512GB? Gee mister, thats like 12 blurays on a phone! >then dont use plex
glad we agree on the issue. use jellyfin instead and stream to your phone for free.
I don't get it, how about just using a usb stick?
Like just put 50 movies on a stick at the beginning of the month instead of keeping your computer on to stream your own content.
>A friend once asked me to watch a video with her that she was going to display on her computer using Netflix. I declined, saying that Netflix streaming was such an affront to freedom that I could not be party to its use under any circumstances whatsoever.
>Jellyfin
does that work on an smart tv or is it just your run of the mill autismal freetroony shit where everything half-works and it's overly complex for the sake of being complex?
Get an android tv, you can sideload pretty much anything on them
I have fricking vidaa which has like ten apps and you are stuck with them forever. Thankfully one of them is plex
>Get an android tv
maybe next one I'll consider, not switching tv just to use specific software
>set it up once on your server/nas >set your kino directory >organise them however autistically you do or don't want to >done
only thing you have to do is open some ports on your router if you want to share it with other people. but each to their own.
this reads like your usual fretroony tricks to be honest >"dude seriously it's super easy, just AS good and free :)" >it's mediocre at best
I'll give it a try some day though
also I use that "watch together" thing from plex a lot, which is kinda easy to set up
no sub required, but I'm considering going lifetime because I use this shit a lot

I tried every alternative to Plex, frankly they were all shit.
I just paid the lifetime subscription fee for like $75 once and don't have to ever think about it again.
of all the things that will make a woman's pussy make the old windows shutting down sound, I don't think my Jellyfin server is at the top of that list.
kek I haven't seen that gif in years. based oldgay
I made that gif - or rather, I edited in a new banana over top of a previous crappier version somebody else made. Seeing it gave me flashbacks to when I used to come to Cinemaphile of my own volition, because it was fun and different from the rest of the internet and mostly free of social/political drama. Thanks.
It's just shilling, trolling, and/or contratianism. The only time this meme is true is if you're pulling out the HDMI cable to plug your piece of shit chrome book in so that you can watch a streaming site that you found on Yandex and every 20 minutes you have to switch the server because it stopped loading.
If you're a chad with an airgapped home media server and an extensive library of torrented kino (aka everything you can possibly find a torrent of since you have the disk space and you might as well go nuts) she will probably make you cum in her multiple times before the film is over
Glad I'm married kek single guys have it rough out there. I would consider this a gift that a shallow, materialistic-even-for-a-woman type just self filtered out of my life. b***hes like this are a lost cause and will only drag you down in life even if they're just a frick buddy.
I actually like some romcoms even if the story is always the same dumb shit >gigachad with loads of money and can speak 18 different languages has minor flaw >woman rebuffs him over minor flaw >over course of the movie he redeems himself >they all lived happily ever after

I mean beat you as in domestic violence, not at arm wrestling. They throw down that challenge as a psyche and then start throwing fists and objects at your head until you foetal position up, then they blame you for causing the fight. What do you do then? Help me, please.
4tb is baby tier anon. Drives aren't super expensive right now. Go get yourself a pair of 16s. Or at least a couple 8tbs. Shouldn't cost more than $100 each and one of them can hold around a 1000-1500 movies, if you aren't a bd gay
what's the quality like on a scale of yify to full bluray rip? I'd be tempted to subscribe to a service like that if the quality is decent enough. there's only so much I can store on my own media server.
My bad. I'd say better than any streaming service and as good as any local media. All depends on internet speed I suppose. Some servers are better than others.

cheers that answers it a bit better. like the other anon said 1080p can look like ass still. I'm just wondering if it's worth the convenience of having streaming rather than having to find downloads myself. the benefit of finding it myself of course being I can pick the quality usually.

No problem. There's so many out there, so there's bound to be some shitty ones. The good ones will do free trials so you can test it out for a day or two.
I live in a non-english speaking country
Hows the subs options anon,? If you tell me they have the same native subs that comes from whatever service they are ripping, then I'll pay for it
If I have to manually search for third party subs then nah
Wait, you pay the server owners? Wtf, wonder how much they're making. Can I also get rich off morons paypigging to use a server they could just do themselves for free?
