>gay men win again
I somewhat agree, although I do wish they had what “straight man yaoi” has in terms of depicting bonds. At least that was my takeaway of the post. There’s a lot potential that I don’t think has been tapped into. inb4 someone says otherwise. No, I’m not implying straight dudes that are close are gay.
Problem is if you do have a male friendship to romance plotline you get a bunch of homosexuals who are like >ugh why couldn't they just be friends? why can't men be friends anymore!?
And ignore the 10000 male platonic friendships in media.
That’s a fair point. Don’t get me wrong. I get tired much like anyone else when shippers read too much into relationships. But I am tired as well or people complaining about male/male romance being too pervasive. I’m not saying it should be at the forefront of anything. I just think there’s a lot of stories that could be told beyond the usual suspects that cater to either fujos. Or are just sanctimonious mouthpieces about gay angst/trauma.
>Or are just sanctimonious mouthpieces about gay angst/trauma.
I really haven't seen anything like that at all.

I’d say it comes more so from gay/bi male authors or creatives. So it is rather niche to begin with but it has been somewhat common in what I’ve delved into. Not to say that these concepts and experiences shouldn’t allowed to be explored within any creative medium. Nor do I believe it should solely be portrayed in an idealic sense. I simply think there’s room for further potential.
I guess they retconned that whole love triangle shit with that Atlantean girl. I'm not surprised since the idea of a autistic black homosexual is too tantalizing for wokegays
> I guess they retconned that whole love triangle shit with that Atlantean girl
Reminds me how lame the time skip at the start of season 2 was by killing her off with no elaboration. At least that's a lover Aqualad doesn't have to mourn.
you forgot the ugly kid from the strange lands movie.
No, it's because women have alot more free time and men have to work 18+ hour days running the economy non stop, thats why men get nothing.
Only women get free time, and thats in the vain of only working 12-14 hour work days 6 days a week while men have to work 18 hour work days for all 7 days of the week.
Don't worry, anon. I will make him my boyfriend.
Realistically, regardless of how gay males are done in other animation, I appreciate that Adam stayed single.
So many shows are quick to shove their gay character into a relationship, where they're not allowed to have anymore normal interaction with characters, their age, and of the same sex anymore.
Meanwhile Adam had friendships with two guys his age in the series without it needing to jump to a relationship.
I'm gonna break this down one by one.
- Nothing really wrong with these two, but they're side characters.
- I'm reserving my comments for an additional reply, cause there's a lot to say.
- Not much in the way to complain about, but the show is kind of niche.
- Once again, I have no complaints but...to call this show obscure is a strong understatement.
- I'll admit I don't recognize this one. So I can't really say anything.
- He's implied to be gay by a single line of dialogue, which was confirmed by creators after the fact.
- No complaints, really. But I'm pretty confident in saying that this is the most obscure example in the collage- for frick's sake, it's a Hulu exclusive.
- Nothing to complain about with regards to the way they're portrayed, but they're still side characters.
- Not a thing until well after I'd grown out of the show's demographic, so I don't actually know much about anything besides the wedding itself. But a preschool show revealing a prominent character as gay and dedicating an entire episode to a gay wedding is something pretty major.
- No complaints about the characters themselves, but, again, still side characters.
- I really don't know how to phrase this without sounding like I'm trying to smear Gravity Falls as problematic, but these two are pretty much just gay for the sake of gay jokes. Their entire existence is as comic relief characters- almost everything they say and do is meant to be comedic, which does indeed extend to how their relationship is portrayed.
- A very minor side character and a guy who shows up in just this single episode. They somehow manage to have a "no homosexual tho" ambiguous relationship in STEVEN UNIVERSE, only confirmed as gay by creators after the fact.
- Nothing to complain about.
- Nothing to complain about, but once again, side characters.
- Again. Side characters.
- Also gonna reserve an additional reply for both YJ examples.
- Don't recognize these guys.
- Or these guys.
Oops. Hit the word limit.

i was reading a fiction where the writer keeps adding lesbian couples and they're all cute and uwu and perfect and they say frick you to their homophobic dads and the one lesbian pedophile relationship is super duper ok and frick you if you disagree
and then all the gay men relationships are full of arguments, in tatters, dead partner or "too busy to date"

Cartoon gays would be more accepted too if they were hot, but it's like they're going out of their way to make them as ugly as possible. Just look at this shit:
Any guess when traps (the cute deal, not trannies or drag queens) will come to the West and become a common sight in cartoons? We've had plenty of tomboys but liitle to no tomgirl.
Lesbians can be oddly into BL. For example Always Raining Here was made by lesbians.
The main patterns I've noticed is that they de-emphasize sex (they might bang but only after a lengthy buildup), the guys tend to be skinny twinks, and there's a lot more interpersonal drama.
I'm not a lesbian so I couldn't tell you what the appeal is exactly. I guess they're kinda like "hags" but less sex focused? They like thinking about two guys getting together, that are non-threatening.
To each their own. For me I would prefer having two muscular men. They don’t have to be completely jacked. I just think having two men with an athletic build similar to each other is not seen all that much. There always tend to be a size difference, not to say that can’t be. So naturally lesbians = girls = romance = ok
But gays = boys ≠ romance = ?!

