DC still doesn't want to accept the fact that letting Batgay and Supergay editors turn Hal into a bad guy was a bad idea despite Geoff and Tomasi proving them wrong after reversing it.

This is bait, the effects of people growing up with John Stewart as their Green Lantern are still here today

      >the effects of people growing up with John Stewart as their Green Lantern are still here today
Those effects are both negative and overexaggerated due to the fact that the JLU audience never followed up on the material after finishing the show or take into the account the Injustice games or GL tv show which has Hal, not John, as the main Green Lantern.

John is just the black guy of the justice league. Literally. Writers can't choose whether he was an architect or an army man or both, he has no nemesis, and has no feats.
      >inb4 muh mosaic
Mosaic was written by a pedophile and DC will never bring it back
In comparison to Cyborg from Teen Titans who's not just "le black guy": Dude's got a nemesis in Grid, has made it to other teams like the Justice League and the Doom Patrol, and at least has a memorable catch phrase

        >Dude's got a nemesis in Grid, has made it to other teams like the Justice League and the Doom Patrol, and at least has a memorable catch phrase
He only made it to the JL because he's black like John remember?

He was an established character before. Sure, he didn't work in the justice league as well as the titans, but thanks to the show he still had his whole backstory behind him.

DC should have stolen Steel from Superman and turned him into a stand-alone hero for the New 52.
All the Apokolips crap they grafted onto Cyborg already fits with Steel's early fight with Intergang.

DC hates Steel (for the shaq movie?) Instead of exploring the character more, they create Superobama and Val Zod

This is no comment of the execution but, I would say it just comes down to it being easy to replace him. His power comes down to the Lantern Ring, you really can give anyone a ring. He works for the Corps that is full of other Green Lanterns, that just opens up the possibility for other characters.

      >I would say it just comes down to it being easy to replace him.
But it's not easy to replace Hal tho. They give him a bigger cast because you can't fill in the void if you take him out. Imagine if they retired Hal and replaced him with John Stewart. The sales would be as good as when Jess and Simon got their own run.

          >it's easy, we just need someone really good to do it
Easier said than done dude. Doesn't help that they held him down for a decade after many years of awful writers until Geoff, people want him to stay.

But the Kyle Rayner era and the Thorne run say otherwise.

Because he is the easiest hero in all of comics to replace. The Guardians hand a ring out to someone else, instant workable believable origin.

      This^^^

If you need an instant minority or someone on the JLA, in the same JLA tier of power just stick a power ring on a Black Woman, Native American guy, Chinese Lady etc. No need to explain shit, describe powers, introduce shit, it all makes sense and can be handled in one page.

    >Why does DC keep trying to replace him?
Horrible baggage. In order to establish that he Dindu Nuffin, some writer declared that his name change to Parallax in Zero Hour was actually possession by the Yellow Fear Demon. This stuck enough that the YFD was used as the generic skybeam threatening Earth in that garbage movie Ryan Reynolds hated making.

      >Horrible baggage
Some characters like Captain Marvel or any major X-gay have worse baggage but the real reason was because they wanted money quick before stopping to realize what people liked about the character in the first place.

Hal and Guy are the best Green Lanterns because they're not paragons of reason or morality, but the do embody the idea of willpower. Their tendency to push forward despite all better judgement is both their greatest personal failing and the literal source of their power. Other lanterns can have their merits, but they just can't compare to the greats.

    JL(U) did better with John.
DC Super Hero Girls needs a girl GL to be "canon".
Nobody liked Hal's movie, not even Hal's actor.
How popular is the Green Lantern cartoon with him?

      >JL(U) did better with John.
No they didn't. All John got was a terrible love subplot with Hawkgirl and an arc that was a Hal Jordan original story repurposed with John.

John did nothing that show. They didn't even expand on him or the other lantern corps. The most they did was Despero (?) which was a justice league villain to begin with. The truth is John has nothing in the corps, the writers of JLU went ahead and put Sinestro and Star Saphire but realized too late both need Hal to be relevant.

        >the writers of JLU went ahead and put Sinestro and Star Saphire but realized too late both need Hal to be relevant.
They did the same with his awful movie. Where they tried to push Green Arrow and Sinestro on him.

This is what Denny O'Neil and Neil Adams wanted all along. Bruce Timm was just honoring his heroes' legacy.

If there was ever a time and place for another DC reset, it would be now. How the hell is Hal supposed to be threading new ground now when he's gone against monsters like Sinestro, Parallax, Black Hand, Volthoom, and so on? You saw how he made the Nightmare event villain look like a chump.