Keep quiet pussy drier, women hate setting up the language for any subbed media. I got a blow job for setting up vlc subtitles on track 2 automatically
>be me, invite girl over >ask her what she wants to watch, she says Frozen >instantly torrent from my phone and upload it to my plex server >tell her it's my own personal Netflix, she loves it >mfw she holds her cute little body close to mine as we cuddle and watch Frozen
4k movies are tough, it can either be an upload speed bottleneck, download speed bottleneck, CPU bottleneck on server, CPU bottleneck on device you are trying to play it on, you trying to play it over wifi and so on, you have to have a better than average setup for it
4k is a bit of a nightmare. 9/10 it's a problem with the player not supporting something in the 4k source file. The Plex windows client is most reliable and native TV apps are second best. Apple TV app also pretty good. Browser or androidor old TV, forget it. Truehd audio seems to be one common format in 4k content that screws up players all the time. Use the dashboard now playing screen to diagnose if anything is being transcoded, and understand the difference between direct play and direct stream.
I have it working most of the time across my home network but I've given up sharing out 4k content to friends because the amount of support they need to get it working is a nightmare.
It's true.
I spent hours categorizing my media library and assigning cover art and backgrounds for all my stuff and my girlfriend could not even begin to give a shit. Even the stuff I added for her like Scrubs and whatever. I was like >Look here's how you assign a different cover for each season.
She seemed mildly interested at the time but it's been months and she's barely used the feature. Literally just content to have >Love.Actually.HD-subs.MP4.LMAO.avi
As the in app title and no cover art.
Then always spends 5 minutes trying to find it every time because it's not matched and not in order and there's no thumbnail and....AAAAHHHH!
Why are women like this bros?
it's because you told her too much about it. there's a reason official streaming services don't allow cool features like customization because normies are confused by it. you should have just said >it's like Netflix but better
Your gf is an apple user and you are a linux user.
Quit your shit she WILL NOT get into it, I get it that women are dumb, but you are dumber for not realizing this obvious fact
I like Plex but anything above 720p stutters when i stream from my PC to my TV over my local WiFi network, pretty sure it's not my PC or TV that is the bottleneck since CPU/GPU usage while streaming is pitiful, and my TV never had problems streaming Netflix in 4k
I wish there was a way to stream from PC to my TV over my local network but 720p is not acceptable for me so i am stuck having to transfer shit to my external HDD and manually plug it into my TV
I remember being shown this tech when I was applying to college 15 years ago, and it seemed insanely dumb back then and now you can just buy them and it works
>They're slow as frick btw, even wifi is better
that might actually be true thinking about it if your house has super old wiring in it. a modern house will be fine.
If there was enough wifi range nobody would bother with them in the first place.
Also 100 mbps is enough for most use cases, and it certainly is better than no internet at all or dropping connection all the time
I have one of them in an extension with my ISP router and it works fine.
But this house is relatively new, and the wiring appears to be decent so that might be it.
It really depends on the quality of the wiring in your house, what you have them plugged into, and if they're on the same circuit phase.
They work great in my house and while they're not as fast as my home wifi, they're definitely more stable. OTOH, they're a mixed bag when used at my parents' house and perform like shit when they have certain lights on.
I run a literal toaster and plex works fine. Use ethernet for your PC, dude. Run a cable down the side of your house, it's a 2 dollar drill bit and a 10 dollar bit of cable.
I don't understand. Sure, the "lemme plugin my laptop and fiddle with the audio for 30 minutes" is not a good look. But Jellyfin, Plex or even osmc's user experience is almost indistinguishable from Netflix and friends.
dont know what any of the shit in this thread means. been using piratebay since 2005 and never stopped. if it's something obscure with no seeds, I use downloadhelper on 123movies. never 'streaming' anything because it's not as comfy as downloading it first. I'll never buffer a movie, and I'll never half it stop on me due to outages.
i don't care for change and I refuse to.
hi, me again.
