They have, but they're very few compared to the generic hourglass bodytype ones. Falls into the designated ugly girl, I guess? Not exactly the same but close.

Is it just me or do I think the male cast designs in the OP are all shit? Being wacky isn't good and all of them being wacky means none of them stand out. Ironically, they became generic.

But they do the common anime thing where any toony design "was quite a looker" (generic template) when younger, or grows up into the generic template.

Yeah but the old and fat women fall also in their own same category, being exactly similarly ugly to the point they look like copy+paste, change place of one of those moles or whatever, move it from her cheek to her nose and call it a day

A lot of One Piece character designs are just jacked dudes. Why is that any different?

They're jacked dudes with radically different bodies and proportions. The hourglass picture is specially noticeable post-timeskip. Compare Nico and Nami before that, and Nico and Nami afterwards. Just look it up.

I was gonna agree but I really have a hard time thinking of a lot of shows that actually do that. Even forgetting that most shows lack a male cast that diverse in the first place.

That's really undercutting the crew, like if you boled it down to the Strawhats, sure you could say "it's predominantly lanklets and sexy women with the exceptions being literally inhuman" but froma wider perspective men are really all over the place, there's women too but to a lesser degree and Oda pretty unashamedly just likes that bodytype.

I think because there are jacked dudes of every ages, while in women they have the same houglass figure as long as they are young and becomes monsters when they get age

The "issue" is more so the imbalance, that male characters tend to get more unique character designs in comparison to the female characters.
If the creator makes all their males and females have a stock appearance, then that's not entirely relevant.

Because Sailor Moon was made by a woman and girls are bias for media created by their own and are fine with every character looking the exact same. But when a stinky PENIS OWNING boy makes sexy female characters, it’s objectification and male gaze-y.

You ever noticed not one woman will criticize something like Barbie or Bratz for having female characters that are all stocky bimbo types that look the same? It’s because they are hypocrites. Those franchises did more to make women look like objects than any horny guy drawing breasts on a mouse could do, Hell the Simpsons literally made an entire episode about it.

notice that the females of these animals don't look like sexy female humans but still look like their species?

          Refer to my post here

Male Gaze theory only exists because women are incapable of realizing that men liking attractive things is a basic part of human biology.

Notice how none of the women who seethe over sexy chicks complain about Bugs Bunny or Mickey Mouse not looking like the species they are based on? Because it would make their argument look moronic.

If female furries can’t be sexy, then Spongebob can’t wear clothes or work at a fast food job. He also can’t have a face either because real Sponges don’t have those.

you wanna know the funniest part? There was one race that did have more unified sex designs originally, where females were ugly like the males
But it turns out that female players kept complaining because they wanted their characters to be attractive
So the company redesigned the females to be more feminine in appearance

Don't know off the top of my head which race, but it always made me kek

There's also human females who can grow mustaches and human males who can have visibly bouncy boobs. Those are not the averages we're talking about when discussing general dimorphism across a species. Those are examples that use the average as a branch off point to explain WHY it's diverting from the usual.

So a reason for animal dimorphism is also so that females can hide better.

Males are all about "my genes are strong and dominant" because he will likely die soon if he can't get laid. The females need to live long enough to give birth, so their coloring won't be as vibrant and bulkier for harsher climates.

That's why mating pairs of birds tend to have less dimorphism because it's not about the looks, but the ability to raise a child together. Females and males will look nearly the same because they tend to never mate with any other partner if the other dies.

Character designers often just want to make sexy girl characters that they think is cute and appealing to play as.

Right, the trend is that these females of different species are looking humoid and sexually appealing to the average straight male demographic. That's not wrong, no one is saying it's wrong, just that it's funny and kinda dumb. Like how protagonists manage to always have the best luck when crowds of trained soldiers shoot at them, but for marketing to specific demographics. Enjoyers of all sorts of media see things like this and shrug or laugh, but with this one it really brings out the morons to tilt at purple haired dyke windmills.

Because monsterboys shouldnt fricking exist. The whole point of MGE shit is to fulfill sexual fantasies of males being desired, positively or negatively. The only reason secondary and tertiary media adds males at all is to try and make a functional fantasy setting where there simply isn't one. The only one that even approaches that angle half correctly is the brothel reviewers one, the rest just shouldnt have males. Frick even futa would fit more than monsterdudes.

The designs are "diverse" but they're still not good. They're just a shallow attempt at mixing up exaggerated anatomy instead building off actual characterization. Look at the powerpuff girls, Muriel Bagg, or Sandy Cheeks not only iconic in appearance but in behavior and personality.

It's certainly an example, but I'd say it's a bad one because it doesn't feature designs that not only defy the norm, but are also appealing.

Does that sound too picky? I think it's actually the THE MOST important part about this whole discussion, and examples like what you posted distract from it.

