Good morning, Emmy fans! Sadly, we're still in the doldrums of Dom's hiatus so the content available for the threads is being tapped dry. Last week we had concepts and sketches of Aunt Ginny's extended family from before the comic, and this week we have a bit of creative worldbuilding with the Dupont mural we saw a couple of weeks ago.
Dom refers to this second mural he posted as, "the other in it's present state during the comic's narrative". Not much to discuss given we already know Dupont, and the robotics industry there, have since declined or gone bust, but it does beg the question of *how*.
We know from the comic about anti-robot backlash that there were numerous often violent demonstrations, media demonizations and literary challenges towards androids. What the comic doesn't elaborate on is what the following "Dark Age" of robotics shaped out to be. So- what do you think came out of the turmoil in the decades before the comic? Is the comic still taking place in this so-named Dark Age, and if so how have Sterling and other contemporaries survived? Is this new Dark Age what created the outmode crisis as we're familiar with it from Emmy's training, or did it predate (or precipitate) the Dark Age of Robotics?

He's still drawing Emmy stuff though? Like there've been several patreon exclusive comics and sketches and things since the hiatus started. His entire patreon is just for Emmy stuff and occasionally videos of him drawing and inking or his design course.

And if this were because he had to do other work or something I'd understand, but this doesn't appear to be the case, instead it looks like he is just having a lot of free time that he is using to draw other characters in bikinis instead of continuing Emmy.

Okay, and? Just because it's been a month and half doesn't mean he's suddenly beholden to you, his one dollar patron, to go back to producing Emmy content. He's not abandoned Emmy, far from it with him releasing a major world building/history comic as well as a number of sketch pages about characters in the world. I don't see how being impatient or pissy about how he chooses to spend his hiatus is going to either shorten it or make him spend it working on Emmy stuff. All in all this just feels like the same ingratitude towards all the other fandom creators simply because they chose to do something else with their time and energy that wasn't making free art or taking requests for the threads here, and so you have to voice your disapproval because it's not exclusively catering to (You).
Of course he is not beholden to me, he is free to spend his time and resources however he pleases, just as I am free to unsubscribe from his Patreon if I feel like he is not delivering on what I joined there for. Think of it as voting with your wallet. Of course it is not going to have a noticeable effect on either my budget or his but it is a statement nevertheless.

This suggests that the Great Depression and/or the WPA was part of Emmy's history. Was this a response to, or a cause of, the "dark age of robotics" Dom mentioned?

I like the idea that they have some pre-loaded knowledge, but require demonstrations, trial and error, to really start to understand the thing they start out 'knowing'.

As expected of superior Sterling engineering! And that's a good idea about the stuff they would come pre-programmed with. In the comic we see them folding some clothes and I always thought, wouldn't a Nandroid just need to fold something once and they'd know it perfectly? Guess it's all part of the design to make them more 'human', requiring repetition

I mentioned it in a past thread long time ago, but I clearly remember a dream about a sanctuary mansion for nandroids and fandroids (i.e. Emmy, Molly, Lulu, Avery, etc...) and their anons who had all gone outmode at some point and went into hiding there after getting harassed in the outside world. The mansion got raided by the entirety of Sterling's tactical requisitions department. My dreams tend to just be long action sequences, and this one switched between the first-person perspectives of Avery and her anon as they single-handedly repelled the raid throughout the mansion with a couple of Winchester 1897s and grenades they scrounged off their attackers.
