so you're illiterate
Pretty cool but the ending was rushed as hell, I missed an epilogue
It's a novel right? Is it translated to English or do I have to get back to my reps?
>Is it translated to English
Yes.
https://sevenseasentertainment.com/series/neon-genesis-evangelion-anima-light-novel/
Why don't you read it yourself and form your own opinion instead of parroting others opinions for your shitty video?
I was basically reading through it as I made the thread and wanted to come back and see what people said after I finished it. I just finished the fifth novel. It was so much better than Rebuild it isn't even funny. I feel like it is hands down the best Evangelion material out there aside from the actual tv series.
>Comparing shit to shit
The only good thing about it is wacky designs
is it really that good? I love reading. After I cross Savage Detectives off of my reading list, I want to read Evangelion Anima.
It starts off a little weak, but it really picks up by the second novel and from there on it was so gripping I couldn't really put it down until I finished all five.
best girl won
I really like how Hikari is handled in Anima in general. I wish Rebuild had tried to do something with any of their female characters aside from making them all obsessed with becoming a wife/mom and nothing more in life
This is missing some of the coolest designs like the twin guys or the "mutant" unit 0
he could make a fricking Linebarrels AU full of evangelion designs and I'd love him for it
Does Shinji have sex in it?
With anyone other than himself that is?
It's called anime you dummy
>SHINJI X REI fanfiction..
i've read it...but yeahh whatever...it's ok.
Asuka is clearly the focus the entire way through though?
she's literally absent for 3 novels bro.
"muhhh le focus" she's quite literally a giant robot that cannot speak and acts like an infant for 2 NOVELS...like his NON-Boyfriend is having picnic in planet(?) with the clone of his mom while Asuka reverted back to the mental state of a baby.
how is that focus? she only reappears in the last novel to give birth to shinji.
Because the emotions the two feel for each other are literally the driving point of both of them throughout the story and it is their combined actions that are the most defining of what happens? She is effectively the protagonist of the second novel. Shinji is at his angriest and most desperate in all the scenes where he thinks she is in trouble or has is dead. In the fourth novel she has parts where she has regained her consciousness. The third novel she is effectively absent, but her presence is brought up many times and characters constantly think about her. She ends up being key for the fifth novel too, essentially bringing Shinji back from the dead at the beginning and end.
Rei's focus is split between four different people. Despite her character supposed to be about not being treated like Yui, the fifth novel just ends up making her feel like an extension of Yui again, so much so that multiple characters confuse the two for each other. Don't get me wrong. Rei gets plenty of love in the Anima novels, but I would never call it Shinji x Rei fanfiction. It is very obvious Asuka and Shinji love each other in the story.
This post makes me not want to read it.
I recommend reading it if you enjoyed Evangelion and were attached to the main cast. It is a really smooth read too as everything is segmented nicely scene by scene. It is easy to imagine what is going on. It has an "anime pace" if that makes sense.
I liked designs, aesthetics and the mystery-horror aspect, but I fricking hated the main cast.
Well by Anima they mostly all got over their original dilemmas from the series and are more mature. You might still enjoy it. There is a lot of mecha and science fiction autism throughout too so it has a healthy balance of action, jargon, and character interactions.
>she only reappears in the last novel to give birth to shinji
I already know I don't need/want to read this crap.
can someone give me a tldr on the plot? the only thing I didn't watch is the last rebuild
read the original manga too
It more or less follows the original anime and End of Evangelion just with some key differences being that Kaji never died, the raid on NERV was unsuccessful (Misato and folks did not die), and that they decided to crucify Asuka instead of Shinji for the instrumentality project, so she never died in the big battle. For unexplained reasons, Shinji still got to decide on how instrumentality would go and rejected it, which resulted in Lilith and the people at the heart of NERV (such as Gendo) being put in some sort of untouchable orb.
Basically it follows the manga and anime except no one dies and instrumentality fails before people were even converted to LCL . Don't bother with Rebuild it's complete garbage. Anima is much better
just Kaji never died? dont you mean Kaji instead went to some ancient ruins in Cyprus or something with Kensuke and found the ancient Seele magic glasses which houses Kiel´s conscience, and find out that Seele long ago was a man called Noah or some stupid shit anyways, Kaji doesnt have anything better to do so he puts the glasses so now he is Kiel inhabiting Kaji´s body while Kensuke tries to play double agent for a short while, also because of this Kiel has Kaji´s memories so Kiel is tempting Misato and hangs out with evil Rei like a shit anime villain.
Sometimes it seems strange how people can be so forgiving to Anima when most of it reads like exposition blurbs and everything character related is feels like its written by someone who never liked the show and just wants to do random crap
Every Evangelion has a ridiculous plot if you get hung up on the details, including the original series. If anything part of what shocked me about Anima was how it was able to deliver such an absurd narrative in a way that was easy to follow and enjoyable. The only asspull in particular I did not like in Anima was Seele glasses just randomly shattering and somehow this completely frees Kaji. Also Shinji dies so often it almost becomes comical. I think he dies at least once in every single novel. That and the ending is obviously rushed as hell. I don't mind it aside from the whole "oh shit we don't have a moon anymore. guess we'll make a new one! Nerv sure has its work cut out for it!" aspect of it. I like how Mari was handled and in general I thought she was a cool character.
