Elemental had a downright un-Pixar level plot. Even the movies I'm not crazy about from Pixar I feel had better stories. But this has just so much back-tracking it's ridiculous. I still like the movie for its sappy romance stuff though. And Thomas Newman's music
it's a stupid concept that doesn't work to begin with.
Toy Story works
Inside out is passable
Elemental is a failure
acquire media literacy or describe your problem with the story.
Going back to the leaking canal like 3 freaking times is a bit much.
gun gotta use his chekhov
Ember is shown being hurt by water in the basement early on in the film, then she's shown being able to touch and kiss Wade, then after that she causes Wade to evaporate when they're trapped in the small room at the end. There's no explanation given why they can touch other than
>uhhhh magic?
And the audience is given multiple examples of how Ember and Wade can't touch.
sounds like you want a scientific explanation to why they can touch or kiss. you're wasting your time trying to rationalize fictional characters in fantasy worlds. watch the movie for the story and characters, not for who pumps the batmobile's tires
>not for who pumps the batmobile's tires
sick line, btw.
If you use the specific heat equation on the scene where they both touch hands for the first time, Ember's hand alone is the same temperature of molten steel.
If you perform the same set of calculations for other parts of the show, her body is hotter than the surface of the sun.
It is indeed a fantasy world, the only things we know about it is what they tell or show to us.
Why can't they be consistent with their own details?
there's no explanation for why they can touch, it's more about visualizing how it would look. Wade's arm is boiling and Ember's arm is flaring up, as expected there's steam and bubbles but they manage to do it.
It was more unbelievable when they thought they couldn't touch. Maybe if Ember's family had only arrived and were the first fire people... but not when there are already entire fire communities. You're telling me not a single kid got curious all that time?
This movie's lack of internal logic triggers my autism. I'll admit I found their relationship to be adorable, but what kid wants to watch a romcom?
It found AN audience apparently. I don't know if it was really popular with kids but it did make back its budget.
I enjoyed the movie. It wasn't as bad as wreck it ralph 2, that's for sure
Well said. Personally, I didn't like it but I did enjoy it.
Not just that, but the racism within the movie is literally justified, fire people can easily maim other elements, they have all the right to protect themselves.
yeah it made money but it was shit, what's new?
I feel like Pixar has gotten bogged down in this "we have no villains to show how morally complex our stories are!" mindset. Everything now is just about clashing cultural or generational differences and lack of communication. I'm not saying you can't make a good movie that way, but in their case it really gets in the way of these fantasy concepts they're working with
I think Elemental was just a bad concept too.
Elemental is proof that anything Pixar craps out will get nominated at the Oscars no matter what.
except when it isn't. Granted, only rare exceptions.
We've already known for a long time that the old farts who vote don't respect animation and just write down whatever shut up their grandkid for the longest
I don't think human character design has ever really been a strength of Pixar. I like The Incredibles art style though but imagining something like that, or the humans in Inside Out in the climax of Turning Red makes me shudder.
Like having Riley from Inside Out do this would be like having the Circle of Life animals do I Just Can't Wait to be King. Or that awful TLK 2019
ugh why were so many posts removed from this thread.
20s Pixar (so far) is better than 10s Pixar and I'm tired of pretending it's not.
Well 10s Pixar had Inside Out and Coco, which I don't think have been surpassed in the 2020s (though I am a Turning Red schizo). It is true though Pixar's been bogged down for a long time though.
Coco is about as flawed as Elemental premise-wise.
OK can you explain? About Coco.
