It'd make him fat, Jesse Eisenberg is moronic.

Even if that was true, there is no way to even remotely accurately estimate
      > the nominal calorie content of anything
      > how much calories your body can even use
      > how much calories your body needs to expend to use those calories
      > your resting calorie usage, let alone your active usage

It's all bro science, the only reason calorie counting kinda works is because you start consciously consider what you're putting in your body

        >the nominal calorie content of anything
Yes you can. Water has 0 calories. You'll die of hyponatremia before you get fat drinking water.

You can't survive on water alone either, as you just said. Also cold water effectively takes energy (calories) from your body, this figure on the other hand can be perfectly calculated but isn't very useful at all.

            >this figure on the other hand can be perfectly calculated

            Accidental typo?

              >Also cold water effectively takes energy (calories) from your body

              wut

Say you drink 1000 ml of 10 °C water that will heat up inside your body to 37 °C. The amount of energy needed for this is 112968 joules, which is exactly 27 calories (which really are kilocalories to be exact).

In order to break down complex sugars and starches, your body also needs to expend some energy before being able to use the energy contained within. You can also calculate this exactly.

Now try doing this to a bowl of salad or a cheeseburger and you will realize it is impossible to do, even the input data differs wildly from study to study, there is no way to tell whether you are in 500 cal deficit or 500 cal surplus, or some other value entirely.

If you're the average sedentary homosexual in the industrialized world, you burn
              >1,200 calories a day if you're a woman
              >2,000 calories a day if you're a man

These rules of thumb are tremendously useful even if they don't apply to (you) because you're a midge or you swim 25 miles a day or whatever

Assuming you're a fatass, you know your caloric deficit is working when you weigh yourself once a week for a month and the number is on a slow downtrend. In the (incredibly unlikely) even that you're underweight, simply increase calories to go the other way.

What the frick is complicated about this other than a massive screaming cope of "I DON'T WANNA"?

I counted my calories before and I know it works, but not because you or anyone can estimate any calories.

This is true, and the amount of energy your body spends breaking down food can vary quite a bit. Burning proteins for energy is much less eficient than burning grape sugar

Ultimately, this energy expenditure is too small to really matter for your weight loss calculations though. Even if it results in a 5% imprecision, that shouldn't be enough to frick up your diet, because you wouldn't be seriously trying to lose weight on only a 5% deficit.

I'm okay with this. As far as I'm concerned the biggest benefit of calorie counting is still the fact that I notice what goes down my gullet. I bet 99% of people couldn't accurately list what and how much they ate yesterday.

Calorie counting doesn't work. Fasting + cutting out processed food works. I did it when I was in my 20s and I noticed:

                >dandruff gone
                >hair grew longer since scalp wasn't dry and flaky
                >lost 50lbs
                >stopped snoring, slept better
                >no more acne
                >skin felt smoother
                >nails got harder
                >teeth got whiter
                >pooped much less and came out smoother
                >didn't get tired as easily
                >people said I looked younger in general
I'm almost 30 and look better than I did at 19.
Fasting + cutting out junk worked.
I stopped fasting once the weight came off but will do it again if I ever get fat.

That's great anon, I'm really happy for you.

What kinds of meals do you eat now? I found learning basic cooking is what helped me. I fell for the keto meme and it made me feel much better, but only recently I worked out it was just because most of the garbage I USED to eat was carbs.
Nowadays I eat really simple, easy meals that are actually balanced (no meme diets) and I'm happier and healthier. Literally every aspect of my life is better because of it.

I basically eat almost no procssed foods. That's literally all I need to do now. Dinner is basically meat and veg. Breakfast is meat and fruit. Lunch is meat and fruit. The fasting really opened my eyes as to what my old diet was doing to my body. I would recommend everybody do a 72 hour fast just to see how their body reacts to not having junk inside it every day.

I have a hardcore case of dandruff (scalp, brows, nose and upper lips) and I eat pretty healthy. Bowl of rice are the only carbs I eat, otherwise it's just greens and meat and eggs, with the occasional banana and some milk. No refined sugars at all, no alcohol or any drugs, no bread, no sweets, no cigarettes, no coffee, just unsweetened tea without caffein in it.

That's dermatitis. You need to go on a fast until it clears up. Then slowly introduce foods until you notice the ones that make you flare up. Usually its stuff like tomatoes, potatoes, grains, etc.

People with severe skin issues should fast to reset their gut. Something you are eating is really hurting your gut. All skin issues start from your gut being raped by your diet. I suggest fasting and then doing mono meals until you figure out the cause of your gut distress. For some people it store bought eggs, for some people it is nightshade plants like tomatoes, for some people it is pasteurized milk. For most people it is any kind of grain.

