you're a zoomer
The Reddit approved opinion is that Simpson is good only until Season 9 and by the way Principal and the pauper is the worst episode ever. Midwits that are literally incapable of having their own opinion all cling to this dogma as if it’s their own original hot take.
The truth is The Simpsons was still serviceable until S11 and nosedived from S12 but still had a couple of stand out episodes every now and then until it went to HD where the soul was completely drained and good episodes were no longer produced even sporadically.
facts
>until it went to HD where the soul was completely drained and good episodes were no longer produced even sporadically.
yep
Principal and the Pauper wasn’t even bad
>b-but it ruined le looooore the simpsons redditor mega fan cries out
Skinner was a character they barely explored up until that point. All we knew about him is that he’s a momma’s boy, a principal and served in ‘nam. And kind of a loser. That episode didn’t really contradict anything
youre a zoomer too
he was explored thoroughly. he hates bart and hates getting pussy. that's all we needed to know.
Principal and the pauper is ok
yeah, not the best episode ever by any stretch but nowhere near the abomination it's been memed into
No.
That's not solely reddit, that's the turbonerds from the old days of Usenet perpetuating this "good until Season 9" belief on reddit and everywhere else
>The Reddit approved opinion is that Simpson is good only until Season 9
sporadic genius up to S11 for me
What a weird time capsule that episode is, when Mel Gibson is loved by everyone.
>and by the way Principal and the pauper is the worst episode ever
The real Reddit approved opinion is Lisa Goes Gaga, although that's more of a Reddit approved fact.
season 9 is already a noticeable dip in quality, but not bad by any means
it would continue this way for a few seasons more, maybe it was after 11, maybe it was after the movie, but the true shit show was never after season 8 ended, it's just that it wasnt the best series ever after that
Dad still chuckles at "WHY MUST I FAIL AT EVERY ATTEMPT AT MASONRY."
the season 9-11 territory still has some good jokes in there. Perhaps because all of the good writers were not replaced, just most of them.
is another example

Season 14 is my hard cutoff point
Up to season 12 is fine but it drops off pretty hard starting in 10. They still had really good episodes here and there into the zombie era but the problem was they lacked the consistent quality earlier seasons had. 3-10 is mostly very good with a bad episode once a season or so, 13-whatever the frick nowadays is almost entirely garbage with a good episode every few seasons.
I can't tell you which seasons, but the Brazil episode is the first episode I remember watching on air and being bored out of my mind.
Yvan Eht Noij is also bad, except for the superliminal advertising joke
>Dad! LT's gone crazy!
>>Yep, that's the look.
They could be entertaining here and there.
The navy episode has “is a poop deck what I think it is”
>Yvan Eht Noij is also bad, except for the superliminal advertising joke
That might be the only part of the episode people remember. It's that good of a joke.
>That's right, Lieutenant L.T. Smash!
For me it's the introduction of digital animation, everything feels quiet and forced, the hand drawn seasons were more natural and expressive.
It's like the new seasons rely on dragging out 1 punchline whereas the early ones have the entire scene be a joke.
this. when did that start?
honestly the rougher the drawings the better. season 3 looked way better than season 5
>le grill
>le sneed
Seasons 9-11 episodes still had good jokes, even if the plots were odder or characters more flanderized. Plus, most people were still watching from pure habit. Even as the quality dipped, there was still enough for people to keep tuning in. Only after multiple subpar episodes of seasons 12 and 13 did many finally stop watching, and its cultural influence decline.
Seasons 9-11 are in this weird limbo where many of the individual jokes will be good but the characters simply aren't acting based themselves and there are fewer and fewer organic reasons for the situations to exist.
This correct opinion predates reddit.
Anyone with taste knows that’s 2-8 is GOAT, 9-10 are pretty good, 11-13 have some solids. The movie was still quite good and got away with a lot more and treehouse of horror episodes were always significantly better than any episode in their respective seasons post 13.
Actual death of the simpsons was the lady Gaga episode
Lady Gaga ruined Simpsons and now she's going to ruin Joker
The moment the simpsons became shit

For the most part when actors came on as themselves and not a character, it would be a shitty episode.
Season 3-6 is the real sweet spot. Tons of great, even classic episodes in the other seasons but to me there's a drop off in consistency. The show starts to get a little too meta for me around then. Who Shot Mr. Burns even as an ironic sitcom gimmick is still an indication of the show getting a little stale for me. Again, there are plenty of amazing episodes in other seasons but you take season 4 for example: there's like 90 seconds total of the entire season that aren't pure magic.
There were still good episodes right up to season 15 or so they just became increasingly scarce after season 8 or so
In my opinion, season four was when the show started to go downhill. That sitcom-y quality of the first three seasons is the glue that kept all the zaniness of this world and its characters together. Without it, too much of the show, even the good stuff, just feels like gag after gag without much weight.
I actually agree with this the early seasons had a sitcom quality that kept them tethered to earth. not sure when it started to go exactly but definitely by season 5. was still very good up to 7 or 8 or so
I have a soft spot for seasons 9-11 because they were the ones I saw the most during syndication.
What's the best episode subplot, and why is it Homer's sugar pile?
Reminder that Mr Sparkle was the B-plot to a Marge episode.
Homer's false advertising suit against The Frying Dutchman is easily the best.
>Does this sound like a man who had ALL he could eat?
>That could have been me!
>Homer I don't use the word "hero" very often, but you: are the greatest hero, in American history.
>Woo-hoo!
Really Hartman's death is a perfect cutoff point for golden era Simpsons. Lionel Hutz is my favorite character on the show. RIP
>Mr. Simpson, this is the most blatant case of false advertising since my suit against The Neverending Story.
All in favor.. say die
>How did they do it?
It was a sharp decline, but not a cliff
Season 9 is when it goes from "every episode is a hit" to "mostly hits, some misses" and the misses keep piling up until it's all duds.
You could probably find a good episode in Season 15 if you really wanted but you can't argue that 15 is in the "golden age"
I watched Simpsons through syndication until one day Big Bang Theory took their spot on my local WB. I don’t think my family has ever watched a premier on Fox.