The reason why female shapes are less diverse isn't because it's difficult to come up with designs that are different -- it's because it's difficult to come up with designs that are different AND appealing.
We've got the "ugly-cool guys" mainstream aesthetics figured out. If someone had also figured out "ugly-cool girls" mainstream aesthetics, this thread would be dead.

Just throwing out any old wacky design is at best naïve, and at worst smugly sidestepping the difficult part of the design process. It gives people the wrong impression about why the issue exists and how it can be solved.

Complaining about something that's happened a few times compared to the vast majority of times it hasn't isn't a criticism or a statement, it just makes them look like they're whining about a problem that doesn't exist because they aren't creative enough to come up with other content. To not understand something so simple and straightforward depends upon a complete lack of self awareness and a brain.

Beardless dwarf females are a stupid fricking idea, and Dragon Age Origins was great for letting the men be clean shaven. If you really have to run with dwarfs taking great pride in their beards, have their women not shave their legs or armpits and make it a running gag that dwarf and human men think the other's women would be pretty hot if they just groomed themselves properly.

There's a funny bit about that. They announced the next expansion last month, and one of the features is a new subterranean dwarf civilization. Player characters of the race will finally be able to make bearded dwarf females, and naturally this made Cinemaphile very angry.

Progressives have their own reasons for disliking the bearded female dwarf concept. They want people to be able to recognize how much female representation their show has at a glance. Putting a woman in your show is useless if people can't immediately recognize that it is a woman and therefore female representation.

In my mind, dwarf women should only have beards if it's a "the races don't intermingle" setting. If it's some big city with a hodgepodge of races, or a multicultural society in general, every teen dwarf girl is almost certainly getting shamed into wanting to shave; being willing to keep your beard would be the equivalent of the "pan-African diaspora unity, grow out your dreads and afro as a political statement" types.

Certain beauty standards exist right now because of which culture is or was dominant. This also can change between nations. Japanese cultures used to say that women that looked like porcelain dolls was peak. Some African cultures thought that hourglass shaped women with thick birthing hips was peak beauty.

So in a fantasy setting, you get to decide which culture / species (If you're doing Star Trek "planet of hats" type writing) is the dominant one that decides the beauty standards. You could make it so the dwarves were conquesting little mother frickers who ruled most of the planet at some point. Maybe elves are the strongest and most influential and they think facial hair of ANY kind of disgusting, even on males whether it's dwarven or human.

            Anonymous

Exactly. If dwarfs took over, you could even see the other races adopting postiches. What I was getting at specifically is that, in a fairly even mix (say, trading town), I think the popular style would tend towards beardless women just out of the sheer number of races that already are.

Usually when bottom happens it’s low budget/flash animation and the male characters are all shaped like top third from the left. It’s done less because of sexism and more because of laziness or because the character artist can’t think of how to make an appealing character design without it literally looking like the type of person it’s meant for.

They're not "Barbie" though. They're fashionistas.

The problem with designing tiny fashion dolls though is not about it looking hot for adult men but that, especially when they were being created, making doll clothes was a pain in the ass. They made the dolls more exaggerated so they still had a feminine shape under the mostly chunky clothing. That's not as much of a problem anymore since the process of making the clothes is done by tiny Chinese children hands to get tiny stitches and details.

This, and it's not only for little girls; grown ass women all flock to the pretty cookie cutter girls too.

It's hard to lose weight and there is so much misinformation out there. People say to just eat 500 fewer calories but all that does is train your body to slow your metabolism. The best way to lose weight is to go on a fast but there are morons out there who scream "starvation mode". It's bullshit they also say you lose more muscle than fat which is also bullshit.

We live in a bad food environment where it's way too easy to get fat and we have junk information that makes losing weight super hard.

I feel bad for the fatties. We definitely need to educate people and change a few things in society at large. But the fat acceptance people are the biggest morons and deserve no sympathy.

i want to enjoy women wearing pretty dresses and feminine outfits, having compassion in their eyes, a heart that is fueled with sweetness and consideration of their actions and words, a figure and ability limit that comes from what sex they're supposed to be, i want to see them react in situations where women would, not a man. i want to like women characters as women characters, i want to root for and invest in them as women characters

Same. I mean yeah, that doesn't mean that the designs must all be the same for every female character, but I hate to see studios going out of their way to make female characters fugly because it's ''realistic''. I hate that the idea those companies have of a female character being strong is to make them behave and look like a man.

If you'd listen, instead of demonstrating your OCPD, you'd know it's about artistic integrity.

Take the Fates from Hercules for example. Traditionally they would be represented as a girl, woman, and crone.
But instead they created 3 different crones with completely different features.

