I finally got around to watching Part One because some friends want to see Part Two at the kinoplex. Holy shit this movie is so fricking boring.

It was lame right. Only the villain was awesome and he's in it for under 20 minutes
It seriously feels like a star wars movie
More like modern star trek but with less yelling. Oh, and a lot of bizarre slow motion sequences that already add to a bloated runtime.
I was seriously able to get up, go take a piss and make a cup of tea without missing literally anything
the only thing it was going for it is visuals and i don't think its even worth watching outside of theaters
i did the same thing you did, watched part one at home- ok that was kinda lame
went to see part two with friends- actually enjoyed it
i don't remember a thing from the first except for when he goes to that bald archive/library guy for info about whatever it was, and then the librarian tries to make a joke about his baby photos
That's blade runner
tbh the scene where the chick with the magic voice was gagged was pretty hot
for real
Boring? Sounds like Dune all right. At least the first 400 pages. Just missing the dinner scene
I wasn't blown away either but part two is drastically better, hang in there. Its about the same length but has like triple the amount of actual story and content in it without anything being rushed, really highlighted how absolutely nothing fricking happened in part one.
Why did Paul drink the water again? Didn't look like anyone forced him to
Amplifies his psychic abilities *10 and allows him to see the past and analyze it to more accurately see the future
Yeah but he didn't want to.
he changed his mind and went full jihad mode when they blew up the city
Cuz he was in the desert and he was thirsty
I don't know why people hate zendaya. She pretty cute tbh
You might be attracted to phillipino boys
Lmao so thats why she reminds me of my (male) filipino coworker
I don't hate her but she is a 6 at best.
>I don't know why people hate zendaya. She pretty cute tbh
They have no appreciation for brown beauties unlike you and I, brother
Did anyone else get any weird sexual tension between Paul and his mom in part 1?
One of the first scenes where te mom tells the son to use the voice on her to make her do what he wants was pretty sus
Yes, that's Villeneuve for ya. I watched the first one in the theatre and was bored out of my mind. May watch the second one when the bluray comes out.
Even when his movies are good like BR 2049 they're still way too slow with too many meandering scenes. I only finished BR 2049 on a second watch because I stopped halfway the first one.
The zoology of the sand worms makes no fricking sense
Part One does all the world building heavy lifting, and Part Two just turns into a big loud action movie.
Damn that sounds even worse somehow
It's not. It's a significantly better film.
Quick some one give me a good sci-fi to watch, something visually stimulating like Star Wars.
Videodrome
thank you, seen it and didnt really enjoy it.
I liked part two, its a better direction than the marvel shit, but its not like some masterpiece. Its just a fun piece of sci fi, wish there were more sci fi movies but I guess Ill have to make due with anime.
Parts I liked:
The celebration on the Harkonnen planet
The religious and cultural scenes
The Bene Gesserit subterfuge/intrigue
Some gripes:
Skipping how Paul survived the dessert
Skipping the developemnts bwteen Paul and the second na-Baron
The actor playing the emperor was a weird choice
The Fremen vs Emperors army was lame
The one guys death was boring and not as gruesome as it should have been
In general they pulled back on the brutality of the fighting. Dune should have been rated R.
Feels like the first one they made it way too drawn out and the second one they skipped to much.
>The one guys death
Who
Just avoiding spoilers. The boss guy, "grandpa"
>The Fremen vs Emperors army was lame
Huh?
2 is better
How is the 1984 version
It opens with everyone being fully aware of each other's plans and going through with it anyways
Having seen dunc 1 + 2, I can now honestly say that Lynch made a better attempt at representing dune in a 2 hour film.
5 hours long just to distill dune down to religion bad. And frick up Chani's character just to spoon feed that to morons.
>distill dune down to religion bad
Anon, i...
This film was made for you anon. You get what you deserve. With none of the political intrigue or weirdness that makes Dune great. A true reddit masterpiece.
>Muh heckin WEIRDNESS
Goddammit you fricking Lynchposters are so annoying
Lynch's film was trash, yet it was still better than Dunc. Let that sink in a bit first before you flap your fat fingers all over the keyboard again.
