Looks nice but it has a pretty terrible screenplay. Top three batman movies are Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and Batman & Robin.
It was alright. Script was shit but it has a nice aesthetic, the decision to make it a neo noir differentiated it from Nolan enough to be interesting. I liked that Batman and Riddler were just 2 autist shut-ins fricking around in costumes in this disgusting crime ridden city. I would say it's one of the better Batman movies, the sequel could be really great if Reeves learned from his mistakes but I doubt that'll happen.

The Batman rips off David Fincher's Seven, Zodiac, and Villneuve's Prisoners too much-- all of which are better movies than The Batman.
The batmobile chase in the rain, in particular, was so much better in Prisoners. The fact that you couldn't see the cars on the road was thematic because the detective was driving while losing consciousness. And it also made the audience think that he was going to crash the car and not save the girl. In The Batman all of that tension is lost. They're just mimicking the look and not thinking about why it was filmed that way.
Sure, that's a genuine criticism. Same way the Joker ripped off Scorsese but worse. And yet, in the realm of superhero movies all it takes is to be a fraction as good as those movies and you become the best in your genre.
The Batman isn't the best in the genre, though. Maybe it's the best looking. It certainly looks a lot better than Nolan's Batman. But there's so much with The Batman that's just bad. The music is bad, the diary entries are bad, Catwoman is worse than Michelle Pfeiffer and Anne Hathaway, the riddles were awful, the whole idea that the Riddler needed Batman to make Falcone take two steps outside his club so he could shoot him is incredibly stupid. Falcone never used that door at any other point in time? The Riddler was literally right next door to Falcone for months, maybe even years, and he had to bait Batman to get him out? Falcone isn't a hermit. He leaves his club. It makes no sense. And the scene where the Riddler starts singing Ave Maria is dumber and memeier than "you're a big guy."

As a 35 year old boomer who loved both the Nolan trilogy and the Burton movies growing up, and who just recently rewatched all of them, you're incorrect. The Batman is a better movie than all of them. At the time they were very good, but times change, and today the Burton films are extremely campy/cheesy/silly, while the Nolan trilogy is still good but also feeling a bit dated. None are nearly as good as most people remember them to be. I went into The Batman expecting it to be zoomer shit, but it turned out to be one of the best movies I've seen in the past few years.

Then I had an edible from a friend and was all alone at home, playing hockey from work and the missus was visiting her parents - started watching old music videos and watching Teen Spirit triggered a sense memory and it was like I was in my bedroom with my brother all over again and we were watching the premiere of it on MTV on our shitty 19" Dynatron. Reminded me just how special they were. How iconic.
