It doesn't do much on its own. Comics never sell well if its only appeal is coomer art. Stuff like Battle Chasers is well known for Red Monika but the style and action is what got people invested in the series before Joe Mad dropped the whole thing. Even though it's cheesecake, it's more like the cherry on top.
This. Nerds on the internet will complain for a decade straight any time they get a comic that isn't full of sexy costumes, but including such designs in the first place does not directly translate into better sales. The most obvious evidence of this is that the comics with sexier designs do not dramatically outsell their peers that lack this quality, therefore it cannot be the deciding factor in sales.
Nor does it make sense that such designs ever *could* be the make or break point when the internet exists. For anyone so obsessive over these designs that it is their driving motivation as a consumer, they can get a nearly unlimited amount of art of these designs online *for free*, why would they ever pay for a comic of it when their alternative that caters to their desires is so easily available without the cost?
I think comics (of all countries and genres, not just capeshit) if they find it fitting can make do with a healthy mix of sexy and substance. Substance trumps with sexy being the cherry on top but if sexy is as much as part of the identity of the property as it is it's substance, it becomes jarring to suddenly denounce it, alienating even.
Likewise, you can have gorgeous sexy art but if the substance fails, things fall apart as well, harder and faster even.
Why can't we have a healthy dose of both?
Additionally Batlle Chasers sold because it was styled as a battle manga when actual translations of battle manga were still nascent in the west. One of the reasons the revival is falling short is because now far more people can look at it and go "Wait Garrison is just Guts" when back in the day a lot of us were ignorant.
It’s a multiplier. Hard to carry everything on its own, but it maximizes appeal of what you have. Right now stuff that appeals to heterosexual men is in decline, so it’s a good way to stand out to an active/excited base. It’s good for longevity too if you have a popular character.
But like, what though? Jump hasn't had a hit in over a decade and everything they're pushing is just mediocre. JJK has some cool fights but not much else substance and CSM has cute girls carrying the series.
I'm talking about how comics (ie. media largely made by and for white people) have become really gay and removed tons of hetero fanservice over the last decade.

something I never understood is why Naruto is more influential when One Piece is more popular. MHA, KnYm JJK and Black Clover all feel inspired by Naruto in one way or another but you don't really see much One Piece influence in most modern shounen.

One Piece is harder to imitate since the story branches wildly with events happening simultaneusly on diferent world parts, powerups aren't completely linear since they have both unique abilitys (like hxh and jojos) and Haki (regualr "ki/energiy" shonen shit) but also weapons, technology and just wacky cahracters
so people just use regular shonen formula from dbz/naruto/etc. easy power levels scales and magical asspulls, you ever asked why jiraiya had like 100 jutsus and naruto only ever learn like 5, cuz jiraiya shows in less than 5% of all the manga

SJ actively discourages series that are "too much like" other series they are currently running from getting printed. One Piece is an adventure manga. Ergo they don't fricking accept submissions of other adventure manga.
Of course "battle" doesn't register for them So all these groups that ultimately fall into cliches that define static action series got their foot in the door by promising different things.

You think the israeli owners of these companies ASKED white people what they wanted to see? Do you think they give a shit that sales tank? The beatings will continue until morale improves.

Sure, that's part of it, but even on the indie side where said companies have no say, a lot of what white people have been putting out in recent years has been really really gay.
Eventually it stops just being a israeli issue and becomes a multitude of issues.

