Early in RoboCop (1987), before his resurrection as the title cyborg, Murphy is captured by Boddicker’s gang. They don’t seem to mean any real harm, merely getting pleasure out of incapacitating Murphy and and taunting him. But then they start dismembering him. How does this tonal shift make you feel?

I remember flipping through channels when I was little and stumbled upon the scene in Robocop 2 when they torture the crooked cop to death. Fricked me up for a bit.
I was a kid back when that first came out and I remember thinking something was off about that scene. Recently watched it again and that scene was gay as frick.
What the frick was his problem?
Bitches hadn’t departed the premises yet.
He was a White man living in Detroit rubbing elbows with the dregs of society.
Women of a noted sexually loose disposition were occupying the premises.
Cops didn't like him
Robocop was being a dumbass.
as my hairline has grown in similarity to boddicker's with every passing year, i am coming to realize he did absolutely nothing wrong.
He was tired of Forman's shit.
He didn't have his foot in anyone's ass.
gosh he's so handsome
what a sham they had to cover most of his face 99% of the time
Watch Naked Lunch
Time for our William Tell routine.
This movie was so fricking boring I couldn't bother finishing it past the halfway mark
If I loved Burroghs's Cities of the Red Night trilogy, will I enjoy this?
They made it really clear at the very start of the movie that Boddicker was a cop killer and responsible for dozens of police officer murders. The reason Murphy even came there was being transferred to fill the slots of all the dead cops.
Fricking lies
Murphy says at the start of the film he has no idea why he was transferred
Then during the Miguel Ferrer bit where he talks to the old man, he says they have placed prime candidates for Robocop in key high risk areas
So he wasn't filling the slots of dead cops. OCP sent him to die so they could get his brain because he was a good cop
OCP sent him to fill the slot of dead cops because that was the best way of making sure he'd die.
Murphy says OCP was moving a lot of guys there, and it's just after a scene where the TV says Boddicker is identified as wanted for the deaths of dozens of cops by an officer who is in severe condition in the hospital. Then as Murphy is meeting everyone, that guy dies in the hospital. He was definitely filling an open spot, and the Robocop project hadn't been greenlit yet.
And as proof 6:34 here
>We have restructured the police department and placed prime candidates according to risk factor
Next scene it cuts to Murphy waiting on Lewis outside the coffee shop just before they go after Clarence's gang
He can still be doing both? Cops were definitely being killed there and lots of slots were open. And the criminals were getting away with so many killings since they working with Dick Jones so he could justify his ED-209
It was absolutely shocking. Prior to that they just seemed like merry pranksters, essentially harmless. Clarence even jokes around with one-liners like "Can you fly, Bobby? and the black guy cheekily shows Lewis his BBC. When they actually start torture-murdering Murphy it feels like a complete 180 from what we saw before.
If you're not really paying attention to what the cops are saying or what's happening, then I guess it could come off that way. Murphy and Lewis certainly knew they were extremely dangerous murderers.
> Murphy and Lewis certainly knew they were extremely dangerous murderers.
The frick they did. Go into factory by themselves. No backup. Then, split up. Then Lewis gets knocked out looking at BBC leaving Murphy by himself with a bunch of killers. Idiot cops. So don’t care if backup is 2 hours. You pull back and block the entrance.
You dont get promotions or honor that way, pussy.
Don’t get promoted being dead either, moron. And you would not get promoted being that stupid
>Don’t get promoted being dead either, moron
Sure you dont, you just get a shiny new body and free baby food for no reason
You clearly don't have what it takes to be a citizen of the federation.
>imagine being too stupid to understand Robocop
this might be shocking if you're young enough that robocop was among the first action movies you saw. Not that there's anything wrong with that. But the gang was stereotypical wild criminals that you would see in Death Wish or similar 70's/80s crime movies. The criminals would act like hooligans while raping and it was not strange. The rape robocop stops also has them acting this way.
That archetype fell out of fashion after the 80s however. Rape and rapists became much more serious business
they were waiting for him to relax
the gang of vicious murderers is an allegory of real life's random detroit citizens
verhoeven didn't want to be to on the nose
this part was pretty weird too
damn she was hot
Fortress (1992)
As a kid? It terrified me. My memories of it were so much worse than what was actually happening on screen. In fact I was scared to watch robocop again for decades because the embedded itself so deeply into me.
As an adult they were just too cartoonishly evil and I couldn't wait to see them get killed.
its just supposed to be an abrupt shock
where you suddenly shift from regular movie violence you expect to verhoven ultra-violence
weird, as a kid it made me watch the movie like 5 times again right away
It seems like you're too pure to understand the criminal mind.
>2023
>still no Nukem game to play with the whole family
Verhoven wanted the scene to replicate Christ’s crucifixion
They had shotguns in Jesus times?
Yes. China had gunpower for hundreds of years already at that point.
I'm no history expert but I think that's wrong
China did the iron curtain thing way before the soviets did. You have no idea what they were doing especially after they burned all the books and murdered all the scholars
We Wuz Changs?
a careful examination of the sources reveals the Lance of Longinus was actually a mass driver on lend-lease from the Arcturan Federation
Watch the movie again, there is no tonal shift. From the very beginning we know hes a cop killer. The joking side of him is just the other facet of his personality.
