FEMALE LED BLADE RUNNER 2099 details

>Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All At Once, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) is set to lead Prime Video's Blade Runner 2099, which will serve as a sequel to both Ridley Scott's original and Denis Villeneuve's Blade Runner 2049.

>The first plot details for the show have also found their way online (via Daniel Richtman), and the brief synopsis outlines the basic premise of the sci-fi spin-off series.

>As previously rumored, the show will be female-led, with Cora (possibly a former Blade Runner) joining forces with a Replicant named Olwen (Yeoh).

>"In Los Angeles 2099, Cora lived her entire life on the run, a chameleon forced to adopt numerous identities. To secure a stable future for her brother, she assumes one final identity and is forced to partner with Olwen, a Replicant who’s confronting the end of her life. The two are pulled into a widening conspiracy that poses an existential threat to a city that’s fighting to be reborn."

I'm so fricking tired. I could deal with a female lead, that'd be fine but why couldn't she just be white.

Michelle Yeoh is a good actress with decades of work behind her. She's not even American and is above your identity politics.

    Surprised they're doing another.

    Blade Runner 2049 flopped.

Somehow they keep trying when people clearly aren't interested in this franchise.

It is about profits, though. ESG is a way for big firms like blackrock to sucker people and 401ks, etc into investing into shitty companies - driving the price up, then Blackrock sells for a huge profit

Men like it. And taking male leads away from franchises adored by men is what they do in order to demoralize. Which all western media is about.

The majority of dystopian films flop because normies aren't into them. Probably because they can't handle them. Which is ironic because we are pretty much in the world now or we are getting there at an astonishing rate and normies and especially the left side of politics are bringing it in, especially since COVID and their jabs. Pathetic fricks.

Will they ever showcase what the original movies showed, that Los Angeles in 1997 would be overtaken by a massive wave of Chinese immigrants, destroying whatever social fabric was left? No, instead they'll show the "heroes" destroying the social fabric themselves.

No because that was a particularly 80s fear, due to the fast rise of Japan. Everyone thought asian countries would take over. Of course then the Japanese economy went tonshit and never really recovered and people were left with just the asian aesthetic.

I always thought there was a lot of opportunity for stories in the blade runner world outside of the Deckard story. Shame they’ll just go for the trans-metaphor with it though.

Gonna assume this will be even less cyberpunk than 2049, especially because old women are not convincing cyberpunk protagonists in the first place. They're already inherently depressing creatures who are on their way out: there's nothing for society to really do to them that feels like a real loss.

every single long running sci-fi story (fantasy too) ends up with women taking charge and solving everything.
I thought it was a recent thing but after reading a lot of "classic" books from 1950-2000, I realise this is the norm.

I always liked her martial arts films & she deserves recognition for her long career, it's a shame it took slop to get western media to fawn over her. If it actually focused on her as an aging woman and drew parallels to replicant lifespans, purpose, meaning of it all, etc etc it could be good.

    >"In Los Angeles 2099, Cora lived her entire life on the run, a chameleon forced to adopt numerous identities.
In other words a generic female action hero with a generic backstory and generic motivations, the type of cookie cutter character that soulless corporations like Amazon, Disney, and Netflix put into every single movie and TV show they do.