I have. He grew up a latchkey kid because his neighborhood averaged 2 shootings a month. And we're not talking hatsune miku. He went full precure. For his birthday one year we made him a shirt that said "Niga kunai tbh. Moe ga moeteru!" Which translates to "I'm not bitter. I'm BURNING WITH MOE". Which could be shortened to "homie is moe a frick!"
I blame people like Linkara (even if he turn out to be a degen) for the death of cheesecake in mainstream comics because he talk all the time about being a feminist and all this shit talking about shit being objectifying before people even thought about that shit with comics. I remember he went on a rant about single panel that had close up of Supergirl chest and how it's unnecessary and blah blah and just her chest with the logo in front completely harmless no one think nothing of it but his porn riddled brain is so fricked I guess he did. I remember watching that video in my teens and when he got to that part even I knew how stupid he seemed.
The problem is the inherent prudishness of american culture which prevents people from just accepting something as being sexy and that being okay.
In America, if someone accuses you of framing a specific panel of putting a character in a position that highlights their cleavage, the obvious and objectively correct answer is "Yes, that was intentional." But you're not allowed to say that, because that admits that humans are capable of sexual arousal in this sinful christian world, so they have to instead either backpeddle furiously and promise not to do it again or make up some garbage excuse for how, yes, it might LOOK like this character's outfit is a sling bikini with a couple of accessories, but ACTUALLY that makes sense because X Y Z.
If people could just admit that they drew the sexy person, man or woman, that way because its sexy without getting eaten alive on social media? We would be in a much healthier place.
Linkara was only able to have such extremist prude views because he probably had an angsty crippling porn addiction that he was trying to overcompensate for, his webcomic literally had a "rape city". A strange premise for a superhero setting with no real sense but to be pure voyeurism for the sake of it, so you can understand why he has a harsher view of comics' own minor disturbing voyeurisms.
Pilgrim mindset. >I can’t take it le seriously! Her boobies are too big!
Grow up.
Yeah he was basically coping because any other comic reviewers from his time as little as there was (I do miss those just a picture and dude rambling Youtubers though) won't even really acknowledge these things or would just be like yeah she's hot and move on.
This is why we need to vote for Donald Trump in the reelection. He will toss Linkara out of America and comics will instantly outsell manga, scholastic books, and copies of the Bible.
Choosing beauty over ugliness is usually a safe bet for working in a visual medium. Making sexually appealing work is one way to do that. Desexualized work is sterile, alien, anti-human.
Incorrect, it's actually a lot harder artistically and more visually impressive to make something intentionally ugly
That shouldn't be confused with ugly art that is bad fundamentally.
Clash of genres, it's trying to appeal to the wrong audiences while trying to be taken seriously at once, if I want to read a comic with real stakes, "x" girl boobies "y" guys ass is going to alienate or just feel like pandering. If I want coombait, I read coombait comics that know what they are and don't pretend to be anything else.
Though there's nothing wrong with a little fanservice as long as it's used for plot reasons.
Pilgrim mindset. >I can’t take it le seriously! Her boobies are too big!
Grow up.
>Be this anon >Get married to huge breasted woman and has kids >Child gets in car wreck and dies >Wife tells him >He giggling because her boobs are too big and he can't take her seriously >She looks at him like he insane and leaves
>trying to appeal to the wrong audiences while trying to be taken seriously
This is the real problem.
Comic books, particularly cape comics, take themselves way too seriously.
>Comic books, particularly cape comics, take themselves way too seriously.
It's the opposite these days. They take themselves too lightly so anytime something significant is supposed to happen it's in between self aware and meta humor
In manga you can have totally ridiculous characters with weird or sexy outfits talk about life-or-death stakes
>They take themselves too lightly
Disagree. Capes take themselve way too seriously for something that live in a sanitized world were death or consequences is irrelevant. The genre completely lack self-awareness for this reason and would gain from writers embracing the camp or moronation at this point. > Characters are as smart and interesting as whoever is writing them.
>Me as a kid/teen seeing comics like this
didn't think much of it >Me as an adult
still doesn't think much of it till people make a big deal about it being coomer
I don't know that just like how comic women are drawn my brain use to it, anything else looks a bit off like comic women and men at least and non-grounded stuff are meant to look like peak humans.

