>epitome of LOL RANDOM XD
>somehow completely pulls it off and manages to be fricking hilarious
How did Steve Oedekerk do it? What makes the non-sequiters in this film actually funny compared to so much other shit that has aged terribly?

You know the rule, OP.
The character of Tonguey was a miss.
>THAT'S A LOTTA NUTS!
True, also the fight with the cgi cow at the beginning and Betty's "my ass" punchline. Everything else is perfect
>THAT'LL BE FOUR BUCKS BABY YOU WANT FRIES WITH THAT
The cow fight is the only negative of the film.
It was around the time when, thanks to Ben Stiller, fighting animals in movies and getting your ass kicked was "funny" for normies. Also, the bullet-time spoof of the Matrix was one of the most spoofed movie scenes of all time.

I've felt this way since the first time I saw it in '06. One of my favorite comedies of all time, but I never thought the cow scene (which was highlighted in all of the trailers) was particularly funny. I don't hate it, but it probably should have been cut.
I keep wondering if it was an intentional miss or if that's cope. Anyway...
THAT'S A LOT OF NUTS
There's nothing wrong with Random humor. And honestly it's not really that random the film has a theme and story and universe that the quirky jokes fit into.
>What makes the non-sequiters in this film actually funny compared to so much other shit that has aged terribly?
It came out in a time when people got the joke and didn't over analyze everything, people were allowed to be silly and creative. Nowadays the younger generation likes everything packaged up and all the jokes have to be explained, a movie liks The Mask could never come out today, people would think its insulting their intelligence.
no it's just absurd, equal to modern humor but called something different
I really wish there was more background information online about how 20th Century FOX reacted to the final film. I can't even imagine how weirded out they were. It's a miracle this film was even made.
They were cool with it because of the baby and cow fight probablt
one guy making himself laugh. also it helps i never watched his "thumb" related parodies because I'm sure they're terrible

Saw this in the theatre with my dad. We were the only ones laughing hysterically throughout the entire movie.
It's the smartest dumb comedy. Yeah, the jokes are goofy and random, but they're also well thought out and timed. I think the nature of the film being cut from an existing movie really helped with this. It made it less of, "how do we write a funny scene," and more of, "how do we transform this scene into something absurd and comical.".
actual good answer
>It's the smartest dumb comedy.
that honor goes to Not Another Teen Movie
