I am married. We were both each other's first so I admit I can't relate completely, but she is family now. Secondly, you've had the education to interpret relationships as they are and what things you need to do to ensure you're own personal happiness. As messed up as this sounds, people don't really think twice about the person they're in love with. Take paternity tests for example, I've talked with many women that are fine with provided it's a topic broached before they give birth and with good reason because you are essentially displaying your lack of trust. Once that reason is supplied you can test them, they won't mind and I know this for a fact because one of the girls I knew uni actually took it to put her husband at ease. But to know how to screen for a good partner, that's the test the majority fail so please, revel in your good fortune for having found the one.

Not giving up on life, I am giving up on relationships which when you see things from my perspective isn't the same. I feel a deep sense of love for her but the emotions regarding the matter haven't changed a bit. Putting another woman through that just to assuage my own shame would go beyond hypocrisy. Don't feel bad for being harsh, I don't think I deserve love. I feel like I deserved my bad childhood. I am looking into foster care at the moment, will turn 40 in a few years so I owe it to society to give at least one underprivileged child a chance at a proper life.

Yes she was my first. I have problems compartmentalizing sex and I was poor for a very long time so I purposefully didn't pursue any relationships because of that reason. When she came into my life we were quick to establish boundaries and we had a frank discussion about our pasts because that's how I perceive intimacy.
