So did they just recycle stinky Pete’s motivation with Lotso.

Lotso was obsessed with having the favor of children, and set himself up for an eternal cycle of play with a revolving door of kids.
Pete was hardened by a lifetime of no one wanting him, and wants nothing to do with the standard toy life cycle of store shelf to landfill. He has no perspective on the positive side of having a kid in his life, and chooses self preservation through the museum.

Being afraid of being abandoned or destroyed is one thing, causing others to suffer with you is another.

like woody said, living in a glass display case to be stared at by children without ever being played with isnt exactly much better

How is a complete set of woody and his crew so rare, if supposedly it was so popular in its prime

It wasn't until the 1980s that collecting (and preserving) toys became big and mainstream, and it was mainly things like Transformers and Star Wars that jumpstarted it, toys before then were far too similar to dolls

Why is Action Comics #1 so rare when Superman is so popular?

I mean toys aren’t made of paper like a comic is to be fair.

despite its popularity, the show fizzled out before it even finished its episode order
so no one even remembers the toys, much less realize their value

He has a point though. Superman was massively popular back in the 30's and 40's with vast amounts of merchandise which is very difficult to find these days.

A further point you may find interesting Action Comics #1 had a sweepstakes page where you were supposed to color and then tear out and send to their office to win a prize. That happened to be the back side of the last page of Superman's story.

Comics were supposed to be read and thrown away back then. Which was fair enough since it was over 60 pages for 10c ($2.20 today) and could be found at any newsstand. Now they're charging at least $3.99 for 22 pages of content. No wonder western comics are dying. It's a total scam

                >direct marketing method means smaller sales to a smaller fanbase
                >glossy paper and actually good inking
                >actually paying their artists and writers
only way comics could continue to be made in the supermarket and barbershop method would be to go full archie

I know all the reasons but that doesn't make it worthwhile for the consumer. Action Comics used to sell well over a million each month. What does it do now, 30k?

No, they're made of plastic, wood and felt and swung around by kids through puddles and sandboxes you gigantic frick knuckle.

Didn't the 4th movie prove him and Lotso right though?

There is no 4th movie in the Toy Story series. There won't be a 5th one either.