Dandruff is just your gut reacting to shitty food. You will notice it is mostly gone after a water fast. Same with acne and ezcema. All skin issues are just gut distress. Can you still excercise while fast, particularily jogging? Or wait after the fast?

You will find that it is easier to exercise when you are actively fasting. I recommend doing the following to guarantee weight loss without needing any outside help.
                >eat every other day, fast in between those days and just drink water and keep yourself busy with work, hobbies or exercise. Eat Monday, Fast Tuesday, Eat Wednesay. etc.

Nightshades like tomatoes are bad for many people but oranges shouldnt hurt you.

Stupid question, does rice count as a grain?

Yes, but white rice is the least harmful grain so most people can enjoy it in moderation but you will get fat from eating too much and sticky glutinous rice is more fattening than something like basmati or jasmine. I think most people are OK with white rice for lunch and dinner but the rest of your carbs should come from raw honey and fruit.

count calories for everything you put into your body. I guarantee that count is high if you're not losing weight.
bread is especially bad, not saying you can't have any but personally if I do sandwiches they are open-face because even just 1 slice is 100+ calories.

Counting calories is stupid and a trap for women. It is better to avoid processed food. If you are fat or obese you should fast until your fat is down to a healthy BMI then just avoid processed food alone.

In terms of gut things generally not.

                It IS a grain.

It tends to be gluten the problem, which is found in anything wheat.

This anon is correct. Gluten is the culprit but you will find that in processed food as well. I always tell people to go gluten free even if they don't have celiac but the best answer is no processed food at all.

I agree with avoiding processed food but calories are an important concept people just ignore. Also it's a much easier first step than telling someone to water fast immediately. Count the calories to see just how shitty your diet is, cut the worst of it out, and make improvements to reach a certain goal. Then if you're comfortable do the water fast to drop quicker.

Not physically possible. You're lying to yourself, time to check what you're really eating or how hard you're really jogging during your workout sessions.

Greens are not "healthy" by some magic, they're "healthy" because it takes your body effort to digest it, so some of the energy you get from the food is lost on turning it into energy. Getting fat by eating veggies is perfectly possible, basically what sumo wrestlers do. Its simply much harder to become fat because veggies are more inefficient as a food source. Thats still only half a story, you still need exercise of some kind to burn down calories.

Calorie labels are inaccurate and your diet affects your metabolism, so you can reduce your calories on paper but end up increasing your calories in. Or you can reduce your calories on paper but end up reducing your metabolism by even more as a result, making you gain weight.

The 2nd law of thermodynamics was formulated in response to the concept of engine efficiency, which it describes abstractly. The people you're responding to are pointing out that diet changes the efficiency of the 'engine' (the body), so they're not violating the law at all.

If you find out that you won't lose weight despite counting calories, it means that either you miscalculated the calories you burn or the calories you ingest. It's utterly irrelevant what caused that miscalculation, you just need to adjust your food intake or exercise routine to make up for the mistake. The moment you start eating less calories than you spend is the moment you start losing weight and nothing can change that.

You can keep iterating until you find a diet where the witch's brew works out and you are at a caloric deficit without a nutrient deficit, or you can just abandon the CICO framework and construct your diet correctly the first time by using proper nutrition principals.

That depends on what he eats. A donut's worth of calories in apples is not going to be stored in his body as fat as readily.

Kek. You correctly suggest using caloric averages as a starting guide and then recording your weight over time, so you can construct an objective dataset to make your adjustment decisions off of and they say “bro science.” This is literally the same method manufacturers use for physical inventory, but nah, totally, fatties are right, it’s impossible to construct a model of general accuracy for your own body. Might as well just eat pizza everyday and not bother working out.

some number of calories in dr pepper vs the same number of calories in fish is not the same, but a lot of the time people think it is, either because of how they're raised or where they live or whatever.

The CICO conversation doesn't mean all food is the same, it's to give people a framework in thinking towards eating within a budget.

Practically speaking it's important to have a balanced diet because 1200 calories in refined carbs will have you feel like you're starving vs 1200 calories coming from a balanced diet with a lot of dietary fiber and protein.

            >but a lot of the time people think it is

this also doesn't work because your body does not perfectly burn calories either. it probably burns somewhere around 50-60% of the actual food calories in reality. maybe the percentage is even lower in fatties

You don't need to know any of those exact numbers. You know that the body retains some calorie content, and the higher the calorie content of food, the more gets retained, and this is obviously and easily demonstrated by obese people who eat a lot of high calorie content and get obese.

Bread breaks down into sugar so that your body can utilize it as a form of quick energy. If you don't use that energy, it gets stored in your body as fat. Of course if you eat too much calories and don't use those calories in a physical activity, the calories get stored as fat.