Kevin Wada is doing designs on both Spider-Verse and My Adventures with Superman and you horny homosexuals are eating that shit up.
All your favorite artists are 3rd world bisexuals that's why they only draw ass.
Sexy or not, comics and cartoons are not being made to please (You).
Why do you think captan marvel was cancelei 13 times andms Marvel Washington canceled 6 times? And look Wonder woman is now até The bottom of the Sales chart The long skirt, that costume from the movie killed the sales
I am more invested in the wellbeing of a character if I am attracted to that character, because I’m a human. It’s basically a cheat code if it isn’t all you have.
Its called the Halo Effect. Essentially, we are predisposed to liking people we consider attractive, regardless of other qualities, and will mistrust an ugly person in the same situation.
This is an argument for making your characters pleasing to look at, but that doesn't have to mean sexy. A character with an attractive or cute face in a pleasing art style is all you need, you don't need to have the character dressed in a bikini with watermelons on her chest for audiences to like them.
This anon right, character just needs to look appealing hell characters can look ugly and/or fat as all hell and still be appealing in how their design like say The Penguin, Kingpin or some random monster demon or whatever.
Americans children to young adults, the primary target of American comics, don't buy and read American comics.
Only people that unironically buy American comic books are 40 year olds or people that Slab those comic books hoping it will increase value in set amount of years.
Only the pirates read through the plot and see the art style.
At this point, it's the name of the writer that sells comics these days. Besides, if "the sexy art boost sales" thing were true then there wouldn't have been thousands of image comic books getting lost in time.
The truth is that the kind of people who care about sexy art just read manga nowadays.
It's why you end up with multiple literal porn artists being on the top sellers list in America.
And Bud Root's Cavewoman, too.
It won't be a massive hit, but its sustainable with a small core of readers. Funny thing is, a good chunk of Tarot's readers are women.
Balent's a professional that has been doing comics not only for himself but other publishers for decades. He's the exception not the norm. There are so many failed fan service heavy comics.
I'm still wondering why most LCSs didn't transition into making themselves a nerd hangout first, merchandiser second. I think it would've been an effective adaptation to current markets.
Not many can make the shit. You have to start looking into serving food as well. Its why my nearest barns and nobles is still alive: Its got a built in coffee shop.
The town I grew up in had a comic/card/ttrpg/wargaming hobby shop and no space to play in it. It STRONGLY reminded me of a video rental outlet. 3 shelve rows going from 40-50 feet back from the counter, the counter block access to the door, and an 8ish foot gap between the counter and the shelves and a waiting area at the cash register.
Even if they'd ripped half the shelving out it would still be pretty tight to fit lounge space. The place had stagnate air and I don't know if I'd have wanted to hang out there. I as a child wouldn't have spent $30 on snacks going there afterschool... so... where is their revenue stream in just collecting nerds?
The good ones do but the fact of the matter is that the Simpsons was right and that most comic book shops are run by antisocial malcontents that just want you to buy something and get out without engaging with you in any way.
Yup it happens all the time, there was an old comic shop I used to hang out at that had a dnd night. Talked to the owner one time and he just did comics I asked him why no trades or manga. He said it was a fad. He eventually caved in brought in manga anime and trades. Than his daughter dated an anime kid her heart was “shattered” he stopped selling manga and anime store went under. guy was also a dick cheated at dnd. Actually come to think of it he might’ve just went under for being a dick to his customers.
In any consumer product, you need a hook and you need staying power. If you don't have staying power then your product is a flash in the pan without sustainable revenues. If you don't have a hook then you don't draw consumers in to begin with. Sexy art (good art in general) is a hook. You need a good hook, but it's not staying power. But ugly art and ugly characters aren't a hook, and can drive consumers away.
I personally think spider women's poses don't get exaggerated enough. Peter and Mile's poses are extremely more risqué and they were underage while doing them.
having ugly characters is more viable nowadays because then Larry Fink gives you free money through ESG scores so the publishers will always make a profit even if literally nobody reads their crap they have to sell
every single american company has been infiltrated by gay communist israelites that want to subvert every single thing that the average normie takes for granted
>i have never seen a Black person that is into moe.

