(Excerpt from IGN interview published April 17, 2024) https://www.ign.com/articles/the-big-fallout-interview-todd-howard-and-jonathan-nolan-answer-our-burning-questions-about-season-1

I was actually specifically going to ask you about that Shady Sands timeline conversation. And you say that nothing in New Vegas is retconned. I think the rub, to kind of TLDR it, is that "The Fall of Shady Sands" happens in 2277, which is four years before New Vegas. So are people just misunderstanding what "The Fall of Shady Sands" means or something like that?

Howard: All I can say is we're threading it tighter there, but the bomb falls just after the events of New Vegas. That's when Shady Sands blows.

So basically, "The Fall of Shady Sands," it doesn't mean a nuke, necessarily?

      Howard: Correct.

Okay. I'm glad we got that out of the way. That was a big question.

Howard: Look, we are tight on the dates, if you really want to get into it. But what's important is when the show takes place. What is happening in the time period of the show? And that's what's most important to us.

Bethesda is in full on damage control mode but frankly I don't give a frick. My Courier is safe. That's all I care. So long Cinemaphile, I'm done cross posting! I'm gonna add another dozen mods and boot up a new game to celebrate!

Fallout 1, 2, 3 and New Vegas are canon in my book. Todd Howard is a spiteful little man who bought the IP just so that he could destroy the franchise, it all stems from his insecurity over his small stature.

      Anonymous

I don't think he's spiteful, more infantile - they bought an IP because it sounded LE FUN, and they can do WACKY WASTELAND STUFF, but the NCR developing a society was a loose end that would eventually cause issues, so they tied it up.
Basically, they wanted the setting, not the baggage that came with it.

Its hilarious too. He clearly did not want this distruction as he was extremely logical and even tried to defend Las Vegas by setting up anti-air defense on the roof of his casino. Albeit, this kind of gives another argument toward the fact that vault tec could have had capability to nuke the world. If Mr House had anti-icbm technology, they could have reproduced their own icbm nukes.

Their view was that they'd eliminate everyone and just have their super race of selected people left alive to colonize the world with no competition from governments or anyone else. However, it's kind of a moronic plot. They'd need a hundred vaults stacked with 1000 pieces of t-60 to reclaim the old america.

To resettle the world with their chosen perfect species which have been indoctrinated through generations of living in the vault. Staying in the vault for so long however is questionable, I'd agree. The storyline has plots

It doesn’t make sense at any level. Even assuming everything went exactly according to plan, what benefit would vault-tec execs possibly gain by being absolute rulers of the wasteland instead of ungodly rich and powerful but beholden to the us government in the pre-war world? The latter is certainly more luxurious and enjoyable.

One of my biggest issues is the depiction of the BoS. So many redditards say "but they have incense and chant like monks "dats like da metallic monks from da FO1 hehe".
What they fail to understand is that this interpretation of the BoS is pure Bethesda. It has evolved from the FO3 interpretation, not FO1, FO2 or FNV.
The BoS are supposed to be this small faction of tech hunter that's wear power armor. Their bases are primarily in bunkers and they rarely interact with wastelanders. They are not supposed to have giant bases with airfields, bunks for hundreds of recruits, etc. They aren't supposed to have giant air ships floating around. This all reeks of Todd's FO4.
But it's cannon cause they burn le incense right? I hate this slop so much.
