Dwayne Johnson Comments On WB Forcing Him Out Of DC

>"I think that BLACK ADAM got caught in a vortex of new leadership, and that will always be one of the biggest mysteries, not only for me, but also throughout the business."

>"Anytime you have a company, especially of that size and magnitude, and you have changes in leadership, you have people coming in who, creatively and financially, are going to make decisions that you may not agree with, philosophically."

>"That was a question out of Wall Street and Hollywood. 'Wait a second, you had the biggest opening of your career without China, that could have been $100, maybe $200 million more. You're establishing a new superhero, growing out the franchise, bringing backHenry Cavillas Superman... the world went crazy. And also, we created a diverse superhero portfolio where you had men and women of color, in BLACK ADAM 2 as well."

>"As a business-minded person, I am always thinking 'audience first.' Yes, I look at and respect the bottom line economically, but also think about creating opportunity, creating things that are fresh, and delivering them for the audience. When that wasn't looked at through that lens, it makes things a little more challenging for guys like me where you're like, 'You sure you wanna do this?'"

>"At the end of the day, it's like new ownership coming in, buying an NFL team and going 'not my head coach and not my quarterback. Doesn't matter how many times you won the Super Bowl, I'm going with somebody else."

Saw it last week, Black adam wasnt half bad but him not being a hero and shiet felt somewhat forced, really dont get why they kept bringing that up.

        >not being a hero and shiet felt somewhat forced, really dont get why they kept bringing that up.
Because Black Adam is a supervillain, and they kept trying to remind you of that because of how poor the script was.

Modern Black Adam at the minimum is an anti-hero. DC been attempting to push him towards that direction way before they casted Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam.

No he's not, you casual. He's like Sinestro; a guy who thinks he's the protagonist of his own story, yet a villain that is detrimental to those around him because he thinks he's right to carry out his horrific actions

Your example would had more merit if DC already didnt turn Sinestro into an anti-hero.

I did, too. I liked the dark humor jokes more than the typical kid sidekick jokes. Like when the soldier was saved, everyone boo'd, and Black Adam murders him and the crowd cheers was a nice little setup subversion. But I could've done without the kid going, "WE GOTTA GIVE YOU A COOL MOTTO" typical Marvel shit.

      >'Wait a second, you had the biggest opening of your career without China,

Black Adam opened on 67 million, lower than Hobbs & Shaw (71 after inflation), Jumanji the Next Level (70 after inflation), Fate of the Furious (98 before, 122 after inflation), San Andreas (69 million after inflation), Fast Five (86 before and 117 after) and only just ahead of Jumanji Welcome to the Jungle (66 after inflation)

all of those roles are as a lead cast member, what he means is as sole star with the entire movie focused around him (because underneath it all he's an butthole) which is why he's only counting the incredibly forgettable disaster porn San Andreas, in which he does stupid things and magically lives and other people die by the hundreds on screen because they needed to put something in back of shot to make him seem interesting and he doesn't really care what happens to other people

what he's actually describing here however is that he's not A-list at all and can't sell a movie on his own; he needs Paul Walker's ghost or Karen Gillan's legs to get audiences in, he's B-list at best and blaming management changes for the fact that his movie stunk, had a stupid plot and belonged to a franchise nobody likes, which fair enough he probably couldn't have known in 2007 when he signed up for Shazam originally, but he could certainly have done something about in 2019 as "a business-minded person", like... delaying his appearance or just bowing out entirely because the movie looked bad on paper and belonged to a dying franchise that sucks

        >Karen Gillan's legs
look I love her and have had elaborate fantasies about her fricking me on her infamous 2011 NYC blackout drunk moment, but she has no star power at all.

He wants to protect his brand which portray him as an unbeatable tough guy and a family friendly good guy. Hence why Cena and Bautistia eventually turning out to be more fun and exciting actors than the Rock did. They also dont limit their potential roles to a specific archetype.

China shill aside, Cena's good at playing both Heroes and Villains and Anti Heroes. Bautista's on a whole other level.

Dwayne, this isn't your fricking vanity project franchise where you get to hype up Black Adam on the level of Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. You were muscled out because you're a dickhead trying to control shit you shouldn't, and because you fed false data to the market/investors. And yeah, I'll say it; you're having a crisis because your career is starting to cool down

Mediocre overproduced shit that blew money on Kanye and The Stones instead of a coherent script.
