I wish Batman writers would stop doing this kind of meta-commentary bullshit and get back to writing police procedurals / detective stories with Batman.
Yeah. Batman being enough of a freak to dress up in a silly costume and violently take the law into his own hands, but not enough of a freak to kill anyone, is a conceit. It's not something a writer should draw attention to, or dwell on. The readers are perfectly willing to suspend disbelief as long as you don't rub their noses in it.
I can't remember a single good detecetive story featuring Batman. Strong emphasis on "good" and "detective", it's always some cheap BS like Long Halloween or Hush. Any reco?
Dini’s Detective Comics run. A lot of his run was one or two issue mysteries. Top recommendation
I would also recommend City of Crime, Gothic, and the Last Arkham. First 2 have supernatural twists but it’s still Batman solving a mystery for the bulk of the story. Last Arkham lacks the supernatural stuff but there’s a few twists you may call bullshit on. Broken City kind of gets up its own ass but Azzarello still weaves a good noir tale. Personally thought all 4 were excellent comics.
Black Mirror but it’s Dick, not Bruce if that matters to you
Gotham by Gaslight , elseworlds story
Absolution has good detective work but the overall comic is just okay. Nice art though
Neil Adam’s run from the 70s has a lot of detective work and mystery of the week issues. Not every issue is a winner but when Adams is on point, he writes some timeless masterpieces.
Some people cite Court of Owls, the Black Glove, and Man Who Laughs as good Batman as a detective stories, but I always felt that the mystery in all 3 was under developed or not that complex a mystery. Still worth a read in my opinion.
Recommend you try the first 4 recommendations, then go from there Anon.
>Does anyone actually genuinely buy this reasoning?
Yes it's the canon explanation behind The Batman Who Laughs, you worthless newbie
Batman not ONCE has ever "come back" after killing Joker no matter what book it is or who is writing it.
Even the dream sequence in Injustice has him locked up in jail.
>Injustice dream sequence has him in jail
ok? did he get into jail for mass murdering multiple people? or did he get into jail by turning himself in and acting a goody two shoes? >batkek
was made by the joker formula
his bloodlust has nothing to do with “being unable to stop”
>worthless newbie
bro I've been reading comics for decades by now, I don't care about some flash in the pan character made like 5 years ago to sell action figures. Lame Judge Death ripoff
How many pages have been dedicated to this pointless plot point that will never actually be resolved? Why do capeshit writers have this pathological need to "fix" things that aren't broken?
No, because you can just kill the guy without doing all of that sadist shit Bruce just described. That's the problem with capeshit. It's either don't kill at all or become a psychopath, there's no middle ground where they use lethal force only in extreme cases.
>kills babies
>kills Gordon wife
>cripples Gordon daughter
>kills Bruce adopted son
nothing personnel
To be fair, Bruce is a horrid person and gives 0 shits about his adopted kids. Or his real kid for that matter.
wasn't always like this, but in the last 6 years, every writer is hell bent on making him a cold heartless shit bastard of a father

So even if he doesn't do it why doesn't he just sit and watch as some cop shoots him in the head. He's definitely a dangerous shoot on sight criminal.

never expect anything well written from Winick. The best thing he ever wrote was Outsiders, and it's average.
It’s a midwit take, Winnick is a shit writer only mediocre guys who identify with Jason love.
why does he have to kill him specifically, what about all the times he saved Joker from someone else?
hint: that's why this page is utterly moronic

Batkek became evil because Joker infected him with his laughing gas, though. It wasn't just the act of killing the clown, you newbie.

What about Diana?
Name 5 notable villians she killed.
Hard mode: no Max Lord.
midwits shouldnt be allowed to write comics.
