Even Total Recall, a film about Arnold Schwarzenegger shooting up Mars, had a deeper take on the "dreamworld" concept than that. Total Recall at least asks "How could you know the awesome gunfights are real? How could you know anything was real?"
Blade Runner 2049 is a bit overlong and isn't as deep as people might think, but I do appreciate the way it avoided most of the usual sequel pitfalls.
