ATHF was peak absurdist comedy.
Plots were completely nonsensical, and yet every character was well defined.
Other shows try to be like this but only ATHF did it right and I’m not sure how they did it. It just werks.
When I first saw it on AS I hated it, but overtime I came to love it. Same is true with a lot of AS shows. Butt ugly art and minimal animation, but astoundingly brilliant writing and hilarious voice acting.
"Plot" is being generous, episodes often felt like a stream of consciousness without any kind of structure to them, ending abruptly when they hit the time limit.
lol definitely. Some episodes had a stronger “plot” than others but even the non-sequitur episodes somehow manage to get you to follow along. Other copycat shows just couldn’t make it work as good as ATHF. There was also just enough continuity to make the world defined.
Squidbillies was close to matching this but was never quite as good.
Other than that no other absurdist show comes close.
kek I didn’t say squidbillies wasn’t based, and Unknown Hinson is ultra giga based, so ultra giga based he got fired from the show and the show instantly died.
kek it wasn't really a criticism I just take any reason I can to Early-post.
Agree to everything you said btw. Hinson did nothing wrong.

Between that, and the Toonami BLM speech, they can burn.

Indeed. Fortier and Willis are gays and should consider suicide.
Yeah and they removed all the seasons from hbo except the one shitty season. I can still stream it for free whenever but the convenience was nice. frick Dolly Parton

So they got so petty with him that they would deny fans the show just so they wouldn't have to pay the guy royalties. Adult Swim are evidently some c**ts. They majorly fricked over Frylock and Brak's VAs too. Frylock was working as a dish washer for a while to make ends meet, and Brak's is currently working as an Amazon driver.
>Squidbillies was close to matching this but was never quite as good.
It had some moments that were on par with ATHF's golden years, but on the whole, yeah, it was a little too structured to have the same vibe most of the time.
>Other than that no other absurdist show comes close.
Xavier Renegade Angel is perhaps more absurd, though less "watchable" than ATHF. It's ATHF exaggerated in every dimension.
I had a dvd box set and it had a how it's made extra and it's just 2 guys smoking weed shooting the shit. I distinctly remember them losing their shit when they came up with the line "we let the arrow decide"
The new movie is pretty good. I was expecting a boomer-esque take on Amazon and current online culture. Instead, I got an actually functional satyre of our current times
I dunno, animation feels like overkill and contributes literally nothing to the jokes, is just gross sometimes

The voice acting and dynamic between the characters is a perfect formula. They understand comedic timing perfectly as well. If you like stupid humor, it doesn't get better. I laugh out loud every time I see a screenshot from the show.
This show was some kind of lightning in a bottle. Between this and Home Movies there are probably millions of millennials who will carry a weird kind of absurdist humor on through the 21st century. But it will never happen again.
Is Aqua Teen even still a known quantity with zoomers? I've got nephews who watched Family Guy religiously, but have never so much as mentioned Aqua Teen.
Family Guy has far more mass appeal and therefore more relevance to survive through the ages. It’s also on network tv.
I think zoomers know about ATHF especially older ones, but the internet replaced their counter culture. They were staying up on a school night to watch Master Shake move in with gay Bigfoot.
My uncle gave me that look one day when he was just getting home from work (he was a cop), and I was watching Dragon Ball Z. More specifically, the scene where Majin Boo and Gotenks are biting each other.
Born in 98 and can confirm I stayed up to watch Shake eat the broodwich
I meant to say “weren’t” and not “were” but you’re just old enough to have this.
>sneak downstairs to watch tv >sea lab is on >dad walks in when they're arguing about hydraulic penises
Haha. Yeah you had to watch with the volume down, adult swim was too weird for (most) boomers.

They grew up on slapstick cartoons and the jetsons. Weird Japanese shit is cringe to them and honestly they are correct for cringing.

Aqua Teen is a shot for shot remake of Seinfeld
ITS THE DRIZZLE
“Did you sell Meatwad to the circus?”
“I BUY AND SELL PEOPLE LIKE YOU EVERYDAY!”

Comedic masterpiece from start to finish
It stops being consistently gold when they got closer to episode 100, but it's still one hell of a streak.
The 100 song is nice, and I get an erection every time the monster carries that girl off screaming, but I agree with you in principle.
>"I think that cop was Tom Savini."
That gets me too.
I feel like I haven't eaten in A CENTURY
I could eat A HUNDRED jelly beans
Animation aparently had to do alot with it, bc latest season feels just wrong
I haven’t seen it. I literally don’t have the heart to watch any current year television. I literally do not watch movies or tv made after 2007 or so.
How bad is it?
The new movie is pretty good. I was expecting a boomer-esque take on Amazon and current online culture. Instead, I got an actually functional satyre of our current times

Movie was ok, but not near as good as colon movie

It’s Berber. That’s an industry term.
Carl would be 64 years old now, if he was a real guy.

>Silly daddy, you can't eat carpet
Ughhh…ok.
You do realize it’s freaking July though, right?
>THOUSANDS OF YEARS AGO IN THE FUTURE
BEFORE SIGOURNEY WEAVER
I SURVIVED THE QUICKENING OF THE DRAGONOIDS
That last bite reminded me of A SEVERELY LONG ANECDOTE
I HAD TO PULL A LOTTA STRINGS TO GET THEM TO HIRE AN 8 YEAR-OLD
I've been marathoning AHTF during dinner.
It still holds up.
Most of Squidbillies is just as good too
>YOU DON'T REMEMBER BECAUSE BACK THEN IT WAS ONLY A PROPHECY, BUT NOW IN THE FUTURE, THE PAST HAS OCCURRED!
THE WAR AGAINST THE MACHINES RAGED ON THROUGH THE SEVENTIES
HOW COULD HE HAVE KNOWN WHERE THE NORTH POLE WAS? HE EXISTED BEFORE SCIENCE WAS INVENTED
Yeah, I remember eating carpet. Not so much the robots, with the laser beams.
Is there any way to get the blood to flow UP the walls?
Where’s my blood? Where the FRICK IS MY BLOOD?
>Danzig is literally like 5 feet tall.
Post Carl scenes that are literally (You).
You just did

Wh..Why were we trying to cash a bill?
I always like the way he said "Where did you get gum?" so incredulously, like he couldn't believe that he managed to get a pack of gum.
>THERE WAS MUCH DEFECATION
My dad would always yell at me about watching "subhuman televison" but he laughed at the carpet christmas scene
Look how this nun reacts when someone blows her brains out!
ATHF was, in essence, a Blaxploitation Coonskin-like show
