Cinemaphile will complain even if it perfectly recreates the LoTR feel. As much as I love the movies, I have to admit a lot of it is proto-capeshit. People will realize how indulgent the action scenes are when rose-tinted glasses aren't a factor.
Two Towers and Return of the King have capeshit-tier action. Fellowship is perfect. Its action is subdued and impactful and most of the movie focuses on characters. I'm saying Amazon will take the bad parts of the movies which unfortunately are also what made them popular in the first place.
The difference is those movies earned their "capeshit" as you put it by having a soul to them. This series will have 0% of what earns those action scenes.
This teaser showed the best they have and it was already threadbare. All those implied epic scenes will be over and done with the first episode and after that only character drama and soap opera will happen with random people talking in front of half-build/half-greenscreen sets. And then you have at least four story arcs that are leagues apart and barely ever interact, just hopping from one place to another with barely any time for one place to make a lasting impression. Maybe they'll just teleport people around. After all, if you can compress 1000 years into some odd 20, you can compress 1000 miles into some odd 20. It's fantasy, doesn't have to explain shit.
All of these streaming shows are the same and I love when they have multiple storylines going and then just drop one in episode 6 with no conclusion or payoff.

I still have no idea what it is meant to be about. Lord of the Rings is an epic and simple story about the fate of the world and thus is effortlessly compelling material. The Hobbit is a fun, smaller scale adventure with dwarves and a dragon (although butchered by studios forcing Jackson to make it into a big, epic trilogy).
But what is actually the story for Rings of Power?
It's about Sauron, but s1 will basically be setup to show how Sauron was able to deceive the free peoples of middle earth and why his schemes were so effective

Third, you’d get “experts” to back it. Fly them into town, put them up in a nice place, wine them and dine them. Promise them that this is a really great product and we know what we are doing.
Fourth, show off flashy pictures of it. Really sell the aesthetic value of it.

For this the one true God wipes out the invading army and sinks the island of Numenor entirely. Sauron gets disembodied and cursed so he can't shapeshift any more.)
War of the Last Alliance (Elves and Numenorean mainlanders combine forces to defeat Sauron... again.)
Because of the influence of the rings of power the realms of men are divided and the dwarves lock themselves away. The greatest men, the Numenorians are nearly all dead. And elf numbers are dwindling due to attrition. This sets up the desperate situation of the third age.
Man, imagine if we lived in a world where this series could have possibly been done right. It's always beautiful background, ugly people. That's now how it was written. Maybe one day soon all this neo-Weimar bullshit will be over.

It would enforce what a big deal the Last Alliance was, between them. And, why it's a big deal that Aragorn returns later. The whole Elendil plot is setting up Aragorn. Or should be.
You can't rewrite the Allakabeth. They can onlty use the appendices, and they're seemingly playing very fast and loose with it, taking references that Galadriel was concerned about a growing unknown power in ME to this ridiculous stronk warrior queen golem they've constructed. The Second Age is Game Of Thrones, but a GOT that makes sense, and has an ending in a pretty fricking definitive final act. All of it leads to Elendil and Gil-Galad taking down Sauron, together. Gil-Galad is half the story. Even the dwarves are secondary to this.
There is no argument for Elrond, he didn't become more important than Gil-Galad or Elendil until they died. He was an important part of the elves society, because of Rivendell, but not that important.

He rules elves. Elendil is ruling men. The whole over-arching story of the second age is the breakdown of the alliances between men and elves, and Sauron taking advantage of it. It would enforce what a big deal the Last Alliance was, between them. And, why it's a big deal that Aragorn returns later. The whole Elendil plot is setting up Aragorn. Or should be.
You can't rewrite the Allakabeth. They can onlty use the appendices, and they're seemingly playing very fast and loose with it, taking references that Galadriel was concerned about a growing unknown power in ME to this ridiculous stronk warrior queen golem they've constructed. The Second Age is Game Of Thrones, but a GOT that makes sense, and has an ending in a pretty fricking definitive final act. All of it leads to Elendil and Gil-Galad taking down Sauron, together. Gil-Galad is half the story. Even the dwarves are secondary to this.
There is no argument for Elrond, he didn't become more important than Gil-Galad or Elendil until they died. He was an important part of the elves society, because of Rivendell, but not that important.

Am i the only person turned off by Tolkien adaptions because of The Hobbit? The problem with those movies was the additions and trying to cram it into the same category as LOTR. This looks like just the same thing with the scenery and storyline that comes from tv writers and producers. I would have been interested in this if the visuals were entirely original. The jackson movies are not sacrosanct.
