They're not ll twinks with the exception of the Wings guys and maybe a few others, but yeah watching anime in general past a certain age alienates me a bit because it's basically hard to relate to guys who are so young and yet have so much skill, knowledge and responsibility. Gundam still makes clear that they're "chosen ones" with the Newtype magic stuff and You do see seasoned older guys piloting grunts, but yeah... it still is stuff made for kids, even if they have deaths and dark stuff.
Fujos were one of the key demographics that saved Gundam when the original came out, and so Sunrise has always been eternally chained to that audience. It also makes them easy for self-insert material with the male audience.
