>the first half was incredible, the second half fell apart and felt too rushed
exact sampe problem with that directors previous movie, bladerunner2049
First half of the movie was pure kino, then the second half falls flat on it's ass (harrison ford really took a shit over all the scenes he was in, and jared leto's overacting was cringe as frick)
How? I've read all 6 of the books. The book hardly describes any of the environment and you're left to imagine yourself what the tech and all the other stuff looks like.
You can stop anywhere really but 3. Either read First two and stop or read 4. Just power through part 3. Part 4 God Emperor is the best science fiction I've ever read and it's surprisingly very funny. Part 5 and 6 are really boring. Somehow the sense of humor will completely disappear after 4. It's really a lightening caught in bottle type thing.
This isn't true btw, there are plenty of descriptions of embroidered uniforms, engraved furniture, baroque architecture, draperies, ornaments etc. Overall the first few books (before the God Emperor time skip) convey the impression of a quasi Arabic / Ottoman culture where decorativeness has replaced modern minimalism i.e. totally the opposite of Villeneuve's brutalist leftover bladerunner CGI
>dude these peasant desert people are secret badasses and 1 fremen can oneshot 200 sardaukar and teleport behind you and hide in the sand and they also have the best technology as well
Did a 10 year old write this? Let me guess, the fremen are going to start riding the worms around next
A bland interpretation of a neat sci fi novel. Pacing issues out the ass by splitting it into 2 films. Villenueve is a hack. All style, no substance. No surprise the morons here lapped up the entirely unnecessary BR sequel.
I watched it yesterday. It's easily the best sci fi film in the past 5 years. Cinematography and soundtrack were both off the charts. Most of the acting was excellent, although Chalamet was a little bland. Also a little too much whispering for my tastes, but I can forgive it. I'll definitely see Part II in theaters, although I'm worried about them making any Dune movies past that because the stories take a hard left turn into Bizarro land.
I knew nothing about Dune beyond the typical popular culture references and memes.
The spice, the big ass worms, the pain box and a few other tidbits.
I watched Dunc and i got it, simple as that. I had a few questions after watching it but overall i understood everything that happened.
I understood the agendas of the characters and the overall plot which seems like something that should be obvious but a big ass scifi movie could easily fumble that.
Also it was a pretty movie with some cool visuals.
And Rebeca Ferguson makes me tingly in my pants.
So yeah i will happily give them 9€ to watch part 2 in a couple months or whatever.
This was the last movie my dad and I watched before he passed away. He was an old school sci fi nerd born in the 60s and he was so hyped to see it because Dune is his favorite book series, and he loved the movie. On his death bed he apologized that he wouldn't get to see part 2 with me but wanted me to go when it came out. So this November I'll be buying two tickets, the seat beside me will be empty but I know I won't be watching it alone.

It's a faithful adaptation to the book, and in some respects, that's part of the problem in the second half of the movie.
the problem is how boring it looks.
sts and costums are such an unimaginative bore.

Is it worth reading?

How much time does it take to read 1 and 2?

The graphic designs for the movie are pretty nice.

...Is it possible that you aren't as clever as you think you are, pseud?
A movie so sterile it didn’t leave a single speck of soul in it
>What the frick did I just watch
all substance, no depth
That doesn't make any sense. Do you mean a mile wide and an inch deep?
I'm pretty sure he meant all fur no knickers anon
I just hope there's some scene showing pic related.
Gonna go see part 2 with this cutie. Shes a sci fi nerd and loved part 1, and is a big Timmy and Zendaya fan.

I agree, but some of the characters are ugly as hell for no reason at all
Legit the only real flaw is it's incomplete, can't wait to watch part 1 and 2 back to back like God intended
It was just a setup for the REAL movie (not cope)