                Anonymous

Hercules movie gets all the Titans wrong too. Funnily enough the shitty Hercules tv show Typhon looks closer to original Typhon than the movie version. Disney's approach to character design was simplistic designs highlighting the characters role or quirk in his appearance. So generally heroic characters you were supposed to relate with were physically fit and have large puppy eyes. Meanwhile villains often were slightly off, by being too thin, too fat, droopy eye sacks, tiny eyes etc. And short and fat characters were often the sidekicks or the humorous side characters. Very simple theatre logic at play.

The reason why you don't see that many funny fat ladies in media is because feminists would immediatly b***h about it. For some reason rainbow hairs think that if a female character is anything but perfect, it automatically depicts every woman in existence instead of just funny fat ladies. Men don't whine about stupid shit like that, so its way easier to make funny male characters of all shapes and sizes.

It kind of does happen. More often in videogames.
It happens in cartoons, in toy commercials, and so.
      Here for example:

It is what it is. Girls want to watch girls who are pretty. Boys don't want to watch ugly girls.
People are superficial. The designs can be boring and repetitive if you have the eyes to see the patterns. If you don't care about it then it won't bother you.

        >Girls want to watch girls who are pretty
This is important. Women often will make female characters pretty or play as samey cute girls in games. Men are much more willing to be weird or goofy looking. The hard truth is most women are boring.

Male Gaze theory only exists because women are incapable of realizing that men liking attractive things is a basic part of human biology.

Straight men aren't a hivemind, gay

That women must always have realistic body types and looks no matter what.

Women can have unrealistic body types without looking like Jessica Rabbit clones. Hell, the OP image doesn't even have any shortstacks or chicks with big boobs, but having sexy women look like clones is supposed to be what's insulting to men.

More prevalent long, long ago than today so I'd say it used to be but no longer is.
Every woman in The Flintstones and The Jetsons are identical to one another, for example, and most of the female characters of the crime-solving teens genre are, too. Weirdly, the originator (afaik) of the genre, Scooby Doo, actually has variation in their female characters but all the women from Josie, Jabber Jaw, Dune Buggie, Galloping Ghost (or whatever the one with the ghost character and his cat replacing Scooby was called) and more all look alike.
Cartoons from the later 80s onward have had real variation in the looks of the female characters with a few exceptions.

Scooby-Doo is a great example of character design diversity while still keeping the characters attractive. Even the shitshow that was Velma still had various appealing girls, but gaylords on Cinemaphile like to act that the only way for a woman to look different is for her to be, not even just a little thick or pudgy, but just full obese. Honestly, the fact that maybe we could have more athletic women, more disabled women, more lanky women, more tomboy and butches, none of that seems to be a possibility for Cinemaphiletards.

You guys are just obsessed with fat women, it's weird.

Not a question of "possible" but believable. Andromorphic characters need a lot of sexual dimorphism vs feral characters but even then you need to give the female long eyelashes and the like.

Normal women want pretty characters they can self insert into. It's fat women or insecure chestlets who want "diverse" female bodies because they have a bunch of self esteem issues they think they can resolve if only the rest of the world thought of them as being "just as cute" as the normal girls. It's making their delusions everyone else's problem. A few body variations done purely for fun is great, but look at every popular female franchise like Disney princesses or sailor moon. Look at your average cookie cutter instagram influencer. Look at every fricking woman having the same goddamn eyebrows right now. Women want to be pretty and fit in, not "be exceptional" or "stand out." This whole cultural anti-beauty-standards zeitgeist is just a massive attempt by abnormal women to make themselves feel on par with the normal women. Instead of going on a diet and hitting the gym, or learning to accept that chestlets are a niche taste, or accept that the way they want to look is abnormal and might repulse most people. Life ain't fair sometimes. Moms who had their bodies ruined by popping out 4 kids are typically the women who finally accept reality. Men used to be better on average at accepting it throughout history, but now even men are starting to pick up this female behavior and demanding things they think they deserve without actually putting in the effort to earn it. Men knew for eons that the hand we're dealt physically is absolute, and we just have to adapt if it's unconventional because malding about it is moronic when you have a life to live and people to support. Why's it so hard for western people in the modern day to just accept that standards will exist no matter what you do? You can never ever get rid of standards, only change them into something else. And there will always be a certain amount of people who don't fit those standards. Sorry, that's life. Don't piss yourself about it on the public stage, that's just a sad display.

The people who make these designs aren't even puritans. They're all "free-love" type individuals that actually believe removing the breasts makes a character design less sexual and more "diverse and body positive".

              Anonymous

              >"free-love"
that more implies they have an 'anything goes' kind of mindset, which means that women with a variety of chest sizes can co-exist in the same work
also tend to usually be guys
not a lot of those types around in the mainstream American industry these days

This what get me, there are so many fun ways you can play with huge breasts in your design, yet since breasts aren't kosher, you are severely limited in what you can do. So much for diversity.

