I give it a 0/10. Wouldn't watch again, wouldn't recommend it. It's just him aimlessly fricking around. There is no story in it. No substance. It gets praise for lez pozz.
It gets praised because it's fricking deranged. The opera scene and the bedroom scene really switch the mood up. I thought it was a boring dyke drama but it was much more.
No, that’s Inland Empire. Mulholland Drive does have a story, jesus christ, it even came with “clues” to understand the story when it was released on DVD. Take two seconds to Google it. The best part about Lynch was that his works although surreal and bizarre, and often seemed like directionless bullshit spliced together — actually told a story beneath the madness. Mulholland Drive is a prime example of this. It’s my favourite Lynch film even though it’s probably the normie pick. Inland Empire is when Lynch become what everyone previously wrongfully accused him of, just aimless bullshit with no story, no meaning, “it means whatever you want it too!” It’s also why I dislike The Return, no real explanations or storytelling going on beneath the surface, just random shit spliced together for the sake of being abstract and artsy.
after watching most of his works, mulholland drive is up there, but it's not his masterpiece inland empire, or his perfect movie blue velvet. I feel like most people obsessed with this one movie haven't seen the rest of his movies.
It's a great film, I find something meaningful every time I've seen it. But I think Lost Highway is a better lynch movie (you came because you expected his style) and elephant man remains his best non-lynch movie (you came expecting a conventional movie and got that with extra). But I haven't seen the straight story or inland empire. Wild at heart is my favorite, probably because it was my first. It's got plenty of flaws, but it's raw and weird in great ways.
Mulholland Doctor?

David Lynch is trash

Blue velvet and wild at heart are better
For me, it's Inland Empire.
