I mean if you read between the lines of stories like Masque of Red Death, you just assume there are gays and bisexuals everywhere. It's a hedonistic and decadent gathering of the rich and wealthy. Poe doesn't linger on that stuff because he doesn't consider it important to the story, but it also doesn't go against it.
really weak show by Mike Flanagan standards. the way a character acts in episode 1 is the same way they act for the rest of the episodes. there's no character development and everyone acts like a dick. it's not even satisfying to see them die because no time was spent on making any of the characters feel important

Arthur Pym was by far the most interesting character and I just have trouble figuring out what Death was trying to make him a deal for when Pym had nothing to offer.
Her gimmick was encouraging powerful people to self-destruct. Presumably, their weakness reveals itself as they live their lives in fear. Pym recognized he only lived because he enjoyed the power, he had no hubris. He was just cruel. If it was in his nature to take the offer, he would have a fatal flaw. He didn't take the offer because he knows his life is hollow and doesn't need to keep going. It's not really that realistic, but that's what makes him one of the more interesting characters.