I forgot to mention that anything over 480p quality looks like shit. especially TV, which is supposed to be a cold medium. high definition is for the birds.
thanks
I use plex to stream stuff I downloaded from the bay or whatnot to my TV because it's more convenient and faster than copying to USB HDD, and if there is some compatibility issue (because Samsung is moronic) it will also reencode it on the fly.
And since I'm not a native speaker I like having english subtitles, Plex handles that as well.
hi, me again.

thanks
sorry, it's me again
I'm trans btw, not sure if that matters.
I use this to seamlessly watch my porn collection from anywhere in the world. It's pretty dope knowing no matter where I go I have access to 5 TB of carefully curated porn at my disposal.
You download a program to your pc which starts a media server
You can give it a folder to scan your movie files
Then you can use the app to connect to it
It functions like Netflix but its your pirated movies
I can only imagine people here don't own homes with multiple people using different devices. I have plex running on a NAS so that I can stream my shows to any of our 3 TV's, phones, desktop, laptop... copying files to physical devices is for plebs.
What do you spend your free time doing? Posting on Cinemaphile? Is that better for your "behavioral programming"?
I just like watching muh movies. No, it hasn't really made me stop being racist or start liking israelites. It's just entertainment. If it is some subversive programming, it must not be working too well.
weird you'd think that. out of my friends the only one with a well paying job and a qt polish wife is a college professor who runs a 60TB plex server for all his friends. He's got about 50 users linked to it and a plex request website where you just select a show and his setup will go out to all the places he sets and start to automatically add episodes or movies. It's really cool. The rest of us are just a bunch of single nobodies.
except when theres a specific movie your gf wants to watch that isn't on netflix or hulu so you bust this out and she thinks you're some kind of wizard.
You can run it on Windows too anon, it's easier to setup on there than on a Linux virtual machine, I only did it that way to I can provision it in an autistic way.
i got a fire tv stick cause my tv is a bit old and getting apps on it is a pain in the ass but it doesnt find my jellyfin server so i gave up
jellyfin is a server
you install it on your NAS (or, wherever your media is actually stored)
you only need a client on your firestick
and it doesn't need to be jellyfin itself
kodi can be pointed at a jellyfin server
or even at a plain fileshare on your LAN
a) no jellyfin app for your device (or, more likely, a buggy jellyfin app for your device)
b) you prefer kodi, because of familiarity or features lacking in the jellyfin app (eg im quite fond of using the kore app on my phone, lets me use it as a remote to control the kodi instance on my TV)

Hm. I just use the upnp feature on kodi to stream my shit and it works well enough. Would I have any benefit switching to jellyfin through kodi?
I did use the official jellyfin app for a while, but yeah, it was buggy as frick and I couldn't take it.

>Would I have any benefit switching to jellyfin through kodi?
probably not
jellyfin would allow you to transcode your shit
or to access it through the internet
for purely local media consumption, no need for it

Use what suits your needs mate. The only benefit of jellyfin is a pretty interface to catalogue your movies and share it with other people. If you can happily stream stuff using things like DLNA or just accessing a file share, leave it at that. I use it mainly out of autism to mess around with my server and to let my dad use it so he doesn't have to pay for shitty streaming platforms.
You can run it on Windows too anon, it's easier to setup on there than on a Linux virtual machine, I only did it that way to I can provision it in an autistic way.
I actually fricked the hottest girl I've ever fricked right after watching a movie on my Plex back in college. I mean she had no clue wtf it was or even cared but I still had it.
Can anyone explain the difference between plex and kodi with add-ons, when kodi is free and downloads boxcovers, plot, and cast information for all your films?
>he fell for the QLED meme
shoulda bought oled, homosexual
joking aside, setup an HTPC
a raspi 4 with libreELEC will do for cheap
nvidia shield would be an intermediate solution (but has ads on the interface...)
ideally you should get a proper PC.
one of those used corporate mini PCs will do, as long as the intel cpu is relatively modern (say, 8th gen or newer)
and if you go all out and use something with a discrete gpu, you can use mpv shaders to get state of the art upscaling for your non-4k content.

