RoF. I suppose. Back in the days, even when he was lazy, he ended up being creative, he's just a brilliant artist. One can see it even up until BoG; that movie in general is a promise never fulfilled, mostly because Super went in the direction of RoF. And RoF itself is irredeemable, it has a plot of a 90s DBZ movie, but it's drawn out over twice its length, the final battle is between recolors, and before that it's just 20 minutes of fodder with only one unique minion. And on top of that, the fights lack any good choreography or quirks. None of the magic of the old DB, just the laziest possible rehash. Though in Daima it appears he's at least trying to do something even if it's controversial. People see it as GT rehash, but in reality it's shaping up to be more of a Buu saga sequel but completely different. Maybe the old man's truly back.
That's honestly what Daima is. You could say this about Broly or Super Hero. But Daima is going against the grain, He could have made it much lazier, just reuse another popular movie villain or even Freeza and do another recolor movie. But it;s clear that this time he's doing what he wants to do and because he wants to do it. Whether it ends up as bad as fans seem to be expecting or it denies their expectations, Toriyama is without a doubt TRYING this time.
No one hates Dragonball more than Dragonball fans >NOO why is the main character getting all the focus? >NOOO how come the irrelevant human characters dont get more screen time?! >NOOO Dragonball should have ended with king Piccolo!! >NOO it should have ended with Frieza! >NOOO it should have ended with Cell!!! >NOOO GT sucks! >NOO Super sucks!! >NOOO why isn't Gohan the main character??? >NOOO why can’t Vegeta save the day??!
And yet you all still watch. What do you guys actually like about Dragonball?
Every Dragonball thread is the same shit and you know it. Which is why your response is "Noooo people like different things Dragonball fans aren't cancer noooo!"
When he brought Goku back as the MC in the buu arc. There was literally no reason for Toriyana not to continue his Gohan plan. >Even if Gohan is too boring if a protagonist, you still had Goten to take over. >Goten, a kid who who likes fighting and was taught by Chichi herself. >On top of that, he has a friendship with Trunks that could’ve been more akin to Goku and Vegeta’s. >He also has double the potential too btw
But instead what do we get? A fricking awful and useless character who serves even less purpose than Chaiotzu. >oh b-but he doesn’t HAVE to be a fighter!!! He just wants to live a normal life and be a shitty yamcha!! (even though fricking yamcha is more dignified than this useless jobber.)
Yeah but we already got Gohan for that, having ANOTHER son of Goku just wanting to live a normal life is redundant.
Dragon ball set that formula. Protag is an imbecile with 0 sexual drive and has annoying, loud personality while rival/rivals are cool, edgy and smart.
As much as I love Buu Saga, and I do like Buu Saga, I think because he constantly had to be bopped in the head and reminded that he's writing a story and not a gag manga anymore he lost his interest in Dragon Ball, especially his editors kept switching up. With Frieza and Cell Saga he just went too far, too fast and without thinking, but at some point had a moment of clarity that he's not the same person who wrote those anymore. It was fun while it lasted, but he likes writing sitcom comedy and gags more than he likes action and story.
After Battle of the Gods. He made that for a reason, DB needed to be redeemed after DB Evolution. Everything after that is a soulless cashgrab. I don't think Toriyama gets why people are still demanding new DB. But if they want it, he's willing to provide any slop they'll eat.
>Dragon Ball once became a thing of the past to me, but after that, I got angry about the live-action movie, re-wrote an entire movie script, and now I'm complaining about the quality of the new TV anime, so it seems that DB has grown on me much that I can't leave it alone. >Akira Toriyama - 30th Anniversary Dragon Ball Super History Book
I like Toryama & he doesn't seem to take his stuff seriously which is fine my me. I think it might help him if he stratified his stuff though. Let Gohan & Piccolo, Trunks, & Goten take over in a series about protecting the Earth & being a goofy superman parody, where half the show is slice of life stuff.
Let Goku, Vegeta, Broly & such have arcs dealing with cosmic level shit.
Have a martial arts focused series with Krillin & Tien teach a new wave of kids martial arts & doing low powered tournaments.
Occasionally mix it up.

