I would try to befriend her, she would think my weird tastes, opinions and sincerity to be charming and I would probably ruin our relationship by being horny at some point doing something stupid and gross and she just stop talking to me, or me getting bored of any sort of human relationship and going back to talk with random people online on anonymous forums about my hobbies since I can talk to them but I don't have to commit to any sort of relationship.

There are tons of “anime inspired” Western shows out there. MAWS, She-Ra, Korra, Avatar, Voltron and so on. You aren’t unique for making a “le wacky space adventure” with a cute tomgirl and her racially ambiguous friends.
Come up with cooler, more outreaching designs, especially for the alien characters. Don’t make them recolored humans, make them wacky, detailed and complex. Give this tomboy character a reason as to why she’s in space.
Until then, I don’t see this going anywhere, even if industry creators constantly shill it on their social media accounts.

the trick with twitter is to put the link to the kickstarter in a separate linked tweet. its annoying but it works.
but twitter overall is actually falling fast as a kickstarter funding avenue. its down by a lot. do you have a bluesky? a lot of people have flocked there and it picks up some of the slack.
a space opera about a renegade working on the fringes of the galaxy, more in the style of a eurocomic than a western book, planned at around 60-ish pages in euromagazine format. if the first one does well we have plans for two or three more, each one a full self-contained adventure.

Marketing and outreach will definitely make or break Enceladus's success. It is TOUGH out here for any original cartoon, doubly so if it's indie and lacks the support of a major company. Creator needs to be quick on her feet and adapt to whatever methods get attention the fastest.

yeah i found it, also weird as an artist 14k seems pretty low. Especially for everything it's funding. 100k is considered low for a high quality pilot, i think the creator is lowballing to be nice and not seem as needy, but this is one of the lowest art projects i've seen. So maybe they are trying to make like a 3-5 min clip instead of a full pilot

I'd been posting TikTok animations for a while and they did well enough that I thought i might be able to make a secondary income doing it. I had savings but my wife is also unemployed, it's been really hard to find jobs this year (there's gonna be a huge lag in good material in the next couple of years) so paying for a 2 bedroom apartment depletes savings very quickly. We're still okay, and I was extremely lucky to find a short-term job on a short that I'm starting in a week, but it won't impede my work on Enceladus, mostly I'm just happy to have income again to try and recover some of the money we lost. Los Angeles sucks lol

I'm not funding the whole thing, just the shit I can't do by myself. I need a couple good visual development artists to help me design the ship, tech, and mecha, and to get really good work with notes and revisions and stuff is gonna cost me. Once I have designs I like, I can do backgrounds and props based on those.
I have friends who are graciously helping me with voice acting and some clothing/uniform designs for free, although I'd like to throw them some cash once I'm employed again.
But yeah, the Kickstarter is just paying for some specific design work and software costs.

I thought hard about how characters would view themselves and how they'd look after hundreds of years of breeding in a much smaller population, but I decided to give them specific races to make them more relatable. Although most of them just see themselves as Enceladons, Titanians and Hyperionites.
I named all the characters after astral bodies, Kiviuq is one of Saturn's moons, which is named after a hero from Inuit myth, so yeah he's Inuit and would've been from Canadian ancestry, and he's also got Slavic roots since his last name is Komarov, named for the first guy to die in space exploration, Vladimir Komarov.
Andi is named after Miranda which is a moon of Uranus (lol) and Kennedy space center, so she would've been from an Irish-American family.
Carme (named after a moon of Jupiter) obviously has Black American and Creole ancestry
Caliban is named after another moon of Uranus, and Krista McCullough was a teacher who died in the Challenger explosion (also a New Hampshirechad) so he'd be Irish-American too, but both voice actors I've been thinking about asking to play him are Mexican, so he could be part mestizo
Io is a moon of Jupiter and he's Blasian - specifically Black and Korean
There's another side character I'm working on, a thicc Macross style pop star girl who will be Latina
given his origin on the Titan, Io would have equally made sense as Aboriginal/Melanesian and Korean.
Much to think about, nothing is totally set in stone yet
I admire how much thought you've put into the worldbuilding and functionality of this show. Onyx Equinox similarly felt thoroughly researched, which is why it's that much sadder how it was handled. The characters of Enceladus V also seem like they make for a fun ensemble cast. Really wanna see this work out in the end. Enceladus V feels ambitious, but the short format fit for TikTok and the choppy but expressive animation style make it all feel within reach for anyone who's a fast enough and motivated enough creative. If anyone can make an indie project happen, it sure seems like you can.

Incredibly shady situation but I still want Onyx to continue.

The French do like their old anime. I think when it is culturally instilled in you drawing from sources and making it feel natural is a lot easier. You sort of just get you can't mix certain things. The internet has cause something of a timeline collapse though. Resulting in that "totally old anime" look, which products with genuine inspiration can unfortunately appear adjacent to.
Hey I'm rooting for ya but there is just a certain thing missing. To put it in less shitposty terms, the inspirations feel general so doesn't quite feel like their modernising a certain style. Its clear 90s mecha is the biggest influence. But even within that EVA , Escaflowne and Patlabor were pulling from very different sources. However I can also see 80s in there but really not nail down which and why. Drawing inspiration from a genre is hard, especially one already so referential and incestuous. So to create an authentic aesthetic you really have to be on point culturally to curate what you are drawing from. Most western creators struggle with this though and the fact I can see more than draw an eva unit in your work puts you above 99%. Hell most Japanese designs are very uninspired these days. I'll also admit to being a snob and if I saw Dunbine or 5 Star Stories inspiration instead of the stuff which is universally well liked I'd onions face for you.

Like they say natural bodies but most girls aren't round at best some have a little pudge and others are a bit chubby. I wish somebody would one day make a show in which "retro music " means "incomprehensible noise people liked in 2350 before we outlawed carfentanyl as an artificial sweetener and sounds like Korean Reggaeton backed by the sounds of street cats fricking" instead of blue öyster cult and little Richie.
Modern kids already think anime AMVs and the PS3 are retro, prog rock would be the stuff you put on human supremacist propaganda to advocate RETVRNING by then.

It's a weird situation. There isn't very much footage to work off of right now, but I do find indie animation makes for interesting discussion, especially when it's a project that shows promise. I've been hopping in and out of that Monkey Wrench thread for a while now. I think just one more thread after this would be cool, especially since we still have a bit until the campaign ends. Andi is a cute dorky protagonist!
That Monkey Wrench thread is the total opposite to this one. They're ripping that poor show to bits in there.
Yeah, but most of it is sincere criticism. I'm a Zeurel fan, and even I have my own issues with the passion project he's firmly planted his feet into.