Or just use the Plex app and let stuff reencode on the fly if your CPU is good enough, I assume your files aren't working because there is no DTS on Samsung TVs
the latter (pic related) allows me to control an HDhomerun to record shows as well as import my regular media library. The main perk, and the only reason I pay $8 a month for this shit is because it lets me make comfy "virtual channels" that show up as if it was a real channel, so I have it set up with rules to just work automatically. For instance the Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy channels play all episodes I have recorded in order but the DVR only keeps hte last 20 episodes so there's no little maintenance
I then record Hallmark movies and stuff for my sister and mom, plus random kids shows for my niece who came to Canada once and liked some kids show that isn't available in Australia. They watch it on my plex.
some of my movie channels, I made like 100 of them, most are just completely random but some are themed
my only real complaint is that it's not as slick as recognizing files as Plex is, for instance plex will get it with shit filenames like "potccotbc-1080p" is the first Pirates of the Carribean movie but Channels DVR needs the filename to be more literal as well as include the year, probably for the best to eliminate those shitty filenames from my collection though
just a PSA for all those who have issues with plex/jellyfin/whatever recognising their collections
use radarr/sonarr to download new stuff
and use the manual import feature for what you already have
they will autorename stuff (is configurable, but default should be easy for plex/jellyfin to recognize)
no one gives a shit what you think zoomtard
he always baits with stupid shit like this?
anonymous really is like that frrr

maybe next one I'll consider, not switching tv just to use specific software
this reads like your usual fretroony tricks to be honest
>"dude seriously it's super easy, just AS good and free :)"
>it's mediocre at best
I'll give it a try some day though
also I use that "watch together" thing from plex a lot, which is kinda easy to set up
no sub required, but I'm considering going lifetime because I use this shit a lot
Plex is a pain in the ass too
It is very anal about filenames and has an aneurysm if you mix movies with tv shows. And some videos make it crash
But otherwise it just werks unlike jellyfin which never werked for me
this works quite well
had not that many issue with torrent files though
What is this
in that menu
you can search and pick whatever movie it really is in case the parser fricked up
no more spoons, Black
God, I hate doing the dreaded "Plex Dance" whenever it doesn't tag a video properly.
Get an android tv, you can sideload pretty much anything on them
I have fricking vidaa which has like ten apps and you are stuck with them forever. Thankfully one of them is plex
>set it up once on your server/nas
>set your kino directory
>organise them however autistically you do or don't want to
>done
only thing you have to do is open some ports on your router if you want to share it with other people. but each to their own.
I've never paid a single cent for Plex. Who the frick pays for it and what for?
I tried every alternative to Plex, frankly they were all shit.
I just paid the lifetime subscription fee for like $75 once and don't have to ever think about it again.
the anti piracy stuff is posted because it makes spergs like you post angry paragraphs
Haha what a dumb homosexual
of all the things that will make a woman's pussy make the old windows shutting down sound, I don't think my Jellyfin server is at the top of that list.
kek I haven't seen that gif in years. based oldgay
I made that gif - or rather, I edited in a new banana over top of a previous crappier version somebody else made. Seeing it gave me flashbacks to when I used to come to Cinemaphile of my own volition, because it was fun and different from the rest of the internet and mostly free of social/political drama. Thanks.
Shut up homosexual
Never understood this meme. I'm yet to meet a girl who gives a frick about where you consoom your media from or what phone youve got.
Are you sure you arent just boring fricktards and women grab for straws trying to avoid your vicinity?
It's just shilling, trolling, and/or contratianism. The only time this meme is true is if you're pulling out the HDMI cable to plug your piece of shit chrome book in so that you can watch a streaming site that you found on Yandex and every 20 minutes you have to switch the server because it stopped loading.
If you're a chad with an airgapped home media server and an extensive library of torrented kino (aka everything you can possibly find a torrent of since you have the disk space and you might as well go nuts) she will probably make you cum in her multiple times before the film is over
It's a meme. But do you know what does dry up pussy? Not having an iPhone, now that is real.
based android chads absolutely filtering hylics
Glad I'm married kek single guys have it rough out there. I would consider this a gift that a shallow, materialistic-even-for-a-woman type just self filtered out of my life. b***hes like this are a lost cause and will only drag you down in life even if they're just a frick buddy.
