Yeah it's a post-WWI thing here. It's only recently that beards became popular again. Maybe because we have so many immigrants now that were always fine with it, plus lots of professional barbers that cut it right. Yeah, I thought the sheer amount of Miguel thirst (especially since it’s lasted more than a few months) was a bit odd until I realized this. I see so much fanart and fics of him in AUs completely divorced from canon, almost as much as canon compliant ones, so I think fans are just taking his design and using it for whatever.