This speaks to how the problem is as deep as your assumption with the image in OP. The original said that they don't like it when it happens. On the surface it's as deep as the opinion that women should be conventionally hot by human standards while men look different. If you're not of that opinion, cool.

            Anonymous

I think this is a reminder that a lot if people have a huge problem with OP pic issue because they're pedantic autists, not because they are SJWs or feminists. So bug women with breasts don't make sense because insects aren't mammals. This warrior woman should have more muscles. This character eats so much she shouldn't be skinny. Etc.

Others are fetishists. They want monster-like monster girls or musclegirls or fat girls to jerk it too.

            Others just think it's boring.

There are other reasons to not like it.

No, Cal-Arts characters are no where near that creative, in the 50's in an all male cartoon cast the females would be like that though (minus the ugly broad), usually as a joke near the end credits.

Asking for verity in female character designs that match their male counterparts is wrong because, apparently:

    >It's actually an evil attack on female beauty in itself to not have every character be porn bait or cute.
    >because the evil SJWs want to make all the beautiful women fat and ugly (fat because that's the only alternative to porn bait and cute, apparently).
    >A female character isn't "female" if she doesn't have an hourglass figure or an inoffensively mundane, cute look.

I'm sure I missed other counterarguments, but I genuinely struggle to take any of these seriously. All of this is just justifying lazy female character design by horny main artists.

Who's asking for "verity" in female character designs again? Do they spend money?

Women on average don't like characters who aren't conventionally cute. If pressed on the issue they pretend to be "woke" and "empowering" by supporting uggo characters, but they still go home and watch 5 hours of fashion and makeup tiktoks featuring only conventionally attractive instagram models who all look the exact same flavor of "pretty"

What are you gays not getting? There's a bunch of different ways for women to be cute and attractive; if frickers thought like you, we wouldn't get cute girls like Velma and Daphne because they're both attractive but they're not clones of each other.

And yet, girls love Daphne and Velma, which according to you is impossible because women hate variety.

Asking for verity in female character designs that match their male counterparts is wrong because, apparently:

Autism + sexism is a hell of a drug. "Fat phobia" shouldn't be a real thing but if the first thing you think of is My 600 lb Life when asked about designing women characters, then maybe you need to move out of the trailer park.

Velma isn't conventionally hot, she's a plain Jane nerd and not shaped like a model but she's still not

            A. Excessively obese
            B. Objectively "ugly"

Sure, you may not find her attractive, but you don't need to find every single character in every show attractive because maybe someone else will.

A lot of designers are operating off the assumption that men will only like female characters if they're hot, which is fair- but they think that means they should make all their characters conventionally hot. The truth is that men will find them hot no matter what if the show is fun to watch and you should just go nuts

Yeah, Eizouken is a great example of character design variety and Cinemaphiletards would lose their shit if it was Western, according to half of this thread.

            >until now

Anon, Velma has been the most popular plain Jane with girls way before the Internet became commonplace in the 2000s. Plus, her style and looks was clearly based off popular 60s styles since, you know, that's when Scooby-Doo came out, so frumpy 60s girls were already self-inserting into her.

It's because they don't want to agree, they want to discredit because to accept the premise is to start to see why they would have a problem with it. It would mean that what you like has an element of triteness to it. There wouldn't be a problem if it was pointed out and celebrated, but instead there's an element of criticism that can be dismissed as someone getting upset at gore in a horror film. If someone says "I don't like this" the answer should be "okay cool" but Cinemaphile is full of autists.

Male characters get Unique designs because males are the target demographic for most things, successful shows are all made by men, and doing to much with women in any direction is a lose/lose situation. Too pretty? Sexist. Too ugly? Misogynist. Distinct features? Fetish pandering. Liking girly things? Stereotyping. Not liking girly things? "write a man, call it a woman." Just as in real life, there are not allowed to be good women characters because real women hate each other and themselves.

From a writing standpoint, women are side characters and if they are the main character it's because they're acting like a man, and that turns into the entire story.

      >successful shows are all made by men

Males and females don't like the inconsistent design in cartooning. Even John K does it and he's an advocate for cartoons cartoons. He also declared "I make cartoons for MEN!!" and that's fine, but it highlights why this happens, who is being pondered to. And pandering is fine and it's fine to not like this kind of pandering, male or female, straight or gay.

People like seeing attractive characters and it turns out there is basically a universal standard of attractiveness regarding women. Who knew?

      Anonymous

With men it's not about being attractive, it's about having character. Mario isn't a short fat plumber because women find that hot, it's because men can easily relate and the charm of an average working man is more universal than a short fat average working woman. A pretty princess is also more generally appealing.