>Watch a piece of media from any country that has a majority-male cast, and watch how quickly the subject of romance and attraction comes up the moment a female character is introduced
That's unfortunately true. So predictable that is, but I suppose if it works why change that in their eyes? Maybe I am not recalling too many instances where its the exception. But I wonder why so few simply have female characters just be friends with the male lead?
If they asked my straight ass to make a show or comic with a gay male lead: > Give MC and his love interest a season for their relationship to grow naturally. They wouldn't even have to meet in the first minutes. If anything, waiting an episode or two before introducing a love interest gives viewers the time to know the MC and endear themselves to him before any sort of romance happens. > Give viewers the satisfaction of seeing the couple officially date in the finale in case there's no season 2. > Let MC and his love interest have flaws and acknowledge them while minimizing the cheap drama. > Don't overdo the representation, not every character has to correspond to a letter in "LGBT". As a matter of fact, show positive straight characters with their own arcs and relationships getting along with MC so it's not just the writers playing with gay dolls. > If MC crushes on a girl or vice versa, don't treat her as bait and/or a mere stepping stone for endgame. > More generally, don't treat female characters as props or trash just because you want to write yaoi.
Very nice. I think this is a good blueprint to work around. Although I am curious about a few things, sorry if I'm being too sudden about this.
>If MC crushes on a girl or vice versa, don't treat her as bait and/or a mere stepping stone for endgame.
I agree with this but I wonder how can that be accomplished or how would you approach it?
> I agree with this but I wonder how can that be accomplished or how would you approach it?
Gay MC takes the time to have a heart to heart talk with the girl. She may be disappointed, but both characters should end on good terms. Whether she plays a major or minor role, we should get to see her get over her crush and find someone else to show that she's a person whose life didn't revolve around the MC.
Beats punishing her for finding MC attractive and making her vanish as soon as the plot no longer needs her.
This might be a bit too much to ask. I wonder, would your ideas be the same if the lead was a bisexual male? Or are there any other ideas in which you’d approach that character?
Didn't think of what. I suppose MC could be attracted to the girl until he realizes at a pivotal point that he actually loves the guy in his life. That definitely makes things more awkward as the relation might be less one-sided. It's gonna sound like a cheap and contrived way out of a love triangle, but the girl could always turn out to be an antagonist who was trying to get closer to the lead as part of a plan. That doesn't mean she's officially written off as a villainous prop, as it could be an opportunity to develop the character with motivations and nuances - especially if she shows regrets over her actions. It's definitely a way to avoid breaking any heart since the girl was using the MC while the latter realizes he loves someone else. I say it's always more interesting than giving the MC a Get out of Jail free card by having the girl read the room and instantly be super understanding and supportive.
Thanks for the reply. I’m no writer by any means either but it is nice to see there are potential ideas being brainstormed out there. I often feel like an outlier when it comes to what I want to see out there in storytelling. Doesn’t help that I’m not a creative in that particular medium. So I can only articulate it so far. All in all, I’m just interested in seeing new ideas explored rather than treading through the same trite, again and again.

I'm no professionnal writer tbqh.
I wrote all this and yet another part of me yells at me to write the most wholesome chungus fujo fantasy about twinks and femboys going on adventures, meeting other cute boys everywhere they go, hugging, kissing and getting married in wedding dresses, while also cucking and humiliating every girl they meet - who is either an eternal jobber or irredeemably evil. I don't know when my brain snapped like that.
You know what, frick it, I'll add it to my endless list of projects. I just need a genre (that's preferably not generic fantasy) and a main cast to start with. Hopefully How's your webcomic? has at least a tolerance threshold for gay bois.
It could never happen, but I will always choose to believe.

Yes I'm ok, I'm talking about normies.
Only good looking ones.
Professor Venomous was pretty hot and had a top tier voice actor. Shame they paired him with the weird ass looking Robotnik ripoff guy.
But yes in general gay dudes in recent media are just fugly.
I was legit surprised Nimona had an okay-looking gay couple.
Pure sexo but kind of wasted on a cartoon that fizzled out quickly.

There is no good reason to put child predator propaganda in kids' media. Especially in societies with an aging population.
I like how you say this then all the “anti-woke” christcuck people support Israel aka the Zionist israelites who caused woke and rape kids
Cartoon lesbians are commonly accepted cos it's hot. You'd have to draw two girls for people to tolerate a male protag kissing another guy.
No, it's because women have alot more free time and men have to work 18+ hour days running the economy non stop, thats why men get nothing.

The anime that they're watching.
Old cartoons = Cartoons made before 1970.
Helluva is the start of it I guess.
Well if it is, I hope what's next is better and isn't written by women-hating men-woobifying fujos.
lesbian yaoi > gay men yaoi > straight women yaoi

Lesbian yaoi makes no sense but is the most tolerable.
I'd be okay with it if was a twink and a big muscly guy but two twinks? I think not
So Promare? (Looking back, I would have liked to see a twink Galo and a hunk/ambush Lio.)
How about two muscled men?
If there's gonna be muscles in my gay shit, it's either gonna be trap x ambush or ambush x ambush and nothing else.

I'm no professionnal writer tbqh.
I don't know when my brain snapped like that.

giwtwm
this looks like futa art but without the boobs
You know what, frick it, I'll add it to my endless list of projects. I just need a genre (that's preferably not generic fantasy) and a main cast to start with. Hopefully How's your webcomic? has at least a tolerance threshold for gay bois.
>twink

Wouldn't be suprised if this is the thread with most chuds.
