I suppose it's the sort of thing an MMA fan might also say. If an enemy is so much bigger and stronger than you that you find it's making it actually hard to damage them, please do not try to wrestle them.
Yes, he has combat training but he accels against other superhumans because of general experience, flight and extreme levels of strength means you fight differently, it's how he's beaten Batman with powers and an alien with similar powers who had been absorbing sunlight for longer