I really really like Anima Shinji, Asuka, and Rei. They feel like natural progressions of the characters in a world that mellowed out for three years. Anima Asuka is extremely likable and I especially like how heroic she is during the entire moon arc of the second novel. The Rei group I found fascinating. I tend to enjoy Rei in most depictions of the character, but I felt like Anima and the manga were the only ones that really took a meaningful stab at her in a way that is thought provoking. In comparison, take a gander at the shitfest that is double moeblob Rei in Rebuild.
I also appreciate that it tries to slip in some downtime and comedy and slice of life elements despite the fact that it is basically a 2000 page train going off rails with no breaks. I find Anima far less ridiculous than Rebuild, Season 2 Geass, second half of Gurren Lagann, Seed Destiny, etc... It has a lot of crazy metaphysical stuff going on, but that is par for the course in Evangelion.
Insane schizo bullshit but very entertaining schizo bullshit. Follows EOE but has some core changes like Kaji being alive and Asuka + Unit 2 being the one they used in the ceremony. So Third Impact didn’t kill everyone on earth and everything returned to normal after it was all over. Gendo has gone missing too. It gets really out of hand really fast because there’s three Reis running around now, one of which is a little girl, Shinji sorta dies in the first volume but comes back immediately and Eva 01 turns into ‘The Super Evangelion’. There’s also e-girl cat girl Mari running around and piloting a giant ZORDS reject, Asuka turns into a giantess and there’s a bunch of Eva’s on the moon. It’s just pure nonsense but a lot of fun to read
giant ZORDS reject
made me laugh, outloud, loudly until my ass fell off. Thank you kindly.
>e-girl cat girl Mari
wait what
The Mari in Anima is completely unrelated to the one in Rebuild. She's an American feral e-girl with cat ears and a plugsuit that loves Asuka. Very powerful combination.
She doesn't love asuka, she wants to eat her because she is strong
After she comes back, she holds Asuka's hand and is basically glued to her for the rest of the story. She wanted to surpass and become the Eva 02 Asuka, but the pilot Asuka is a bit of a mother figure for her
Very good
Plugsuit Hikari is a miracle of the universe.
How did the giant Asuka issue get resolved?
Her soul essentially gets extracted and then is able to recreate her body using a plugsuit they designed for that specific purpose. From there on she essentially has the ability to fuse with Eva 02, but the implication is that she cannot revert afterwards at least not without help. Would have been pretty cool if she could do it anytime as a sort of crazy synchronization rate 1000%
Hot
Would it be worth it for them to animate Anima? Seems like it'd be an easy cash-in, maybe tweak things as necessary that might not have worked out or cut stuff for time.
Or does Anno really just want Eva to go away even though he said he'd leave it to others from here on out.
New merch is still coming out. Anno may say one thing, but he's gotta use that Evangelion money to fund Shin Solbrain or whatever.
Didn’t Anno say that HE was done with Eva but the door was open for others to take up the reigns?
If Anno is allowed anywhere near it, he will ruin it. I'm afraid they would try to change too much in an animated Anima, like try to tie it into Rebuild somehow as just another one of the continuities that ended up being rewritten by the gary stu and mary sue getting together ending.
Anima would probably make for an awesome series of films though
It is kind of weird that none of the Eva spinoffs have been animated.
The idea that Asuka can temporarily go back to the humanoid 02 form is pretty cool. I imagine if Anima ever got a followup she would have figured out a way to stay in that form for entire battles without losing her identity.
>you will never fuse with an eva and marry giant asuka
why live?
For Misato
I think this is very great interpritation of anime. It actually canon too even tho has a bit different plot
Agreed!
I don't get why giant Asuka isn't more popular within the fandom. Is it just because of how niche Anima is?
I think so. A lot of people probably don't know it even exists. There is barely any Anima merch. I would kill for some statues of Anima Asuka of any kind, but all we have are two Super Eva figures and one figure of Hikari's variant 02
>A lot of people probably don't know it even exists
plus it feels like even less people know that it actually got translated too
Yeah I think a lot of English speaking Evangelion fans would buy Anima in a heartbeat if they actually were aware it had an official release with a solid translation and everything.
So other than turning into an Eva, tell me about Asuka in this manga
They are novels. Anyway, she is now a blonde fit chick with fat breasts who wants to protect her loved ones and cares greatly about them. She's basically a hotblooded super robot protagonist now and she's awesome.
Doesn't look blond to me, but twintails and seifuku in this art suit her
There were multiple artists for Anima so the designs are a bit inconsistent on the characters. For whatever reason, she is described as "blonde" multiple times in the translation. I'm not sure if that was the intention or not of the original writer.
Pic related is what she actually looks like in Anima.
i think yamashita just prefers her as a blonde
>he prefers asuka to be blonde, confident, and have fat breasts
based
Asuka's hair is sometimes brunette sometimes redhead depending on who draws her and what version of her it is, but Anima only makes things even more confusing by introducing blonde Asuka into the mix.
she could always just dye her hair
Oh and orange hair too. Brown, orange, red, blonde. No matter what color Asuka's hair is, I love her.
Khara should just make an Anima anime. The Eva brand is strong
Good, just not better than the original.
