>Because the other places where the show is discussed are pretty dead nowadays
Fair. It does bum me out seeing the circles EW is kind of "owned by" these days, cringey kids and the people who wanna groom them. I kinda wish the series ended again. I am happy that 'The End' isn't the actual finale because it was absolute dogshit, but these new eps Matt and Bing have been cranking out just haven't been all that entertaining. I genuinely hope they just send the series off with a fun episode without tumblr melodrama inserted in.
Matt Sucks mogs everything else
Matt Sucks is my other favourite. Moviemakers edges it out by a hair because it has the free chocolate joke
I like this one the best. Also my favorite is either spares, or zanta 2. Zanta 2 was the first episode I saw so it's also got some "sentimental value".
Zoomers already went batshit on twitter and tumblr because one of the recent comics made a reference to "This World Of Edds", an ableist and problematic episode. (according to Zoomers)
>"This World Of Edds", an ableist and problematic episode. (according to Zoomers)
ableist because...edd's mental health goes off the rails? i get that twitter would get its' panties in a bunch over a suicide joke but what exactly was ableist about it?
Wow, so Edd bravely chose to portray a way he copes with trauma and these people on twitter are mad about it? What a bunch of bigots.

It also made them mad at Matt for referencing this in a recent comic, calling him also an ableist bigot.
Trying to pander to that audience was and always will be a mistake.

i mean the primary audience for eddsworld is children. in a situation like this all you really have to do is ignore the retarded ones on twitter and you'll be fine. it is obnoxious though

Maybe the primary, but the primary audience is obviously not the loudest in this case.
It's a small minority of mentally ill people who have been using the internet unsupervised for far too long.

And don't get me started on the "kins".
People "kinning" the characters, roleplaying as them irl and online.
Zoomers already went batshit on twitter and tumblr because one of the recent comics made a reference to "This World Of Edds", an ableist and problematic episode. (according to Zoomers)
I remember how much negativity Saloonatics got at first but recently Zoomers started claiming it to be an "all time classic"; celebrating all sorts of styles in animation when in reality it was just a very rushed episode where the main animator took lots of creative freedom.
Amerifats would have a diabetes induced heart attack if they found out the rest of the world doesn't use their retarded zoomer meme
Has there ever been a show more ruined by a single episode? Eddsworld's viewership has been permanently infested with fujos and it's all because of this one episode
Eddsworld's popularity has weirdly spiked from time to time even during the years of complete inactivity. It's just this strange undercurrent of children who latch on to slash art and the melodrama which The End introduced. It bugs me, admittedly more than it should, how these fans have romanticized and fetishized this show when all it ever was was a funny cartoon
A little, yeah. Not to mention writing his angst about Edd's death into the show. All things considered I can forgive Tom for his faults running EW legacy, he fulfilled his obligations and then rightly moved on. Personally I take a lot more issue with fans obsessively shipping real people together like what happened to Paul and Patryk
Yeah, sucks that they screwed over some guy because of a few cameos in the show
Not sure how the fandom is nowadays, since i'm not active there anymore
Only thing i know is that it got filled with a bunch of kids around 2021 but it seems to have died down

The real beauty of it is that in 18 years I never once noticed that. There's a handy lesson for any aspiring animators out there, shortcuts are cool
Zanta Claws II was better jokes overall but that Christmas Demolition and battle sequence is one of the best ones in the series
So while i think 2 is funnier, i like to rewatch 3 more
Saloonatics was by far the worst looking episode of the entire series
It was the absolute low of the Tom era (minus the Finale) where it became extremely blatant that he was just using the show as a hiring mill for his other shitty tumblr buddies.
It looks more like a fan animation than anything that belongs in the series.
Paul Ter Voorde's style was different, but it was still a noticeable adaptation of Edd's style. This is just rubbish.
I remember how much negativity Saloonatics got at first but recently Zoomers started claiming it to be an "all time classic"; celebrating all sorts of styles in animation when in reality it was just a very rushed episode where the main animator took lots of creative freedom.
I didn't find the animation that bad but it really felt like it wasn't the same show
My main problem with the episode is the humor
It all felt like it was from some Twitter artist's cartoon pilot rather than an Eddsworld episode
Yeah. Things like the gay panic "my ass" joke with the blushing felt completely offbrand for eddsworld. Other things like inserting Undertale characters as extras really didn't help, but then again Edd would randomly do shit like throw in Ron Swanson so...eh
Paul Ter Voorde's style is what people think of when they think about Legacy. I agree about Saloonatics not looking good but it was just 1 episode which make it easier to brush off
By the way, this was supposed to be animated by the same guy who animated PowerEdd, but it was given to someone else because he was working on some project
You know the phrase "there's a sucker born every minute"? Well, this applies pretty heavily to fandoms too. Eddsworld, for better or worse, is mainly watched by tweens these days. You can't really fault any one of them for not seeing the difference between a Hammer & Fail and a Saloonatics, to them all they see is "funny cartoon". For every seasoned fan that can tell the difference, you have 100 tweens who just discovered EW for the first time
Most of them don't know because they weren't there. I started watching Eddsworld in 2010 around when WTFuture first came out and Edd was still alive, so Tom lost me as soon as hammer and fail came out because it just wasn't the same. Most people who are younger than us were not able to see the transition happen in real time and are therefore less aware that it even happened. I'm sure that some of the newest fans dont even know that Edd died and just assume that all the differences between the old and new episodes are just because the series "evolved" over time, not because the author literally changed to a different guy.
Hammer & Fail was still written by Edd, the first episode fully-written by Tom was Space Face
weirdly i think hammer and fail has the best plot. the setup and payoff for the resolution was clever and eddsworld was never known for that kind of thing, they're mostly just meandering and fucking around with a basic concept (and i say this in a loving way.) i think edd's work was inevitably going to change as he grew older even if he was alive today. there's something magical about the youthful exuberance in his early works that he wouldn't be able to replicate forever. it's truly magical how much effort he put into these funny little toons about him and his friends fucking around that he really didn't need to. there's something pure about it.
But you could tell that the writing became slowly Tomsworld over time until Legacy, where Tom is always the main focus point of funny moments and quotes.
Edd became a background character.
Current show is trying to mimic the old style but I feel like it's far too often all over the place. It's either as choppy and stylized as the old seasons, or it's uncomfortably smooth.
I wish there was no betrayal storyline to begin with. I would've much preferred the show end on one more comfy final hurrah featuring Tord instead of wallowing in Tom's depression and making Tord le evil mcmeanieface
If Fundead had an actual Tord cameo and was the finale, it would've been perfect tbh
Edds original wish for a final episode was for lots of gory murders and drama, only for the camera to zoom out, showing irl Edd in front of his computer in his room, animating.
He also mentioned in an old stream that he'd cash in all the favors others owed him (like Egoraptor and other animators) to animate an entire episode.

