It has been talked about here, it gets a lot of flak for Doug having wild imaginative scenarios play out. But I'm guessing those people don't think about situations or outcomes and don't have an internal voice in their heads. Overall it's a decent show classic nicktoon. Halloween episode was dope.
>it gets a lot of flak for Doug having wild imaginative scenarios play out
????
The problem with the imagination sequences is that's the only place the really goofy stuff happens but by definition it doesn't effect the story because it's not real. The formula of Doug encountering a mild problem, worrying too much, but ultimately taking mild action to solve the problem is a little bland.
Doug going full Chris-chan and being unable to blur the line between his daydream fantasies and reality, and just going through life thinking he is Quail Man/Smash Adams/Race Canyon would have made the show so much better.
>No, it would've made it pathetic
It's already pathetic. The show has no hook. No real conflict. More than half the time the problem of the episode just goes away on it's own. Doug will be in the middle of a full panic attack and you're just thinking that everyone else probably already forgot what they were talking about before the next class bell.
I spend way too much time playing out situations in my head and I still thought Doug sucked. The show was just boring as hell most of the time, too normal and down-to-earth compared to shows like Ren & Stimpy, Rugrats, and Rocko's Modern Life.
it is / was actually. I would argue, given the explosion of outright and quasi-SOL cartoons about school-age kids in the 90s Doug is actually the most influential cartoon of the decade.
Lloyd in Space is pretty similar to Doug in all honesty, just with a little bit of wackiness turned up. Arthur too considering it had the same writers. The image is also like 15 years old now so whatever infallible genius came up with it can't explain his own reasoning anymore.
I think it's kind of crazy looking back and thinking about how Doug was for a time one of the biggest cartoons on TV, to the point that basically anyone that grew up in that era can remember the characters and some of the more popular elements like songs by the Beets. Hell everyone I know still knows exactly what you mean if you say "THERE'S A BOMB IN THE LASAGNA". It feels so mundane by today's standards but it really struck a chord with the early - mid 90s zeitgeist, to the point that Disney spent millions acquiring the property.
Doug threads always devolve into weird ass creepypasta like posts. It's actually quite impressive.
Here is what I remember from the show...
Doug has a super hero alt, reminds me of Chris Chan a bit. Likely autistic.
Neematoads.
Skeeter is back coded.
Judy is some arty farty personality.
Very expensive Douglas...he's be like closing in on 80 now...
okay, that's the greatest doug fan comic ever
Do you guys think he quietly seethes about patti and dougs relationship?
I dunno, he's got Beebe going after him.
Doug and patti have a relationship
tbh even if the creator says it wont happen it really does seem like she also has a crush on him at least a little
yes. he does. he literally yawns when he talks mushy to patti
No, because they canonically never get together. Jenkins has already said that Doug eventually gets together with Connie.
When did he say Doug gets with Connie?
He vaguely implied it in the same interview, I think. Doesn’t name names, but considering Connie’s the only prominent girl left…
If Doug’s lucky, she will be.
Is she fat again?
Skeeter has the rich bawd going for him.

will doug ever escape the fricking chrischan comparisons?
No, it would've made it pathetic. That's why post-classic seasons Chris Chan sucks. The Tomgirl arc onwards ruined everything.

So, a Slice-of-Life show?
Frick off oney
>bro what if chrischan?
To which I say as always, remember when Doug fantasized about losing a bodybuilding competition to his dog?
And I posted the wrong one. Early morning posting, I tell ya.

comfy show

Whos the most kino
skeeter is so glorp norp like ziggity doodah kapow yknow
The fourth season focuses less on Doug and more on his interactions with the other characters.
Disney ruined it.
this is not real i refuse to believe it this isnt real
What would have happened if he got her pregnant when they were both kids/teens
>WOW FUNNIE YOU REALLY SCREWED IT UP THIS TIME HOW CAN YOU GET OUT OF THIS ONE HUH?
I like the idea of Roger fricking with Doug no matter what he does. Poor hopeless Doug
he would be the talk of the town
Her cripple dad would’ve wheeled her to the abortion clinic.
But would he be man enough to beat Doug with a cane or one of these things?
>Patti are you insane do you really think you and doug could afford a child? what about your sports dreams
>NOT TO WORRY MR MAYO I HAVE A BRAND NEW INVENTION TO SOLVE DOUGS ISSUE
>ITS CALLED THE COAT HANGER
That doesn't sound very expensive...
It’s forged from pure platinum.
oh no
The child comes out green
Doug would only dream about getting Patti pregnant
>no one posted it yet
>Patti actually fricking Doug or even getting drunk in his vicinity
Lol.
Learning Doug and Arthur had the same writers was a big breakthrough in discovering why I never liked Arthur

Well shit, news to me.
I've always thought the characters in Doug felt more like middle schoolers than elementary schoolers.
Same with Hey Arnold.
They're 6th graders, so pretty close. I agree though, especially with episodes like Doug going on a sorta date with Patti.
Yeah I could never understand why they had lockers when my elementary school didn’t it confused me when I was little.

It's the most okayish show ever made.
Where does Unified Doug Theory fit into the Doug Scale?
The only show on that chart anywhere near similar to Doug is Pepper Ann. And no having the setting being a school doesn't make a show Doug-like

Yeah, it’s a bizarre mix of mundane and unforgettable.
Doug is such a pathetic loser
