This. I grew up a gay man in the 1970s and it wasnt uncommon at all for a bunch of men to surround me and beat me up. I took up martial arts as a teenager and I never let anyone bully me ever again and my husband and I have sat down and had a talk about how society is changed but homophobia is rampant and sometimes you just need to punch a fascist right in the fricking teeth to make them back off and that its empowering and reminds gay bashers that they're the ones that need to stay "closeted", not me. I'm a proud gay man and I always will be.