If Fundead had an actual Tord cameo and was the finale, it would've been perfect tbh
I would have preferred if the Zombies attacked, along with the Aliens, all sorts of Monsters and other villians from past Episodes and the gang (including the return of Tord) fight them all off.
I'm guessing he'd try pitching Super Average on a network and do some work for the industry
As for Eddsworld, he'd either end it or make an animation once in a while
Realistically, we'd probably have gotten Eddsworld Plays. Maybe some sort of TV show? Politics would've probably thrown a wrench in things somewhere. And Edd may have very well gone on to create some other new IP separate from Eddsworld
I was there for the original run and left after Edd died, maybe watching like one or two after-Edd episodes. I was bewildered once i learned a few years ago that Eddsworld was still going and was somehow more popular than ever.
It still feels strange to me that Edd is long-gone but a show about his world is more popular than ever because of children who started watching long after he's dead.
Do they consider the original episodes the best? What do they think of it all? For some reason the existence of the modern Eddsworld community fascinates me
>Do they consider the original episodes the best?
Currently i think it's split 50/50 between the original episodes and Legacy >What do they think of it all?
The original run? Unanimously positive of it
In general? Legacy and especially Beyond are somewhat controversial nowadays
They really need to rethink their approach with Beyond. I appreciate the return to a consistent art style reminiscent of Edd's, but the episodes are seriously kneecapped by poor comedy. All the jokes feel milquetoast at best and outright alien at worst due to bad timing. They started strong with Fanmail 2 and Casting Call but since then none of the new videos have even made me crack a smile. Surf and Turf wars was a painful sit and absolutely didn't warrant a 20min+ runtime
I don't know why they decided to make every single episode 10+ minutes long, both parts of Surf and Turf Wars are nearly as long as the Legacy finale when they could've easily been just one episode
Like half of the first part was just a bunch of random gags
Zanta Claus II and it's not even close >The exploding choir >Edd shifting into Gear Z >Tom's beautiful eyes >"Weren't there four of you last time?" >WHICH ONE DO I SHOOT
WTFuture, I don't even know why you're asking
WTFuture is pretty kino and had the best premise, but i prefer Hammer & Fail because it had more jokes

That part where a Macintosh desktop gets a Windows BSOD was pretty funny.

why'd you make this thread twice?
i'm partial to moviemakers but hammer and fail is kind of where edd's style hit its' peak admittedly

My favorite gag from that episode is when the CEO of the internet slips on a cable and the building blows up
that episode has a lot of banger jokes
I like the Christmas episode but mostly just for the rap
Zanta Claws III?
Less is more. The last panel should not have any words

If you say so.
I like this one the best. Also my favorite is either spares, or zanta 2. Zanta 2 was the first episode I saw so it's also got some "sentimental value".

Because he's going insane, playing with puppets.
Seriously, that's their claim.
It's ableist because some people use puppets/plushies to cope.
I use puppets to coom

Eddsworld's popularity has weirdly spiked from time to time even during the years of complete inactivity. Zanta easily. The real question is Zanta 2 or Zanta 3?
Zanta Claws II was better jokes overall but that Christmas Demolition and battle sequence is one of the best ones in the series
So while i think 2 is funnier, i like to rewatch 3 more

i don't know whether it's good or bad that 90% of eddsworld's fanbase don't notice the drop in quality after edd's death
peraphs it's because Legacy looks better on a technical aspect so it somewhat even out despite the writing/jokes being worse
I still prefer Edd's style, it has more soul
Oh yeah dw i agree, I was just pointing out why most people don't notice the quality drop

I think Fun Dead is the best of all the legacy episodes.

it peaked at Hammer & Fail

I've seen a bunch of people say that it was gonna be a musical, but i haven't found a source of that claim
I kinda miss the Edd/Tord rivalry
In retrospect I'm annoyed they killed Jon. His dynamic with Eduardo was really good
Same, i honestly wished that they made Ghost Jon a recurring character
No, Jon sucked dick
Fuck off, Mark. No one likes you >:(
Do you have any What Ifs related to this show?
What if they actually let Zanta be the new fourth guy?
I'm guessing we'd get some episodes of the trio clashing with Zanta while on adventures
I’d laugh.
