Super didn't just try to be previous Dragon Ball, it's just continued with the formula l, the only thing ever near that you can claim is how much it panders, like Frieza coming back wasn't a whole arc in Z, it was plot point, and plot point that got taken care of comically easy, and fast, mostly to show off how strong the new character was.
Maybe you can argue Super Hero kinda does things similar to the android, and cell sagas, like Goku being in dispose, but it still feels different enough not to be a clone, unlike GT with making Goku a kid, and even having him wear blue like he did in DB.

When did this happen before? The tournament in DB were entertaining, and the contestants were interesting, or funny/entertaining at the very least, well the first one. The 2nd tournament in DB introduced tien, with him being a serious threat (god I miss that), and the final one introducing Piccolo (Jr.). I don't think I'd fight you too hard on saying that the tournament in Z was boring, with the main cast (beside Videl) not really facing any challenge, other than other main characters. The issue with the tournament in Super isn't "bland as frick" characters, besides Universes 6, 7, and 11 (ignoring Jiren), all the characters were goofy looking jobbers.
The shit with the Tuffles revenge, and some kind of cosmic punishment for abusing the Dragon Balls are interesting concepts, but GT just didn't do a good job.

Super didn't just try to be previous Dragon Ball, it's just continued with the formula l, the only thing ever near that you can claim is how much it panders, like Frieza coming back wasn't a whole arc in Z, it was plot point, and plot point that got taken care of comically easy, and fast, mostly to show off how strong the new character was.
Maybe you can argue Super Hero kinda does things similar to the android, and cell sagas, like Goku being in dispose, but it still feels different enough not to be a clone, unlike GT with making Goku a kid, and even having him wear blue like he did in DB.
But outside of Broly being a strong Saiyan baby, banished/gotten rid of, the plots seem different enough. There also the upside of this Broly having an actual personality/being an actual character.

When did this happen before? The tournament in DB were entertaining, and the contestants were interesting, or funny/entertaining at the very least, well the first one. The 2nd tournament in DB introduced tien, with him being a serious threat (god I miss that), and the final one introducing Piccolo (Jr.). I don't think I'd fight you too hard on saying that the tournament in Z was boring, with the main cast (beside Videl) not really facing any challenge, other than other main characters. The issue with the tournament in Super isn't "bland as frick" characters, besides Universes 6, 7, and 11 (ignoring Jiren), all the characters were goofy looking jobbers.
The shit with the Tuffles revenge, and some kind of cosmic punishment for abusing the Dragon Balls are interesting concepts, but GT just didn't do a good job.

GT was bad for many reasons. The 1 good thing it did was SSJ4's design. And Pan wasn't a bad character. But other than that, it was a tough watch, and I never got far into it. Goku being a a kid was mostly a neutral matter.
