1. Scarface
2. Mission Impossible
3. Carrie
4. Blow Out
5. Carlito's Way
6. Body Double
7. The Untouchables
8. Casualties of War
9. Dressed to Kill
Was gonna do a 10 but I'm not sure I like any of the De Palma films I've seen enough to list them. He's a very talented filmmaker but his bad films are really awful.
Definitely. Every one of those 9 films deserves to be watched.
I just don't like any of De Palma's other films. I put a few different ones there but in the end it just felt silly even listing a movie I don't particularly like.
It's a big one for me. I actually prefer it to all those listed above it except for Scarface. And I'd put Untouchables above it also. Really cool movie though and I'd consider it absolutely essential DePalma. Also even for the lead. He's so great and this is like his one big movie. So really special on a few levels.
Absolutely, it's arguably his best and most complex movie. It belongs in the company of Sunset Boulevard and Mulholland Drive as one of the greatest movies about the nature of Hollywood; if I owned a repertory theatre I would make them a triple feature.
Personal favorite is The Fury. I actually cried the last time I watched it just because it was so kino. But Scarface gets a higher score and maybe Untouchables both of which I'm a very big fan of. Especially considering how much backlash Untouchables gets I'm a huge fan apparently.
Dressed to Kill, Phantom of the Paradise, Body Double, Blow Out, Sisters, Femme Fatale. The studio movies he made of other people's scripts are fun but not quite on the same level as his original ones imo
Blow Out is so good… I’d argue he did a better job capturing characters out of their depth in a political thriller better than anyone else even Hitchwiener
i guess it has to be Scarface for me. Snake Eyes is.... underrated? it's not a great movie but it's maybe the most fun to watch version of Nicholas Cage
just a comment on Carrie, i think it's a little overrated. the last 30min i guess makes up for it though and that shot near the end where Carrie goes upstairs and her mom is kinda behind the door but she kinda looks like a mannequin so you're not sure at first... holy fricking kino. Hereditary and a million other movies stole that gimmick
It’s worth watching for at least three scenes: >Phoenix’s audition Special to Me >carburetors/car bomb split-screen >Paul Williams at the mixing board fixing the Phantom’s voice while he’s playing an Elton John pastiche
Shit’s great
Yeah not saying that Phantom is a bad film by any stretch, I think it's pretty good but has some drawbacks which stops it from entering into the pantheon of De Palma's best films.
Also, to add to that, the Goodbye Eddie opening and the entire sage with Beef, as
Carrie
is that griffin on the left
Are you referring to John Travolta or the Phantom?
1. Scarface

Is Body Double worth a watch?
Definitely. Every one of those 9 films deserves to be watched.

Now I’m interested

No 'Snake Eyes' ? Just learned he was married to Nancy Allen.
I can see why De Palma was with Nancy Allen during her prime. Still would
>3 husbands
>0 kids
What a waste.
Really? Damn what a shame.
I liked femme fatale

>mfw only one mention of Phantom of the Paradise
Too uneven, and the music (apart from the pastiches, which are excellent) is forgettable.

What about Beef?
Beef didn’t deserve it. Every main character fricks up in that movie but him pretty much.

Phantom of the Paradise is my personal favorite but Blow Out is a close second. Can't forget Scarface and Body Double though
All great movies. De Palma was seriously kicking ass back then
Body Double or Blow Out
Phantom of the Paradise
Scarface
Untouchables
hey it's that hot dog stand from the picture of Sigourney Weaver
Oh yea
