If you want to do the classic ENA thing and read really hard into it, she's putting the mask on the other side of the elevator from her, like she's looking at herself from a distance. The mask isn't her, its her denying who she is. So whenever she uses it, she's watching everything at a distance from her real self.
I can see that. It's definitely not a friendly pose for them to be completely against the opposite walls, at least.
It makes me want to work on symbolism in my own art, since I couldn't make anything that feels like ENA, at least with my current skills.
Fair enough you can like ENA for different reasons, I like it for multiple but the series appealing to my appreciation for absurdist humor is one of them.

I am not sure it counts as a series in any traditional sense of the word. It is several disconnected vignettes that share characters in common but nothing else.

She's experiencing ennui, and trying to find joy in things other people are recommending. She was searching desperately, and her manic side was trying to get into it while her depressive side was dragging her down and kept finding nothing to latch onto. She went to therapy and found that she had to find joy in the little moments, and that the little moments are valuable BECAUSE they're little, and she managed to find some sort of solace in that, which is why her manic side stopped being a mask and re-formed as part of her face. It being a mask was because the tiny manic part of her was overwhelmed and she was like 90% depressive, and was barely tethered to her manic side, and right as they fully seperated she was luckily in therapy and managed to get herself some help.
I enjoy the series less and less as it goes on, its starting to feel like a showcase of "Look what cool visuals i can do" and they ARE cool...but if theres a supposed story to follow then it just feels like >So Random!

So, ENA is back to having a split personality, but this time she has a "mask" for the blue (depressed) side, as if she's trying to hide it. She goes on a little quest to find joy, but it doesn't seem to work, and it's revealed that she was just supposed to play ding-dong ditch and not go inside the place.
I'm guessing this takes place BEFORE Temptation Stairway, since that ended with Moony having a new form and ENA turning completely yellow.

I'm sorry but the new episode was completely obvious about the point, if you can't get that it was about loneliness and the need for therapy, I don't know how to help you with that.
I guess my complaint is more I found the dialogue too coherent. Like all the sentences were pretty cut and dry with no superfluous odd stuff like “what’s the data theta?”

Which really just doesn't fit with Ena's style.
Yeah it was on purpose, but I like Ena because of the madlibs style of the dialog, where the characters are all having conversations you can just grasp the edges of, as you float around with them.
Locations, conversations, actions don't make sense, but have some kind of logic to them.
Breaking that for a long dialog about therapy and 'how to find happiness' that is played straight, just fricks up the system.
It's sage advice from an otherworldly being about the pursuit of happiness to Ena, who has been having trouble masking their negative emotions around others, thus resulting in her overcorrecting to a self-destructive degree. I feel it was done very well.

This was really cool. I think Temptation Stairway is still the best with a stronger narrative, but the visuals and animation in this is top notch and really inspired; the 3D game segments are rad. Not as memorable with its dialogue and the very end fell flat for me IMO but a great short nonetheless.
Really enjoyed the short even when it was even more of a fricking drug fantasy than temptation stairway. Only thing that sucked is how shit the new Happy ENA voice is. It has no whimsy charm like the 2nd one did. I just don’t like it, damn it.
Yeah, I couldn't really tell. There was a kind of filter over it for most of it, and he wasn't quite as theatrical and over-the-top, but I'd chalked that up to the scenario.
From what I read he was in a toxic online clique discord with his gf, and he would guilt trip her into sleeping with her by suicide baiting. He also gave her an STI because he didn't wash his lower half.
Not if I keep it to myself and live a normal well adjusted life otherwise. I'll tell you one thing, I've never tried to creepily hit on women or any of that shit. I'm not even a waifugay, and I don't even have much of a sex drive these days - I've got plenty of other shit to do to keep busy. Let me explain, Auction Date was about well an auction. Extinction Party was about Ena looking for Moony. Temptation Staiway was Ena looking for the Great Runas. but in this... each and every dialogue is so painfully obvious in the message of "she is faking having fun, we get it". this "that is weird because it symbolizes this" idea is something so common and boring that it was the reason for Ena standing out so much above the others being nonsenses for the sake of it.
I noticed that there were certain parts that had a very marked style and I remembered that Vlif and JoelG seem to be great friends now, his style fits well in the universe but I think he likes to make strange things with very obvious metaphors. What's Wrong With Your Head was great but I don't want Ena to be like that.
Say what you want, but that drawing made me search for and damn, I need to finish seeing that masterpiece as it should.

