I HATE Godzilla fans. The entire fricking franchise went off on this Monster WWF bullshit tangent when the first one and Shin Godzilla were about the powerlessness of man.
Nah, this is a genuinely midwit poser take. Watch the actual Japanese cuts. Pretty much all the Ishiro Honda directed films maintain and expand upon the themes of the original. Obviously not all the othere are winners, but more often than not they have something to say and say it well. The only ones that could be accurately called wwf bullshit are megalon, 74 mechagodzilla, and final wars.
It was great and the sequel was too. Very good example of Godzilla as a hero. Also it's nice to see the contrast between Fukuda and Honda (and also Sato and Ifukube).
The first one is about the folly of man, and specifically Japan's relationship with death and destruction post-WWII. Man without power in a Godzilla story would be a total misinterpretation. Man is horrifyingly powerful in Godzilla. Shin follows up the original by using Godzilla as a means of addressing Japan's relationship with the outside world after WWII. It's a cautionary tale but ultimately praises the Japanese people's recovery. Coolest part of the whole movie is that the selfish motivation for stopping Godzilla, that it'd be embarrassing to have another nuke dropped on them, is considered totally valid and not something for stubborn old fricks to obstruct proactive characters over.
Everyone who says "Godzilla is about le insignificance of man" is just applying their own preconceptions to it. Godzilla is about the fact that humanity can create such a monster.

There is. That's how it was at the beginning even if future movies focused more on action. The first movie is so interesting to analyze from many different angles.

Honda didn't like this direction but ultimately it's a lighthearted movie, it works. It's like a nice fairy tale and very relaxing even though some of the previous movies from the 60s were a lot better.

As silly as the council of Mothra is in GTTHM it's also fascinating to know Godzilla's point of view. And he is a victim who lost everything and has no other way to get justice but he's also not beyond redemption. It's beautiful really. And also conveniently let Toho make more movies.
I like how Godzilla vs. Spacegodzilla established that she's still aware of everything that happens on Earth and is able to give advice to Miki. So she knows what happened with Godzilla and how he was ready to settle down and live in peace with his son if it wasn't for everything that happened. So like 10 years after the events from the movie she will be back and meet with Junior. I don't think any of the possible sequels to Heisei series did anything with that fact.

My head canon is that she is just a schizoid. There is no such thing as ESP in any form in the movies. Through sheer Japanese nepotism, she was given a department with autistic kids where she could larp. While for the government, it's just money laundering. Considering how much actual impact Miki has had on the events of the Heisei despite being basically in every single one of them, I am not that far off. She needed to get impregnated by someone honestly. She was projecting her idle eggs over a radioactive dinosaur baby for like 3 movies. If the series didn't end at Destoroyah, she would have sued Godzilla for custody of Junior. Citing him as being a deadbeat dad as the cause.
It doesn't have the best opinions. I also watch non-Godzilla Toho movies but Three Treasures and Yamato Takeru is not among them. I count them more as mythological movies but it wasn't well received.
