest women.
I'd ask where it all went wrong, but it never really went right in the first place if we're talking about the cartoon industry in general. Just reading Maxwell Atoms's tumblr blog really puts a lot of stuff into perspective. God, I always loved Johnny Bravo, yet I only recently realized that both Butch Hartman and Seth Macfarlane got their starts there and that they have nearly the same exact type of humor
I was just watching a stream where we discussed those two, and all the surprising number of things they worked on.
Technically I think we had several points where things were either going right, or going right enough to re-right what had fallen off the track. but every time, EVERY TIME things get good, executives go "Well shit, we have to protect this good thing we have going. let's starve it, change everything, stop taking risks (taking risks is what got us here, and we're already HERE, so obviously we can stop, right?) and fire everyone"
and then the company loses billions and for some reason the execs are never fired.
Corporate monopoly rodents aside is there anything worth discussing in this thread? Unless there is new fans creating new material we don't really need Daria threads to exist. It is not like MTV is going to do anything with this IP besides a canceled proposed spinoff about a supporting character with no fanfare following. It just comes off as some shallow attempt for a progression media company to look progressive.
>fans creating new material
I mean.. that arranged can be. >is there anything worth discussing
every time we have one of these, we find something to talk about. it's 4 seasons of quality TV that was very much unlike anything else at the time, or before or since really. I mean, imagine a teen-focused animated series coming out today, with a cast of total nobodies, spun off from a goofy adult comedy parodying how stupid young people are these days.

True, also noone has the right to try and argue the values of a person who refuse to give into their lot in society.
that too.
I can't say I never treat anyone that way, but the (few) people whom I believe are SO wrong that I won't even give them a place? I don't try to argue their values with them. The discussion ended.
indeed. if we could only expose and spread the very correct idea that all this stuff is "a white thing" it would implode under its own weight.
but anyway this is why I enjoy watching Daria. yeah they touch on issues from time to time, but it's mild, it's not hopeless, and it's got a 90s attitude to it.
It's just not something you'd see today. 'Course, you wouldn't see any cartoons aimed at teens these days - the absence of which is probably why today's teens are much more into anime, as it's providing what the west isn't providing. not that i'm complaining.
that's kinda been the case for decades, at this point there really isn't anything targeted at anyone except the tiniest kids and the oldest women.
>at this point there really isn't anything targeted at anyone except the tiniest kids and the oldest women.
>Show is great
But the fanbase sucks

bump
ironically both has nothing to do with Daria.
>la la la la la
I want to make sex with Daria
>La la la la la
I want to see Jane cry.
How dare you?
I wanna see her pussy cry
you wanna see her pee? yuck
I meant in imply squirting but thats also work in a creepy perv kinda way
I have a pretty solid memory of seeing maybe like SIX episodes and am always surprised to learn that it went on for far longer than I realized.
this episode turned me on
Do that again
Thoughts on Beavis and Butthead era Daria?