I agree that exercise isn't as effective as a calorie deficit but it's not like it does nothing.
Again I do 1500 calories and that is probably much more responsible for my weight loss than the 15-20 minutes of walking I do 4x a week. but exercise does burn some calories and it improves heart health and circulation which is a big risk factor if you're sitting around all day or have a family history like I do.
So yeah if you don't wanna exercise that might be alright, just means you have to cut even more calories. Just don't come crying when you get deep vein thrombosis or something.

If you want to build a habit instead of going to the gym twice for 90mins, you must consider even a 15 min workout a proper workout, otherwise you will fail your habit very fast.

I didn't say 90 minutes, I said 40 minutes. 40 minutes is perfectly fine as a starter, its little over half an hour, just enough for you to break a sweat. And its not my recommendation, its the EU health recommendation for cardio and exercise. Go to any doctor and they give you the magic number of 40 minutes to any patient.

Honestly exercise didn't work for me when I lost weight. What made me lose weight was fasting every other day. If you are fat the only way to lose weight easily is to force your body to not keep consuming junk. However, once you stop fasting after the weight is gone you have to change your diet or you will get it back.

Fasting = stop eating so much. Its so simple I wish I had done it sooner. It also forced me to stop overeating during meals since my stomach shrank while I fasted so I literally couldn't eat like I did before.

Bread is one of the worst things you can eat and the more processed it is, the worse it is. I stopped eating it and lost a lot of weight plus my wife says I don't snore anymore and I think its because the bread was causing inflammation in my airways.

Basically don't eat processed food and you won't get fat. A little bread is OK as long as its not the processed kind. Baking your own bread from scratch is also an improvement.

To lose weight, eat natural foods like fruits, meat, eggs, fish, vegetables in their natural forms. Better yet, take long breaks between the days you eat aka fasting, so that your body has time to use the food to maintain itself.

            >For example, someone may have gone on a 16:8 fasting diet because they’ve been told by their doctor that they need to lose weight and we know that living with excess weight is a risk factor for heart and circulatory disease.

One kg of rice is 1300 kcals. So your "meal" is 130 kcals. Oh but wait, we also included a $2 chicken breast with $0.50 of onions and $1.67 of bell pepper, so we're spending ~$1 on rice, ~$2 on aromatics, $2 on chicken. Only $5 for this meal of uhhh
            500 kcals

Isn't $8 for 1kg rice a lot? I generally buy rice around here by the 20lbs for around $20 which would put me around $2-3 per kg of rice.

Buy frozen. It's better than eating cup o' noodles and funyuns.
If you simply ate meat, frozen fish, frozen chicken, pork, frozen veg, eggs, cheese, butter, rice and frozen fruit blended in a smoothie, that's all you would need to do to eat better than 90% of Americans.

You know what I mean. Bags of frozen fruit and a blender will take care of all your simple carb needs. And it costs so little compared to produce. Then just have White rice if you feel you need a complex carb.

Even if it were true, you could eat 2000 cal/day of fattening food instead of 4000 and it would be even cheaper and you would be less fat

I generally eat pretty good since my mom makes healthy food, I only eat outside once a week (usually a kebab or burger). The problem was that despite swimming three times a week, I ate a frick ton of biscuits with the afternoon snack. I just stopped doing that and added two days of light dumbbell exercises and dropped from 69kg to 64 pretty easily.

I am Spaniard, I eat real bread from a real bakery, with real charcuterie made from real pork. I also do physical activity.

I will not listen to dietary advice and cultish diet gurus praised by American sedentary deviants who eat lumps of sugar for bread and eat skin and cartilage for charcuterie, and I will keep eating as much real bread as I want, end of story.

      >If you eat a lot of it and don't exercise, yeah, it can
The biggest lie in the world is that you can lose tons of weight by exercising. That's why so many people fail. Exercise is good for building muscle and muscle does burn fat, but it will never burn as much fat as the average American puts on every single day by eating crap. The only effective way to lose weight is to stop eating so goddamn much crap.

A pound of chicken is $4 for the generic store water-infused shit. That's 750 kcals. So you're looking at ~$10 of chicken a day just to meet your basic caloric needs. This doesn't count any aromatics or seasonings if you want food that actually tastes good.

I feel bad for morons who think chicken is the only food they can eat to lose weight. The best way to lose weight is to eat high fat, high protein and low carb with no processed food. That's the natural diet of humanity. Everybody can do it, even if they are on welfare.

If you wanted to not spend so much time and money, just fast and simplify your meals when you eat. Fasting saves you money and time. When you eat, just cook at home. It's simple. You can literally cut your food bill in half by simply fasting every other day, but people insist on having 3 meals a day plus snacks when they weigh 300 lbs.

I have to admit. Fasting was the only thing that got me under 200 lbs. I wish I had done it during college when I needed to save money and not be a fatass.
