Man, I really want to get into Fafner but that Hirai face keeps putting me off. Is the story good enough to power through it anyway?
I'm obviously biased, but I think it's definitely good enough to watch over your dislike of Hiraiface.

It's pretty good, but the Hiraiface is a really big drawback, especially when they introduce a ton of characters at once and some have siilar hairstyles to existing ones, so you can get the characters mixed up. The robots are cool and there's some interesting stories though
I never watched SEED so hiraiface doesn't bother me. When I do see SEED pictures I get temporarily excited about a Hirai show I don't recognize then I remember its SEED and deflate a little.
Canon's death was one of the most impactful character deaths. Can't really deny I'm happy to see her again

Would they really try milking more of Fafner after this? I mean, it's possible, but Beyond was basically running on production fumes by the end of it. Behind The Line isn't even listed as IG Zwei either, it's fully Production IG now.

You're not thinking in modern SRW terms. We'd get an Exodus debut as the only entry, and it would at the very best focus almost entirely on Kazuki's team and have the stuff on Tatsumiya be a DLC sidestory. Most likely though, Sui's team would be cameo tier.

I think you're confused. Sunrise only got the Xebec staff. All the IPs went to IG. On top of which, Fafner was pretty much XebecZwei at that point too, which was not acquired by Sunrise and just relabeled to IGZwei.