You wouldn't think so. I can't tell you how many times, thousands, probably, I've read things to the effect of "Dragon Ball/Goku/Vegeta got me into lifting/martial arts", but it boggles my mind to read this. Are they just morons ?
since he made frieza exactly one gorillion times stronger than the previous villain. no, since raditz was that much stronger than king piccolo and all would have been lost if he arrived one year earlier. frankly the moment saiyans became a thing and son goku stopped being son goku
Everyone should know that Dragon Ball was basically just an accident. Toriyama wanted to write a goofy manga that combined Journey to the West and Hong Kong martial arts movies. Then it got incredibly popular and he made the manga more action-oriented. Every interview with Toriyama shows that he doesn't really give a shit at all about his wealth and fame. He just likes sitting home in his Adidas track suits never having having to work again and cooming all day to old porno magazines. He regularly forgets key moments in the Dragon Ball universe and even entire characters. He's not some kind of mastermind who made Dragon Ball as a passion project, it was all incidental to him. So when did Toriyama stop caring? More like, when did he start?
>At what point did he stop trying and decided to become a total hack?
Buu Saga. Neanderthals chimpout because of the Goku/Vegeta fights but they make more sense with Gohan in place of Goku.
Funnily enough, he is trying more than ever with this new Baby Dragon Ball show, which really just proves the idea that Toriyama never cared about the action in Dragon Ball that everyone loves. He likes naked women and potty humor, that is his true calling in life.
He stopped trying after freeza and goku Ssj. After that he started doing stupid nonsense like time travel and androids and super sayan evolutions and pink wizard villain who turns people into chocolate. Everything after Nammek is nonsense and only the GT people were able to curse correct a tiny bit and bring a little soul back to the franchise before the Suppa fricks obliterated it again. Now we are at the bottom with baby dragon ball garbage.
>"toriyama doesn't care! toriyama stopped caring at (insert arbitrary point in time here)! Toriyama is a hack that doesn't know how to write!" >android saga had interference from his editors, with every swerve he was forced to add he handled them all wonderfully, nothing feels bad or disjointed >buu saga was a different story, he was given free reign and just did whatever he wanted, even then the buu saga is full of some of the best moments in the series and never feels as terrible as people make it out to be in the manga >battle of gods, broly and super hero are all the most highly regarded films in the franchise, each of them had direct involvement front toriyama >super sucked because all he did was give notes and no other direction >daima has toriyama more directly involved than even the movies >people think it will suck
When a mangaka starts writing a story, he knows that if it becomes a commercial success he will likely have to adapt, make the story longer, change things, etc. They work with that in mind, so it's irrelevant to say Dragon Ball wasn't meant to end up like this or that he wanted to end the series at a certain point.
Dragon Ball is one of the most successful japanese manga and animation series of all time, immensely influential and will be remembered long past Toriyama's death.

Pretty sure Cell saga was supposed to be the end but it was raking in too much money for it to stop. I'm pretty sure there was a report or interview or something about it.

he made some designs on a napkin, gave 3 plot points and left, super is 85% toei

Dragon Ball is ridiculously overblown. So is One Piece and Naruto. Get some taste

Resurrection F is a fricking joke.

Holy frick, stop the presses!
the character interactions
he clearly still gave a shit during frieza
After Goku beat Piccolo Jr. he stopped caring about the story.
Early DBZ > Dragonball > Late DBZ > ToP Super > GT > Rest of Super

Why are all Shonen protags a bunch moronic inbreds?
Their rivals are all better characters

I think it's funny how fans give so much significance to Evolution despite it being a low-budget movie that nobody watched it

I would 100% support him making a series with legit nudity & raunchy humor if they animated it
is there any pictures of him that isn't this one from the 80's?

Mr. Satan is the only part that was goofy. Otherwise it's everyone thinking they are gonna die/be eaten.
