all that footage was lost because studio heads were pussies. i'm usually the dissenting voice in those threads saying the movie is not very good. my guess is those threads are created by a handful of people who REALLY LIKE IT and want to sway public opinion through the use of spammed misinformation. can't really blame them, we've all seen that works

You can see the 480p copy of the reel on that video site. I didn't think it added that much

It just hasn't aged super well. A lot of it looks cheesy now, but seeing this in theatres in 1997 was really awesome.

    It's Warhammer 40K tier actually

see, this really grinds my gears. this movie is not a war hammer 40k prequel YOU FRICKING NERD. and that conceit is certainly not an excuse to say the movie is good

But that isn't literally Warhammer by your own description?

Great movie still one of my favorites but the funny blackman jetpacking to the ship always stuck out to me as something that should have been left on the cutting room floor.

Something about the way the scene was acted took away from the gravitas of the rest of what was going on

yeah i literally lost my shit when he gets blown into fricking space and somehow flies back just to get blown away again because of how much tonal whiplash it was. if its true that they thought the movie was too dark then it was probably put in to attempt to balance it out

Not going to let it ruin my like of the movie but yeah. Always makes me cringe on that scene

It might have been but it destroyed the atmosphere that's been established in a serious sci-fi horror movie.

The movie never established any type of wacky hijinks scene before that and to suddenly drop it into a climax is, as another anon said, a tonal whiplash

I think its really out of place and that's why it hits so hard. at that point in the movie everything is bleak and going to hell for the crew. so always liked the bit of levity being added since I was a kid.

but I totally get why people hate it

cooper is meant to be the comic relief character though. If lawrence fishburne wasn't in it he might even have been seen as a racist stereotype.

It's okay, but as has been said ad nauseum it's a bone for warhammer fans since it's kind of like a ship with a warp drive and no gellar field but in a not too distant future. Warhammer fans don't get much in terms of tv/movies that's above shit tier so anything OK they just latch on to.

Warhammer never invented hyperspace travel being dangerous.

Obviously, but it's similar to how it works in 40K and that's how Warhammer types see the movie. Just saying. Warhammer is hardly a source of original ideas, it's just a bunch of sci fi and fantasy concepts the morons in Nottingham thought were cool and mashed into the setting.

The reason people like it is because you can count with your fingers the amount of films that have this genre.

Pretty much. Just being a sci-fi horror gives it extra points for being something novel.

Helps that its a good movie though

Hey guys I want to release a directors cut but the footage has been lost 🙁

Oh wait! We found a tape with the list footage! 🙂

My producer who found the footage moved to Spain. That's like totes to far for me to go get it 🙁

The ending turns it into a comedy with that black guy slapsticking around. The suits were really afraid of making the movie too grimdark weren't they.

    >maybe its because ive heard so much great shit about this movie, but watching it for the first time im kinda let down

you had to have watched it on VHS or in theaters in the 90s when you were a kid. it was a fun cult classic till maybe 2015 when random reddit tier homosexuals found out about it and started hyping it up. the films not perfect but the lore surrounding it is almost as kino as the film itself.

really do wish the warhammer goofs and the new reddit fans would frick off and never mention the film again. I always thought it had more to do with the Doom universe anyway since it used Doom sound effects and had the bloody skulls melted into the wall.

Looks good though, maybe I'll watch it after The Rifleman.

It is the one horror movie that badly needs a remake.