School Days isn't moe, it literally ends with a double-murder-suicide beheading.
chris chan being free but thad still being in jail is the most evident proof of systemic racism I have ever seen
I heard he did 6 years and got out in 2018 but vaguely remember something about him getting locked up again. Can't find anything about it though, so IDK.
morons cost the state 5 times or more what a regular prisioner (doctors, nurses, facilities meds), its cheaper to release it and just send him his autist paycheck (so he pays his med bills himself) and wait for him to an hero
also he´s probably just a menace for himself or family, not the entire society like a true criminal
No. If people are interested in the design they'll just save it and commission someone to art with it. If you want an example, there's the Metroid series. Samus is at least the top 5 female game characters that everyone has cunmed too but the sales of the games would tell you other wise.
I think if they go too sexy then people are too embarrassed to actually buy the comics. Now some sexy panels here and there? people probably like that.
It's like frosting, a cake without frosting is dry and boring, a cake made of nothing BUT frosting is inedible.
Or in simpler terms, wypipo don't season dey comics no mo.
>Does sexy art increase or decrease sales?
There are dollars dedicated to sexy art that cannot be accessed otherwise. However, sexy is very specific, so what is sexy to one is a turnoff to others. So when you say "increase or decrease sales", it's in compared to what?
Also, don't forget the childrens market.
Also, at certain levels of sexy, you get goverment and systemic intervention. Eg Payment processors. Cinemaphile is HEAVILY affected by this shit.
The "anti sex" left still frequently wants sex, but sex that's unpalatable to heterosexual cis males.
>Any conrete proof?
You have dedicated comics, issues, art books that are sexy specific. You can compare them to both less sexy and non sexy. Consider the relative market sizes of both sexy and non sexy digital art. It is easily a THOUSAND TIMES fricking harder to be viable doing non sexy art.
YA works for example don't max out sexy. But something like Heavy Metal was crippled when the government forced it to tone down sexy.
It doesn't do much on its own. Comics never sell well if its only appeal is coomer art. how did you found out ? was it the orange skin ? the purple suit ? or the filename ?
I will always pick up a book with sexy art over a book without.
Sexy art might bait wankers into buying the book but it ultimately won't carry the book nor save it from cancellation.
Here's your proof
Hey now, anon is just an "idea guy" he doesn't actually concern himself with plebian issues like income and lease payments.
The good ones do but the fact of the matter is that the Simpsons was right and that most comic book shops are run by antisocial malcontents that just want you to buy something and get out without engaging with you in any way.
Maybe they just didn't have any thing worth a damn because comics at Oillies are dirt cheap and always sell.
So they just coincidentally stocked like 2 entire wall's worth of worthless shit?
Yup it happens all the time, there was an old comic shop I used to hang out at that had a dnd night. Talked to the owner one time and he just did comics I asked him why no trades or manga. He said it was a fad. He eventually caved in brought in manga anime and trades. Than his daughter dated an anime kid her heart was “shattered” he stopped selling manga and anime store went under. guy was also a dick cheated at dnd. Actually come to think of it he might’ve just went under for being a dick to his customers.
Most likely because all those comic looks super recent.
>If Only You Knew How Bad Things Really Are
just look at the sales of Ms Marvel vs Captain Marvel
The sales for what now?
Carol Danvers as Ms Marvel (leotard, semi exposed buttcheeks) outsold Carol Danvers as Captain Marvel
But ugly art and ugly characters aren't a hook, and can drive consumers away.
>hurr ever noticed how a man posing like a woman looks weird? check mate chuds
the idea behind the hawkeye initiative was moronic, why so many people took it seriously back then?
It lead to some funny drawings...man I completely forgot about this shit...I remember some capeshit people I use to talk to took it seriously
100 is not baseline IQ
I never realized how long Spider Woman's neck is.
I personally think spider women's poses don't get exaggerated enough. Peter and Mile's poses are extremely more risqué and they were underage while doing them.
Yeah but they're men so nobody gives a frick about them.
having ugly characters is more viable nowadays because then Larry Fink gives you free money through ESG scores so the publishers will always make a profit even if literally nobody reads their crap they have to sell
>And when everyone is ugly... I will no longer be mocked
every single american company has been infiltrated by gay communist israelites that want to subvert every single thing that the average normie takes for granted
But anon... every comic company in America was founded by communist israelites. They were probably gay too.
You don't need huge breasts to sell copies. The issue is how dogshit american comics these days. No amount of ass or breasts gonna fix it.
More than prudes would like to
Less than people batting for sexy art as a sales point think
Ehh, I'm not that into generic CGDCT, but I like some cute wholesome stuff from time to time like pic related.
>i have never seen a Black person that is into moe.
Do you want me to post all of the 1000 of twitter screenshots? Holy frick you tourist, one of the most popular Cinemaphile Black folk was obsessed with school days.
>one of the most popular Cinemaphile Black folk was obsessed with school days.
Bro, have you ever watched School Days?
School Days isn't moe, it literally ends with a double-murder-suicide beheading.
You don't know what moe means.
Isn't he out of jail?
I heard he did 6 years and got out in 2018 but vaguely remember something about him getting locked up again. Can't find anything about it though, so IDK.
He out of jail making vids again
https://www.youtube.com/@MadThad0890/videos
>Not knowing about Mad Thad
chris chan being free but thad still being in jail is the most evident proof of systemic racism I have ever seen
morons cost the state 5 times or more what a regular prisioner (doctors, nurses, facilities meds), its cheaper to release it and just send him his autist paycheck (so he pays his med bills himself) and wait for him to an hero
also he´s probably just a menace for himself or family, not the entire society like a true criminal
No. If people are interested in the design they'll just save it and commission someone to art with it. If you want an example, there's the Metroid series. Samus is at least the top 5 female game characters that everyone has cunmed too but the sales of the games would tell you other wise.
Manga is riddled with fanservice every way you look.
You tell me.
>dumb people buy Shit stories
I was going to ask if you're talking about cape comics, but no one buys those, so you couldn't be.
FRICK FRICK FRICK NEW 52
FRICK THEM FOR TAKING AWAY STARFIRE COSTUME
Gonna need the series and specific issue.
My guess is the Blackest Night Teen Titans mini.
