The OST by itself was 10/10.

OP here finally got the right image

As I get older I realize this show has maybe 10 good episodes in a 26 episode run which is 30 if you count the movie. I liked the movie.

Recommend me one single anime/manga without little girl characters in it.

      Complete garbage.
      -Really bad exposition
-Laughable, over the top character emotions
-Characters talk to themselves non stop
-25 episodes of content dragged out to 75 episodes

I reckon if i was in my early 20s i would think it's amazing. But i'm not, i know a bit about writing and how to convey information in a piece of media. And Monster fails all the basics.

      >i saw it on tv when i was a kid and never watched any of watanabes other shows
      Yeah we know already.

I don't get Monster. I read the manga and it just seems like one of those stories where the antagonist is 18 steps ahead of everyone playing 18d chess while not actually being that smart (because obviously, the author is just a normal guy) and 90% of the drama is caused by the MC worrying about what will happen.

      >the antagonist is 18 steps ahead of everyone
Very typical trope in manga unfortunately. Mostly because it's aimed at middle schoolers, and they like to feel really superior to all those pesky adults that they're angry at (like their teachers and their father etc).

If you want a really hilarious example of that shit, check out death note.

Pretty sure nothing Urasawa has done has been aimed at middle schoolers. In fact, he's a rarity in the genre. Look at his big three: Monster, 20th Century Boys and Pluto. I just got through re-reading them so they're fresh in my mind which is what irks me about your clueless take.
        >few examples of realistic facial features resembling actual humans in manga
Does that sound like its aimed at the typical age-bracket?
        >strongly favors stories that are largely focused around middle-aged adults in their 30-40s as the main characters
How often do you EVER see that aside from a few rare exceptions like LotGH?!
Pacing issues in the anime aside, you could not be more wrong.

Yeah, I find 300iq moves like Joseph Joestar sneakly drawing a map of Kairo with his ability while he fell on the floor to find the nearest oil drum so he can drown the parasite on his arm to be much more "intelligent" writing than all of those 18D chess subversions that Johann had in Monster, clearly a smart character written by a not so smart person. Most fights in JoJo for example have some twist to them that you have to be genuinely intelligent to come up with, despite the gay troony aesthetic of the comic.

Anime starts making more sense when you realize the best the medium has to offer is only because they're far and above the vast majority of other anime out there and not because they're actually great in a vacuum or good compared to a movie or book

If you don't like Bebop or Ghibli slop, well then you're shit out of luck cause there's probably less than 30 anime with artistic integrity that you probably also will or will not like

With books or movies, if you don't like Citizen Kane or The Sun Also Rises, you have hundreds or thousands of other things to enjoy on that same level to where it's perfectly justifiable not liking those things despite their canon status

Weebs have standards so low that Monster is one of the top rated anime with the universally agreed upon best villain of all time
It's about a secret nazi plot to raise the second Hitler so they got a random baby, they just happened to find the most fricked up insanely smart sadistic baby in the world. This baby grew up and then everyone at the nazi facility killed eachother leaving no survivors because Johan is pure evil and such a genius
Johan then gets adopted and kills his parents, then gives a gun to his adopted sister and tells her to shoot him in the head. Because he is such a perfect manipulator she does it without question but because Johan is so smart he perfectly manipulates the bullet into hitting him in the head in such a way that he would not die. So Johan goes to a hospital and gets his life saved by a doctor. Johan's next brilliant plan is to fake being in coma and while he is faking his coma he decides to frick with the doctor. He somehow gets a box of poison candy and while still in coma finds out every single enemy of the doctor and poisons them while in a coma in his room
Then one day Johan leaves the hospital and he somehow perfectly brainwashes thousands of people to be his blind slaves. He doesn't brainwash people like making up and ideology and indoctrinating people to follow him, no, he breaks down a person to the point that they're an empty vessel. He will snap his fingers and people around him will get a blank stare and go ''MUST...KILL.. TENMA... MUST KILL TENMA.'' He has magic powers, he can teleport all over the world, he can see the future.
He spent years of his life predicting every single move of the doctor who saved his life, he leaves clues in every single location he will ever visit years ahead of time. Johan will get in situations where he has a gun pointed at him and he just knows he won't get shot and people will just crumble when he says some pseudo-intellectual shit or just gives a smile, then walk away and teleport off-screen

I liked the setting of cold war germans speaking japanese. The animation is also very good. The story never gets anywhere though.

Just read 20 Century Boy and Billy Bat. Pluto as well. In fact, Mangas are just a whole lot better than Anime

      Truly Watanabe's actual 10/10

just think about how many music animes have tried to reach this level and failed while we have gotten stuff that has been on par with Cowboy and Champloo

lol same it's literally the worst anime ever. Absolutely forseeable plot (yeah I bet the protagonist is really gonna shoot the villain down when there's 40 episodes left)
also introducing shitty meaningless, disposable characters every few episodes while also emphasizing on their shitty background noone cares about just made me mad as frick
what a fricking pile of horseshit

There are only two anime worth watching that you can recommend as a blind recommendation.

Rurouni Kenshin: Trust and Betrayal (Movie/OVA)
    Legend of the Galactic Heroes

I've likely seen more anime than the average ret/a/rd and they'll tell you these two recommendations are hipster shit for anime cred (lol), but they are genuinely good. I don't even consider them anime.

I get what you're saying and as a millenial growing up with Rouroni Kenshin and 80s-90s OVAs but people will find something to nitpick in everything.
      >Rouroni Kenshin...wasn't the creator a...pedo?!"
      >Why does this space opera look so old and jank??

Honestly, the closest series that I'd blind recommend is Mushishi. Not counting stuff like Miyazaki which literally anyone will like, not that that's a bad thing.

Complaining about the way LOTGH looks isn't a nitpick, it barely passes as anime, it's closer to a power point slide show

As anime LoGH is pretty bad, hell, even the books are not that good. It's poorly directed, barely animated space opera about fujobait husks of characters with a bit of high-school level politics mixed into it. The scale is great, sure, but it doesn't change the fact that as show itself it's an insult to the genre of animation.

The story is self-contained, and the art-style, along with the atmosphere make it an easy recommendation. I am a very big Kenshin fan despite the controversy, and I still recommend it to anybody who would be looking for a Samurai drama. It excels at what it does, particularly in atmosphere.

this shitty anime is literally just some blonde homosexual going around and people are magically forced to go insane from his words, and they keep falling for it over and over again. Just a more homosexual version of O'Reily from Oz.

Monster was pretty good but is mainly carried by the side characters. In hindsight Johan's superpowers were a huge negative mark on his character.
    20CB > Pluto > Monster

Only true undisputed kino in anime is LoGH.

I liked pluto more than 20CB, after the last time skip the story becomes a mess, at least pluto was perfectly done from beginning to end
