It's just about the absurdity of dealing with existential anxiety as a teenager and all the bullshit that goes on in highschools. Just because you got filtered doesn't mean it's a conspiracy against you.

It's the movie you enjoy twice.
Once when you watch it, and secondly when you watch the morons seethe because it threatened their intelligence.

favourite movie when I was an edgy 14 year old, literally watched it back to back since I liked it so much.

Too bad it completely solidified my personality as an angsty wet blanket. Haven't seen since a teen, would probably enjoy it now for very different reasons

Hollywood discovered he's too devout of a Christian and didn't want impressionable minds corrupted by the tenets of Christianity. Kind of like king Mel.

The parallel universe was created by God (Frank) to show Donnie he was and is loved before he meets his ordained end. This is proven by deleted the deleted scene of Donnie sleepwalking at the golf course and Donnie asks Frank why the world will end and Frank replies that God loves his children. Richard Kelly is a devout Christian as well. You're welcome.

Please explain the parallel universe. I didn’t realize there was a parallel universe in this movie.

        Anonymous

Basically the parallel universe is the entire movie post the airplane crashing into his bedroom, and at the very end Donnie accepts his fate and lays down in the bed after the time loop and it kills him this time. It's been a while but I think the parallel universe was doomed to be destroyed and so the only way to save everyone was to die when he was supposed to and merge both universes.

donnie doesnt need to die. he just needed to send the engine back and make it have a reason to exist. he dies because frank didnt lure him away this time and he had no idea

The movie is confusing at best. I've seen it probably 5 or 6 times. It's an alright movie but like what is the fricking plot? I've read online theories but they all take leaps. I hate when filmmakers just put a bunch of weird shit in their movie and then go "figure it out" without an actual clear vision in mind.

?t=1m14s. This deleted scene will reveal what it's about: God creating a parallel universe just for Donnie to prove he is loved and to open his death, rather than fear, with welcome arms.

        >Deleted scene explains the entire movie
        I seriously doubt this.
        >God loves his children. I brought you out here to save you
This also fits in with the whole theory that the storm in the plane caused a rift in the space time creating a time paradox and Donnie is tasked with forcing the events of the movie to take place to have the plane take off and complete the time circuit.
Truth is this movie is a bunch of random shit and you have to make up a story to have it make any sense.

Your theory also completely disregards all the talk about time travel in the movie.

I knew a plebbit atheist cuck would come along and protest against the creator's intent and replace it with his own interpretation because he can't handle that his favourite movie is religious. Lmao.
          >the storm in the plane caused a rift in the space time creating a time paradox
Wtf even is this pseudo-intellectual shit lmao. Go buy the anniversary bluray and read the book materials provided with it.

            >atheist
I don't see how you got that from my post at all. Your argument is moronic and you resort to name calling. Donnie Darko is no where near my favorite movie. I think it's okay in terms of themes and acting and dialogue, but stupid in terms of plot and there simply isn't enough detail in the movie to draw anything concrete.

The fact that you think I'm an atheist because I don't buy your schizo movie interpretation that ignores 50% of the movie should show you how delusional you are. I'm not an atheist.

Oh my God! Not name-calling! Reeeeee hahaha. You talk and space like a fricking redditor you moron.
              >I don't buy your schizo movie interpretation
Mines from the creator, where's yours from? moron. Cursory research into Richard Kelly would enlighten you on his religious beliefs and their representation in his movies, especially DD.

I didn't say this movie had nothing to do with God. I'm saying your theory that the movie is about "The parallel universe was created by God (Frank) to show Donnie he was and is loved before he meets his ordained end" is not provable given the movie and it's simply your interpretation.

                >character literally tells Donnie the world will end on x date (the collapse of the parallel universe back to the primary) because God loves his children
How much do you need it spelled out to you, moron? This discussion was had 19 fricking years ago upon the DVD release. I'm terribly sorry you missed the imdb threads and other discussions, but you're wrong. Deal with it, shithead.

I kinda like it but it makes zero sense unless you read the philosophy of time travel thing that was on the official website, or watch the director's cut that includes excerpts from it

    >all the time travel shit is based on the fact that the object in question (in this case the airplane) is going the speed of light
    >planes can't go the speed of light

where the hell did you get that from? the philosophy of time travel says that water and metal are the key components of time travel. it says nothing about the speed of light.

the simple explanation is the simulation has a glitch and the jet engine from the future appears.. so donnie has to fix it by killing a rabbit so the rabbit can save him fomr the engine and help him send it back and close the loop
