Yeah I thought Cruz was really well casted and, now that you mention it, yeah she was hotter than Woodley. I think casting some bombshell for the mistress would have been a mistake, but, needed to be a bit hotter than Woodley.
I think the accents help a little bit with setting the scene, I mean if they all spoke in their native accents they'd all be a bit different so it might be incoherent. I see your point, but, I think it just makes the actors blend a bit better.
Woodley was 29 when she filmed this, but her character is 48, and was far more homely than woodley.

He said not being able to make the film in 2016 as originally planned worked to its benefit because similar to HEAT, he came up with a proper ending and then reverse-engineered it into the rest of the script. Ultimately, he doesn't have a screenplay credit on the finished film.
