If he's still a kitten then he wants to play almost constantly. You should really have at least 2 kittens so they can keep each other occupied. Think about it - kittens are typically born in groups of 4-6, and if you've ever watched them grow up, they do nothing but play and sleep for the first 6 months of their lives or so. It gets less frequent and trails off as they get older. But playing with other cats is important for their development. It lets them exercise and learn how to control their bodies, learn how to fight in a safe way, learn boundaries and social skills with other cats, etc. Not letting a kitten play is really bad for it.
He's still a kitten, but he's about 7 months old now. He was fostered with others until a month ago. I do notice he wants my undivided attention above all else, and games he can play with me. We're very close, but he's my first cat and I'm learning his needs.