That's a positive thing really. She announces her own red flag.
I have a 160TB plex server
Chicks fricking love when I pull up any movie they request on the spot
>implying one should ever let a woman pick the kino
lel, no thanks, i have better shit to watch than The Notebook.
ive seen enough movies now that i might as well start checking romcoms off the list
I actually like some romcoms even if the story is always the same dumb shit
>gigachad with loads of money and can speak 18 different languages has minor flaw
>woman rebuffs him over minor flaw
>over course of the movie he redeems himself
>they all lived happily ever after
*breaks out the hdmi cable and a 4tb external HDD*
*everyone women within a 10 mile radius strips down and starts sprinting towards my location*
it really is that easy lads
Only ten miles? Try breaking out the 6x6 bookshelf of curated physical media next time.
>4tb
Jesus, why would you brag about so little space?
>implying a normie would even know they aren't looking at another streaming service.
got my plex on my tv
i download every movie in 4khdr
then play it on my tv via plex app
your point being?
>NOOOOOOOOOOO YOU HAVE TO USE YOUR HDMI CORD AND PLUG YOUR HARD DRIVE INTO THE TV AND SURF THE TV'S UGLY INTERFACE EVERYTHING YOU WANT TO WATCH A MOVIE REEEEEEEEE
oh that point
yeah well uhm homosexual
man these AI are starting to sound like real Cinemaphile tards now
moron tier meme.
What streaming service should I subscribe to in order to get the most pussy?
Your misses doesn’t regularly ask you to torrent stuff?
Ngmi
>Corporate shill attempts social status peer pressure as a means of influencing piraters to pay full whack for entertainment media
Frick your subscription services homosexual, these ((companies)) don’t deserve a single penny
>"Okay anon i'll come over, you have netflix and disney plus right?"
>"Ah yeah we can watch whatever you want just tell me what you wanna watch and i'll have it downloaded"
>"Huh downloaded? I dunno what i wanna watch, ill just browse when i get there"
Fricking Women
never give them the option, just tell them to sit and watch.
What if they challenge you to an arm wrestle decider then they beat you?
>arm wrestle
>they beat you
I mean beat you as in domestic violence, not at arm wrestling. They throw down that challenge as a psyche and then start throwing fists and objects at your head until you foetal position up, then they blame you for causing the fight. What do you do then? Help me, please.
have a megapint to calm down

I need to make sure she’s not recording me first. Cluster B’s are notoriously devious.
lol kick her in the vagoo. It wont leave a mark and it will not be something she would show to the cops if she decided to call them on you.
>Browses the top 10 most popular because unable to form an opinion on what she likes.
>Browses the top 10 before she comes over and downloads all of them
You can install Plex Meta Manager and have it manage Trending Movies/TV as well as categories.
Pic is my Plex Collection set-up
how much storage do you have? I have 4 tb and its filling up fast
140TBs I believe. It's a Synology NAS unit that I'm using this to self-host.
Me again, I also made PMM scrape IMDb collections and then you get this (you got to do the posters yourself)
>IMDb collections
you mean those moronic arbitrary lists that users make that always combine completely unrelated shit together?
4tb is baby tier anon. Drives aren't super expensive right now. Go get yourself a pair of 16s. Or at least a couple 8tbs. Shouldn't cost more than $100 each and one of them can hold around a 1000-1500 movies, if you aren't a bd gay
>HDD
Oh, you can afford 20TB SSDs?
but grug, HDD is fine for big pp media storage
grug encode movie in big rock. grug use rockodex for big compression. ooga booga VLC.
just go all the way and install 20TB of always on RAM for the fastest movie access you dumb tard
where are you getting 8 tb hdds for $100 a piece? Also I heard wd red is the best to get if youre making a media server
sdd is overkill for movies
>she will respect me more if i subscribe to every streaming service
It is called Netflix and chill not clicking on torrented movies on your PC and chill.
