>January 25, Mt. Laurel, NJ: This April, one of the greatest heroes throughout all of storytelling is setting out on a big comic adventure, as Disney’s Hercules returns for a brand-new comic book series presented by Dynamite Entertainment with writer Elliott Kalan and artist George Kambadais!
>The new comic follows the events of the beloved 1997 Walt Disney Animation Studious feature film, but is perfect for those who are new to the story and fans of the original film alike. After his famous journey, Hercules chose mortality over godhood in his internal struggle as a demigod. The Greek gods still don’t understand why he would ever make that decision, but that hasn’t severed their connection. Hercules has proven his might and mettle many times over, and the gods are more than happy to enlist him as their agent of Earthly matters.Award Winning Writer Elliott Kalan and Greek’s

>The new comic follows the events of the beloved 1997 Walt Disney Animation Studious feature film, but is perfect for those who are new to the story and fans of the original film alike. After his famous journey, Hercules chose mortality over godhood in his internal struggle as a demigod. >The goddess of beauty Aphrodite has granted an artist his wish to bring her sculpture to life. The only problem is the newly conscious marble proves to be hard to handle and more bone-crushingly lively than expected. The inquisitive and kind-hearted Herc discovers on the scene that the rogue statue is simply misunderstood and rambunctious in its brand-new life, reminding him of his own precocious youth. Returning to Mt. Olympus to report back to Aphrodite, Hercules finds her temple mysteriously empty and abandoned. And that’s just the opening — could this be the start of a larger sinister saga? Anyone who has ever dabbled in Greek mythology knows the answer to that!
>“To me, the Disney Hercules embodies the best aspects of classic superheroes,” said writer Elliott Kalan. “He always tries to do what’s right, never gives up, cares about the people around him, and feels for those who need help. Hercules is the original superhero concept — a super-strong person who keeps people safe by removing monsters from the world. What are the Twelve Labors but the original twelve-issue storyline?!? My hope is that when people read Hercules, they’ll say ‘This could have been a new Hercules movie!'”
Wait, is that a callback to the tv show?
Also how are Dynamite's other Disney titles? Should I go for this licensed stuff if I want some actually good Disney nowadays?
Dynamite's Hades book already completely ignored the TV show in favor of completely redoing Icarus, Arachne, Jason and Medusa their own way.
One of my favorite movies when I was a kid, hope the book is good and he doesn't become homossexual.
Is Hades' book good?
Wow, the others are acceptable, but they could have just skipped Icarus
They're the ones being buttholes
What, you mean the statue part? Pygmalion is one of the standard Greek myths.
I’ve been enjoying Gargoyles and Darkwing Duck has been okay. Only one that interests me in the future is Lilo and Stitch.
>Heading up the immortal creative team on this series are writer Elliott Kalan and artist George Kambadais. Kalan’s Spider-Man and the X-Men remains a fan-favorite, with panels shared between fans all the time thanks to its mix of action, comedy, and character that readers will see reflected in Hercules now. Beyond comics he has won multiple Emmy Awards across his contributions to The Daily Show, Mystery Science Theater 3000, and more. Kambadais is a skyrocketing talent in comics, following his perfectly fitting style for the initial flagship title of Disney’s Gargoyles comics revival. As a native Greek, Hercules is a uniquely special project for George. He brings a level of familiarity and reverence for the mythology that will flow onto his pages.
>Kambadais shared, “Hercules is a super important character in pop culture, even more so here in Greece. We have known his name ever since we were children. I remember my mother reading the Twelve Labors of Hercules to me as a bedside story! They were amazing, magical. So was the Disney Animation movie when it came out. We, as Greek children, back then (in the pre- internet days) felt kind of isolated. Living in a small corner of the world seemed far away from anything that felt big and important. When I saw the movie, I felt sort of… validated. It was equal parts exciting and moving. Now being a part, however infinitesimal, of that story feels huge!”
I’m gonna have to be an butthole but there were no black people in Ancient Greece. This cover is really bad.
>This immortal duo of Kalan and Kambadais are joined by a pantheon of divinely talented cover artists, including Kambadais, Matteo Lolli (Deadpool, Marauders), Franceso Tomaselli (Spawn), and Alessandro Ranaldi (Disney Villains: Hades).
>Fans of Hercules won’t want to miss the biggest adventure since The Odyssey! With appeal for Disney fans, mythology fiends, and with a dash of superhero DNA, there’s something for everyone on this fresh hero’s journey!

THEY LITERALLY OWN MORE THAN ONE COMICBOOK LABEL, WHY ARE THEY NOT PUBLISHING IT THEMSELVES!?
DISNEY WTF ARE YOU DOING?
You must be new in these things about comicbooks.
Marvel Comics drag other non-superhero titles to the dust under their wing
Remember "the wizard of oz" and those french titles in 2008-2009, if your comicbook isn't in marvel universe. You don't get sales in marvel comics.
You make it sound like Marvel Oz was DOA, but it apparently lasted through to 2014
Because Dynamite is paying Disney for the license. That means Disney makes money not doing anything but signing off on everything being made. Dynamite seems to be doing well working with Disney as I've heard that it's a huge hassle.
This. Disney is very willing to outsource stuff. They even licensed Spider-Man to IDW. I honestly thought they would shut down Marvel by now and just farm out the IPs but they're keeping them around longer than I expected
>THEY LITERALLY OWN MORE THAN ONE COMICBOOK LABEL
marvel and?
They own part of Boom
>Idiots don't know how licensing works
Nobody at Marvel wants to do it
Dynamite is willing to pay cash to use the license
It's that fricking simple
Hm, sounds like it might be cool.
I'll catch the storytime if someone goes for it.
Meg is not that flat, she has boobs, draw her accurately.
>He was the head writer for the Netflix era of the cult series Mystery Science Theater 3000
Yikes.
Disney really doesn't care about the quality of their tie-in material, do they?
That's really cool. Have any other Disney movies gotten comic book adaptations that I'm unaware of?
>Elliott Kalan
That's an ex Dailyshow writer that had A LOT of failures.
He wrote for HouseBroken, The Patton Oswalt MST3K revival, etc.
Tried to write for the MCU but even his connections and ass kissing didn't take him that far.