Our cinema only seems to be made by pitucos writers with artificial and flat films, 90% is romantic comedies that seem to be written by some chibolo pulpin or Michelle Alexander, but then you have some small but interesting productions like Wiñaypacha or el Corazon de la Luna, both have problems such as amateur acting or concepts wasted but they do feel like something national (seriously, call your grandparents, or visit them directly, the soroche only revitalize your andean bonds)
In general our art, music, movies, video games, etc. is only products of mediocre rich people who want to imitate the trends in the world and with just a llama here or Carachama there, the best are short films and independent proposals where you find SOVL

Yeah, the concept of exploring the world of old 90's computer game aesthetics is a key to both of them and I'm interested to see where TADC goes with it. I mean, I'm not going to loiter in daily threads about it talking about nothing for the year or so I expect we'll be waiting til the next episode, but I'm interested in it, at least.
Kinda feels like they threw a bunch of the scrapped game concepts together as a stop gap. But the designs are some of the more interesting they've put out.

ENA will literally never be as popular as something designed for mass appeal with a clearer throughline like digital circus.
ENA is art and I will always love it far more for that even if I think Digital Circus is pretty good so far.

Everything has much more structure here, it's designed for the user's understanding, so it works on real world logic, not the special brand of crazy ENA actually gets. She's confused by her mask, she doesn't grasp how the story of the game is meant to be fun. There may even be an implication that when she bows through the curtain from the sewers she actually gets into the game itself, not just flowing through the game's program but is in what the user is experiencing. The npc there telling her that she is now part of the play and must fill her role. The old skull face recognizes she doesn't belong and says "Hey, sorry you're not enjoying yourself, but would you kindly get the frick out of here?"
Ivy was some game coordinator trying to get the bits where they need to be to run the game, she mistook ENA as a bit trying to find her place in the game
The therapist (skull face) was the director keeping everything organized and taking care of the user experience, he understood ENA's issue but also needed her to leave since she was disrupting the game
I'm sure this was all born from Joel working on the game and thinking to himself "I wonder how the ENA in my computer must see this program from her perspective?"

Upon rewatch (alongside the rest of the ENA videos) I think I appreciate this episode a lot more. The style and level of coherence is very different from normal but it still fits the series' absurd nature.
I believe it is important to note that the episode switches to its strange isometric style after she enters the door, and exits it after she leaves. I can see now how it was meant to be taken - that ENA was going into a world she isn't familiar with and missed the point until the very end.
For me, it was ENA having the opportunity to have a fairly coherent conversation even if it was with herself. Following her train of thought as she failed to get it made it all the better.

If you want to do the classic ENA thing and read really hard into it, she's putting the mask on the other side of the elevator from her, like she's looking at herself from a distance. The mask isn't her, its her denying who she is. So whenever she uses it, she's watching everything at a distance from her real self.

She was searching desperately, and her manic side was trying to get into it while her depressive side was dragging her down and kept finding nothing to latch onto. She went to therapy and found that she had to find joy in the little moments, and that the little moments are valuable BECAUSE they're little, and she managed to find some sort of solace in that, which is why her manic side stopped being a mask and re-formed as part of her face. It being a mask was because the tiny manic part of her was overwhelmed and she was like 90% depressive, and was barely tethered to her manic side, and right as they fully seperated she was luckily in therapy and managed to get herself some help.

This was really cool. I think Temptation Stairway is still the best with a stronger narrative, but the visuals and animation in this is top notch and really inspired; the 3D game segments are rad. Not as memorable with its dialogue and the very end fell flat for me IMO but a great short nonetheless.

Let me explain, Auction Date was about well an auction. Extinction Party was about Ena looking for Moony. Temptation Staiway was Ena looking for the Great Runas. but in this... each and every dialogue is so painfully obvious in the message of "she is faking having fun, we get it". this "that is weird because it symbolizes this" idea is something so common and boring that it was the reason for Ena standing out so much above the others being nonsenses for the sake of it.
I noticed that there were certain parts that had a very marked style and I remembered that Vlif and JoelG seem to be great friends now, his style fits well in the universe but I think he likes to make strange things with very obvious metaphors. What's Wrong With Your Head was great but I don't want Ena to be like that.

Upon rewatch (alongside the rest of the ENA videos) I think I appreciate this episode a lot more. The style and level of coherence is very different from normal but it still fits the series' absurd nature.
I believe it is important to note that the episode switches to its strange isometric style after she enters the door, and exits it after she leaves. I can see now how it was meant to be taken - that ENA was going into a world she isn't familiar with and missed the point until the very end.
For me, it was ENA having the opportunity to have a fairly coherent conversation even if it was with herself. Following her train of thought as she failed to get it made it all the better.