>online sign-up to access files from your own hard drive
6 euros a month for a nice server with good, polite staff who'll take any request you can give them. 12 thousand tv shows and 25 thousand movies.
Yeah, I'm thinking kino. Plex and Plex server owners are based beyond belief
Forgot the picture
what's the quality like on a scale of yify to full bluray rip? I'd be tempted to subscribe to a service like that if the quality is decent enough. there's only so much I can store on my own media server.
1080p or you can convert to lower or higher if you want to. They also usually have 4k sections if that's what you want.
I've never had a problem with any movie, no matter how new or old.
the question was about quality though, yiffy 1080p looks like trash on anything bigger than phone.
Subs are great, you can easily search for them in-menu and choose your preferred language.
Wait, you pay the server owners? Wtf, wonder how much they're making. Can I also get rich off morons paypigging to use a server they could just do themselves for free?
You could say the same for any streaming service; you are just paying for convenience no normal person has storage for 25,000 movies
400tb is a pretty small amount of drive space for the average person I'd say?
Zoomers legitimately don't even have 400gb of storage across all their devices, they put everything on "the cloud" and don't own anything.
where do i find these owners?
https://projectvalhalla.eu/
Where do people offer plex shares now that r/plexshares is gone?
>r/plexshares
/r/PlexnEmbyShares/
>2019 hdmi cable meme
Get outta here with that shit, grandpa boomer.
Wait till I tell her about the script I made to change the default audio track on my Dragon Ball Z .mkv files from English to Japanese.
Keep quiet pussy drier, women hate setting up the language for any subbed media. I got a blow job for setting up vlc subtitles on track 2 automatically
That's not a picture of your face though
>be me, invite girl over
>ask her what she wants to watch, she says Frozen
>instantly torrent from my phone and upload it to my plex server
>tell her it's my own personal Netflix, she loves it
>mfw she holds her cute little body close to mine as we cuddle and watch Frozen
>>mfw she holds her cute little body close to mine as we
I love my Plex, but sometimes it won't play a 4k movie together with subs, start buffering. Is there an easy fix?
if it's your own server, a workaround could be to burn the subtitles into the file using something like handbrake?
4k movies are tough, it can either be an upload speed bottleneck, download speed bottleneck, CPU bottleneck on server, CPU bottleneck on device you are trying to play it on, you trying to play it over wifi and so on, you have to have a better than average setup for it
Sound like a compatibility issue
Transcoding could help
4k is a bit of a nightmare. 9/10 it's a problem with the player not supporting something in the 4k source file. The Plex windows client is most reliable and native TV apps are second best. Apple TV app also pretty good. Browser or androidor old TV, forget it. Truehd audio seems to be one common format in 4k content that screws up players all the time. Use the dashboard now playing screen to diagnose if anything is being transcoded, and understand the difference between direct play and direct stream.
I have it working most of the time across my home network but I've given up sharing out 4k content to friends because the amount of support they need to get it working is a nightmare.
whoops! Used the wrong pic.
It's true.
I spent hours categorizing my media library and assigning cover art and backgrounds for all my stuff and my girlfriend could not even begin to give a shit. Even the stuff I added for her like Scrubs and whatever. I was like
>Look here's how you assign a different cover for each season.
She seemed mildly interested at the time but it's been months and she's barely used the feature. Literally just content to have
>Love.Actually.HD-subs.MP4.LMAO.avi
As the in app title and no cover art.
Then always spends 5 minutes trying to find it every time because it's not matched and not in order and there's no thumbnail and....AAAAHHHH!
Why are women like this bros?
it's because you told her too much about it. there's a reason official streaming services don't allow cool features like customization because normies are confused by it. you should have just said
>it's like Netflix but better
Your gf is an apple user and you are a linux user.
Quit your shit she WILL NOT get into it, I get it that women are dumb, but you are dumber for not realizing this obvious fact
>he doesn't hire the actors to reenact every scene right in the kino room
whats the pussy effect of a shield pro with a HDD connected with REMUX movies on it ???
