So how did people in the 60s read this without an arabic dictionary or something? How the frick did the author expect you to understand every science fiction concept and weird words with literally no translation or anything?
Its like the entire book is written for people with a previous understanding of the Dune series. Compare this to LOTR for example and Tolkien explains almost every random elvish and dwarvish word, you don't need to be an expert on the fictional universe to pick up the book and understand whats going on

im pretty sure the original book came with a glossary of terms.
Because it was written when people weren't moronic.
This
What is context?
I wonder when people gave up on using context and a little bit of patience to figure things out. Final Fantasy XIII came out in like 2010 and all of the reviews were complaining about how none of the concepts made sense unless you read the optional lore (completely unnecessary as the game makes it pretty clear in the cutscenes over the first few hours) and how the story was confusing because you were just thrown into the middle of a mission at the start with characters who hadn't introduced themselves yet (even though Final Fantasy VII opened the exact same way and nobody got confused over that game).
FFXIII was walk in a straight line simulator, the only FF I never finished, absolute dogshit
I'm not defending the 20 hours of tutorials and the game playing itself, but anyone who couldn't understand the story was just moronic.
>I wonder when
Education quality decline reaching a certain point.
Death hand missile ready
The original book had a glossary.
>understand every science fiction concept
It wasn't the first sci-fi book. The genre bloomed in the 50's and quickly popularized a shit ton of concepts among its fans, and all those concepts are known as tropes today
>planet is THE most hardcore desert in the universe but still has ice for some reason
>muslims are the most advanced race in the universe
>space Jesus mission is to save the space muslims
>the most important resource in the universe is giant worm poop
>jedi nuns are actually controlling everything from the shadows and they are more powerful because women
>robots and most technology cannot be used but they still use giant dragonfly ships with autopilot
>all harkonnen are evil because they're gay
Bravo Herbert
is THE most hardcore desert in the universe but still has ice for some reason
Same with mars
this is all pretty much true irl except for the muslim thing good thing I can just draw on the caucasian influences on the fremen to self insert
>planet is THE most hardcore desert in the universe but still has ice for some reason
do you know what poles are? underground rivers and streams?
>muslims are the most advanced race in the universe
the fremen? theyre desert tribesmen....
>space Jesus mission is to save the space muslims
the whole series has a pretty negative view of saviours
>the most important resource in the universe is giant worm poop
Bat shit was literally more lucrative than gold and was used as a highly sought after fertilizer in the 1800s
>jedi nuns are actually controlling everything from the shadows and they are more powerful because women
The Bene gesserit are manipulative c**ts and there is tons of infighting. and they couldnt even control their golden egg to give them a female child
>robots and most technology cannot be used but they still use giant dragonfly ships with autopilot
autopilot is not a.i.
>all harkonnen are evil because they're gay
you would know
these are all pretty basic scientific and anthropological concepts. if you think theyre wacky or dumb in any way then you should probably just stop reading in general.
>autopilot is not a.i.
Except it is
THey were smoking weed dropping acid, the books were just sth to keep the eyeballs moving
I read this as a teen in highschool and I understood it. I think youre just dumb.
>So how did people in the 60s read this without an arabic dictionary or something?
People were smarter back in the day, GenX was the last to be literate.
Has nothing to do with arabs. He used foreign and fake language as to make mystery, specifically because it wasn't common to the readers.
>writes a bunch of random nonsense just to confuse the readers
BRAVO TOLKIEN!
>it uses exactly one arabic word
people back then weren't moronic mutt zoomers like (You) and could contextualize and connect dots to understand plot points not explicitly spelled out
You'll never undestand everything an author put in their work. Just do the best you can and enjoy it in your own way.
>compare it with Tolkien
Dune isn’t a children’s book
Epic bait /b/ro
Nerds were literate.
It was a different time.