That wasn't a tonal shift. Robocop 3 was a tonal shift from the rest of the series, this was just set up and enhanced the sadistic nature of the gang.
I still laughed when he went nah nah nah nah then shot Murphy
I'D BUY THAT FOR A DOLLAR!
I remember when I was a kid I literally thought you could get prostitutes to come to your house for a dollar. I also though they were norting dishwasher powder, I think my c**t older brother told me that.
But that line was never about homecall prostitutes or any prostitutes
What happened to the video "RoboCop Alternate Beginning" on YouTube where Clarence just goes "Nah nah nah nah nah nah" over and over again and never shoots Murphy? That was hilarious. Shame it was taken down.
This what you looking for?
>Officer Lewis
>Strong well written female character
>First scene is her punching the shit out a perp
>Can handle herself and takes no shit
>Is smart too, works out Robocop is Murphy due to a chat about TJ Lazer
>Think they cast a woman in what could have been a man's part because why not
>Realise entire plot rests on her being distracted by BBC
Concerning
And then she becomes a jobber in Robocop 3.
I’m fine with it. Dr lazarus was hot
>scenes that make you hungry
>her
Huh?
RoboCop is genderless. It's sort of like how the Titanic was referred to with female pronouns despite not having a gender.
>It's sort of like how the Titanic was referred to with female pronouns despite not having a gender.
Ships are always called "her", moron
that make you hungry
*Thirsty for slurpees
It's kind of funny seeing all these boomers, Gen-xers and millennial manchildren congregate in Robocop threads. After seething about every other modern film, trying to pick apart plot holes in acclaimed movies, all of you gather around to circlejerk this dumb piece of shit. Kek. Just goes to show most of the seethe in Cinemaphile comes from seeing their nostalgia manchild flicks get supplanted by modern manchild flicks.
>Robocop
That's a weird way to spell "Titanic".
>I’m shit
You a shit
Painfully obvious this person comes here to shill streaming shows full of diversity Black folk.
He's yanking your chain moron
>ah! you miss good movies and hate bad movies!
But robocop is objectively a masterpiece and all your modern entertainment combined can't hold a candle to it?
Pretty sure that's the reason. All the stuff made for you is bad

mid
Mad Max's action makes Roboslop look like B-movie. Oh wait, it was kek.
Fury Road's action is boring and repetitive, has no dialogue or characters, and the second half sucks.
Typical modern subpar movie with AAAAA budget. Road Warrior did way more with way less.
And comparing it to Robocop... lmao.
>Fury Road's action is boring and repetitive
Unlike, Robo-man move slowly and shoot, movie. KEK.
>iT'S NOT WEGHTLESS CGI MAN JUMPIN AROUND! OH NO!!!
Bulky robot looks and moves awesome.
Stay mad, zoom zoom
Still zero good movies in your gen
>>iT'S NOT WEGHTLESS CGI MAN JUMPIN AROUND! OH NO!!!
>Fury Road
>CGI man
Kekw.
some of you are stuck in 2010 and its time to move on
Robocop was the degeneracy of its time. All the public outcry agreed. Are you a degenerate or do you hate Robocop?
If it's a great movie no one cares about plot holes
Are there any recent examples where the villains go this hard and indulge in gratuitous violence?
Gore wise? Maybe Pinhead and Hellraiser. About it
You may like Skibidi toilet boomer.
IT
Not a villain per say, since he doesn't kill anyone. But his contestants usually make the wrong choice.
>Not a villain per say, since he doesn't kill anyone
excuse me what
he kidnaps people and indirectly mutilates them and kills them
If I put you in a cage and make you fight to death with a dog then I'm the murderer if it kills you
Yeah but if I chose not to fight the dog it would be my fault. Also, they mutilate themselves.
Tell me, how did the key get behind the eye in the first place?
>charges, officer?
Casino Royale ball torture scene
>Tonal shift
>ED-209 turning that one guy into ground beef
Frick off, twat.
Jesus - had days like this. Hounded and attacked like a criminal. But like him, I don't blame you. They program you, and you do it.
>They don’t seem to mean any real harm
Are you moronic?
>If I poke you right here, will you die?
was this really necessary
huh
It was some reboot trilogy of Robocop that was absolutely terrible and tried to rope viewers in with stuff like that webm. They were bad. I don't have words to describe just how bad they were. Even Robocop 3 looks like a fricking masterpiece compared to them.
fun fact, that segment was directed by the director of this
It's from a 2014 fan film that was directed by about 50 different filmmakers.
Is the 2014 remake worth watching?
Sanitized version with cartoon villains.
It does nothing right, not even visually.
It was unrealistic that a guy like Boddicker would hang out with that black gay guy who kept laughing like a moron. Before you go “yeah because he was useful to have around” no he wasn’t he jobbed to a cardboard box at one point. It’s unrealistic that Clarence wouldn’t have shot him himself before the climax of the movie.
Anon they immediately try to shoot him with a shotgun and he kills one of them. Then they shoot him with a shotgun.
They were cop killers. They were toying with him before the kill.