>Hdmi cordlets coping
Plex Chads with yet another W
mount /dev/disk/by-label/Movies ~/Movies
yep it's kino time
I like Plex but anything above 720p stutters when i stream from my PC to my TV over my local WiFi network, pretty sure it's not my PC or TV that is the bottleneck since CPU/GPU usage while streaming is pitiful, and my TV never had problems streaming Netflix in 4k
I wish there was a way to stream from PC to my TV over my local network but 720p is not acceptable for me so i am stuck having to transfer shit to my external HDD and manually plug it into my TV
I have my PC connected via Ethernet and my TV over 5 GHz wifi, no stutters even with over 40 GB Bluray rips.
pic related are cheap as dirt these days. I've been using the same pair for over 10 years now and they've never failed me.
This always felt like magic to me
I remember being shown this tech when I was applying to college 15 years ago, and it seemed insanely dumb back then and now you can just buy them and it works
yeah I don't think I ever spent the time understanding how they work other than le magic box somehow sends signal to the other one through the mains
They're slow as frick btw, even wifi is better
>They're slow as frick btw, even wifi is better
that might actually be true thinking about it if your house has super old wiring in it. a modern house will be fine.
If there was enough wifi range nobody would bother with them in the first place.
Also 100 mbps is enough for most use cases, and it certainly is better than no internet at all or dropping connection all the time
you had them plugged into an extension didn't you
I have one of them in an extension with my ISP router and it works fine.
But this house is relatively new, and the wiring appears to be decent so that might be it.
This, they are pretty shit and a lazy solution to just running a wire and getting a second router if your house is big enough to need it.
Force transcoding.
I run a literal toaster and plex works fine. Use ethernet for your PC, dude. Run a cable down the side of your house, it's a 2 dollar drill bit and a 10 dollar bit of cable.
This
buy some cheap clips even and use ur thick skull to nail em in
tuck an ethernet cable under the baseboard, simple as
>he cares about what women think
I don't understand. Sure, the "lemme plugin my laptop and fiddle with the audio for 30 minutes" is not a good look. But Jellyfin, Plex or even osmc's user experience is almost indistinguishable from Netflix and friends.
your favorites/watch history on the other hand...
dont know what any of the shit in this thread means. been using piratebay since 2005 and never stopped. if it's something obscure with no seeds, I use downloadhelper on 123movies. never 'streaming' anything because it's not as comfy as downloading it first.
And since I'm not a native speaker I like having english subtitles, Plex handles that as well.
ok i understand better now. so its like XBMC. cool i guess but i only have a laptop haha
sorry, it's me again
I'm trans btw, not sure if that matters.
not me and i dont know what that even means because i dont accept changes
Frick, me again, I also forgot to say that I'm black and have AIDS
>Right click "Completed Torrents" folder anclick Share Everyone
>Install vlc on TV
>browse to folder
Why complicate things?
your proposed solution is more complicated than plex
I use this to seamlessly watch my porn collection from anywhere in the world. It's pretty dope knowing no matter where I go I have access to 5 TB of carefully curated porn at my disposal.
Can someone give me a Qrd?
How does this work?
You download a program to your pc which starts a media server
You can give it a folder to scan your movie files
Then you can use the app to connect to it
It functions like Netflix but its your pirated movies
Anon, if a moron doesn't know how to use google and needs basic spoonfeeding, he doesn't know how to torrent
Guess again gay
>n-no I know how to use utorrent and get yiffy rips!
Okay, so you're only half moronic
>what is a qrd?
A code word for "spoonfeed me"
It stands for quick rundown, meaning I don't want to google it and read an essay.
I can only imagine people here don't own homes with multiple people using different devices. I have plex running on a NAS so that I can stream my shows to any of our 3 TV's, phones, desktop, laptop... copying files to physical devices is for plebs.
you are immersed in a constant stream of poison infiltrating your mind with subversive behavioral programming
What do you spend your free time doing? Posting on Cinemaphile? Is that better for your "behavioral programming"?