Don't care, i had a kino experience and WILL watch dunc 3. And thankfully most people who aren't contrarian virgins enjoyed it too.
Part 1 >>> Part 2. Part 1 is a trance. A strange masterpiece. Complex characters in a world of mixed beauty and dread, with action that had real danger and implications for them. Part 2 is lifeless action bluster with half-hearted human, topped off with a shit Chani that is psychologically implausible and permanently scowling. They made Chani the main character more or less, and I speculate that doing that forced them to make Stilgar and Jessica — two complex, fascinating characters in Part 1 — into one-note caricatures. Beyond the screenplay itself, the direction seems less inspired. Part 1 felt like Villeneuve's personal vision, with direction, editing and sound editing conveying character psychology. We are close to Paul's (and sometimes Jessica's) perspective throughout all of Part 1, but for some reason they ditched that in Part 2. That, combined with the total lack of chemistry between Paul and Chani, contribute to a completely unconvincing love story and completely unconvincing turns toward "villainy" for Paul and Jessica. After the strange euphoric vision of Part 1, Part 2 was a major disappointment.
I said this stinker was going to struggle to make it to 550m after I saw it. 4 people at least walked out of the theatre. The shills had their brave face on and they tried their best.
At least now villeneuve probably won't be getting to frick up messiah too.
It'll end its box office run between $650-$700, which is objectively good for its budget. And Messiah is pretty much guaranteed at this point.
>4 people at least walked out of the theatre.
The movie has a cinemascore of A and his one of the highest rated films ever on IMDB and letterboxd. That doesn't mean that it's good, but it does mean that general audiences enjoyed the film.
I wish the film had been as strong as your cope.
Dune 2 is a successful film by every metric, and it'll receive at least 10 Oscar nominations like the first Dune did.
>It's going to get ten nominations at the yearly israelite awards anon, watchu gonna do now?
Stop tying your identity to shit films that these studios pay your favorite sloptuber to shill to you.
you have nothing going on and you just hate everything you miserable Black person lol
You base your opinion of films on the consensus of normies. This is what women do. That's a far worse insult than being a Black person.
im not even the guy youre replying to, youre just a miserable little b***h
I've seen well reasoned explanations for why Part 2 is inferior to Part 1, and (separately) why it's not a good adaptation of the book, but when people praise it all they can say is
>Nah, it's actually good though...
I haven't seen Part 1 because it was mid coof and I never got around to watching it later
But what do they even do in it? Pt 2 starts at about 200 pages in in the book
Even less than one. Do you like the idea of watching a negress be b***hy in the desert for three hours? If so this is the film for you.
I didn't think Pt 2 was that bad, but it's most of the book crammed into one film and they rush the last 30 minutes pretty hard
cliffnotes starting from beginning
>Paul's visions are established
>Complex relationship with his parents and their respective lineages. Enormous expectations with dangerous implications, but with personal love from his mother and father that is restorative and emotionally astute (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCNKr80ptHA)
>Gom Jabbar scene. Thrilling. Terrifying prophetic visions. Subliminal storytelling. Conversations with his mother in the fog after — one of the best scenes of the movie.
>Official signing of the Arrakis deal. Deep sense of foreboding
>Paul saying goodbye to Arrakis. Walking the beach, putting his hand in the water. Tactile imagery, again subliminal.
>Establishing relationships with Gurney Halleck, with a great introduction to the fighting style + shields, and with Duncan Idaho later.
>Arriving on Arrakis, sense of possibilities, beauty, danger. I love Jessica's golden dress
tired of typing now. Lots of shit happens and it's great storytelling
I went to see it just yesterday, and there were lots of scenes where I just chuckled and wondered what people going into Dune blind think of them
I last read the book over 20 years ago so I don't really remember a whole lot, but I was familiar with the concepts
I've got bad news OP, Part One is substantially better than Part Two.
Ok homosexual, any more valuable opinions?
still not watching.
Just watch Lynch's Dune instead.
Or play the porn game.