I just like watching muh movies. No, it hasn't really made me stop being racist or start liking israelites. It's just entertainment. If it is some subversive programming, it must not be working too well.
anon... it turned you gay
No, Cinemaphile and anime did that.
thats nothing
hold my HDMI cable
weird you'd think that. out of my friends the only one with a well paying job and a qt polish wife is a college professor who runs a 60TB plex server for all his friends. He's got about 50 users linked to it and a plex request website where you just select a show and his setup will go out to all the places he sets and start to automatically add episodes or movies. It's really cool. The rest of us are just a bunch of single nobodies.
I’m literally too moronic to use Plex
except when theres a specific movie your gf wants to watch that isn't on netflix or hulu so you bust this out and she thinks you're some kind of wizard.
>not airplaying from your macbook pro
yes we know you use it stream, that's the point. lmao plebs
im too dumb to set up jellyfin
Then use any of the millions of guides
i got a fire tv stick cause my tv is a bit old and getting apps on it is a pain in the ass but it doesnt find my jellyfin server so i gave up
jellyfin is a server
you install it on your NAS (or, wherever your media is actually stored)
you only need a client on your firestick
and it doesn't need to be jellyfin itself
kodi can be pointed at a jellyfin server
or even at a plain fileshare on your LAN
>kodi can be pointed at a jellyfin server
Why would you do this instead of just directly using the jellyfin app?
a) no jellyfin app for your device (or, more likely, a buggy jellyfin app for your device)
b) you prefer kodi, because of familiarity or features lacking in the jellyfin app (eg im quite fond of using the kore app on my phone, lets me use it as a remote to control the kodi instance on my TV)
Not tried it with a firestick so can't advise pal.
You can run it on Windows too anon, it's easier to setup on there than on a Linux virtual machine, I only did it that way to I can provision it in an autistic way.
>yeah baby, I can play movies on it straight to the TV too.
>*vegana moistening sounds*
I just cast it so they never even see it.
*literally guarantees you get laid*
I actually fricked the hottest girl I've ever fricked right after watching a movie on my Plex back in college. I mean she had no clue wtf it was or even cared but I still had it.
Can anyone explain the difference between plex and kodi with add-ons, when kodi is free and downloads boxcovers, plot, and cast information for all your films?
i don't even chase pussy anymore
> Making home servers look like streaming sites.
No wonder you homosexuals have problems with women.
Except the interface is actually way better than any streaming service when you look at all the features it has compared to them
Yes. Like I said. No wonder you have problems with women.
My new samsung tv doesnt play most of the files on my hardrive
>he fell for the QLED meme
shoulda bought oled, homosexual
joking aside, setup an HTPC
a raspi 4 with libreELEC will do for cheap
nvidia shield would be an intermediate solution (but has ads on the interface...)
ideally you should get a proper PC.
one of those used corporate mini PCs will do, as long as the intel cpu is relatively modern (say, 8th gen or newer)
and if you go all out and use something with a discrete gpu, you can use mpv shaders to get state of the art upscaling for your non-4k content.
If it is smart tv download vlc player
Or just use the Plex app and let stuff reencode on the fly if your CPU is good enough, I assume your files aren't working because there is no DTS on Samsung TVs
Samsung makes the worst tv os, next to LG. I bought a stolen roku ultra for 20 bucks and it's better than any built in os
>gf found the betamax storage room
i use plex + channels DVR
the latter (pic related) allows me to control an HDhomerun to record shows as well as import my regular media library.
They watch it on my plex.
some of my movie channels, I made like 100 of them, most are just completely random but some are themed
my only real complaint is that it's not as slick as recognizing files as Plex is, for instance plex will get it with shit filenames like "potccotbc-1080p" is the first Pirates of the Carribean movie but Channels DVR needs the filename to be more literal as well as include the year, probably for the best to eliminate those shitty filenames from my collection though
just a PSA for all those who have issues with plex/jellyfin/whatever recognising their collections
use radarr/sonarr to download new stuff
and use the manual import feature for what you already have
they will autorename stuff (is configurable, but default should be easy for plex/jellyfin to recognize)
what is that one pirate streaming service that emulates regular tv (like random episodes of shows and whatnot)? That's all you need
